Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Those of us that bought the kids races during early registration, were we given an option of dates (Fri/Sat)? I can only do Saturday because we won't be arriving until Friday afternoon/evening.

I don't think we had more than one option. I asked something similar earlier because I did it during early as well and went to register a friends daughter today and saw the two options! I had to go back and double check my email confirmation from last week to make sure we were on Saturday. I'm hoping they don't switch anyone around because our friends are not coming in until Friday either!

I missed early registration (had no idea the kids races would go so fast!), but check your confirmation - it will tell you which race you're signed up for Saturday or Friday in the race description. I was such a rush to register my kids for princess last year that I signed one up for Friday and the other for Saturday. Luckily, rD refunded the Friday registration so they could run on the same day.

Thank you for answering. I didn't remember seeing an option of dates to pick from. I just went back and checked my registration and it says April 16, so I'm hoping they don't change it because I cannot make it on April 15.

Signed up for the 1/2 at noon. I haven't done a Disney race in years! Two questions...

1. Are swan-dolphin considered host hotels if they are saying all hotels?

2. What left race do we need to show proof of time? And how king do we have to turn that in? I haven't raced (or run!) in a long time but will be doing some smaller races in a few months probably.

Thank you!

Price seems normal to me. Been consistent with all the 2015-2016 races at DLR. $330 for challenge and $199 for half. Not sure about the other races since I've never signed up for those.

The Florida races have always been cheaper than the the DLR races since DLR has to pay city permits since the runs go through Anaheim and not solely Disney property. This is the most expensive half marathon challenge in FL with the Glass Slipper Challenge being only $305.

I registered early last week and just called RunDisney for room reservations. There are currently no discounted rooms/packages. She said to try back next week. She indicated that she could book and apply the discount later, but I declined. She also confirmed that all hotels are sponsor hotels.

Thanks so much for posting this info-- that really helped me freak out SLIGHTLY LESS during those final minutes before registration! You're awesome.

I don't know the actual answer to this, though my gut tells me they will not offer their own transportation. BUT, you can easily walk over to Yacht/Beach Club or Boardwalk and take their busses. It would just be maybe a 5 min walk through the lobby.

I don't know but if they aren't a host hotel then you can just walk to the yacht or beach clubs and take the bus from there.

I stayed at the Boardwalk (this year, 2015) and the Expo and Race buses stopped at the Dolphin and the Swan, as well as the Yacht/Beach Club (for the Expo, 5K, 10K, Half, and Full... I don't know about kid's races).

Thank you! I'll probably book a room at the swan/dolphin and a room at a regular Disney hotel then cancel when I find out for sure!

I definitely could walk but I figure at 3am it will be nice to have a bus right out front. :)

I'm in for the Dark Side Challenge! I was so nervous because I wasn't at home for registration. Signed up on my phone no problems so a lot of needless worry! So excited for this!

Congrats to everyone who's in. My DH is in for the 5K and 10K, and I am in for the 5K and half. Looking forward to that Kessel medal.

Quick question for the more experienced - I was registering DH through his account and then thought I saw that the name of the registration changed from him to me when I changed the account's billing info for my cc. So in an absolute panic, I registered him again with his cc. But when I look at his Active account, he now seems to have two registrations.

Has anyone ever gotten a refund from active for duplicate regs? Or did I just make a $110 mistake?

I can't answer your question but I can share your frustration. I registered myself and three kids and used my husband's credit card. When it came to billing info I entered his name and the billing address of the card. I was afraid if I used my name (which is not on the actual card) that it wouldn't match up and they wouldn't accept it. I was aggravated when it changed the active .com account name to his instead of mine. Have you checked your emails from Disney to see if they registered each of you? I sure hope you won't get double billed. If so, hopefully they will refund your money!

Maybe the extra cost has to do with the 5:00am start time instead of 5:30 for the half? Who needs that extra half hour of sleep anyway right......oofta.

I am in for the challenge too. I have to say, for me this one was the toughest one to sign up for. Under the AP sign up I was getting to the credit card payment and got an error message that I was no longer connected to the internet.

Today at noon I was on and it took time to get to the Active page. 10 minutes of refreshing and I was able to sign up.

This will give me medals for all of the DW events except Dopey. After Star Wars it is onto good local events until Dopey 2018. @DOOM1001 had a Miami Halloween medal on here that was really nice. Have to do that in 2016. I have heard Ft Lauderdale has a nice medal too.

I think gone are the times of really fast sell outs. This sign up was predictably a fast sellout for the 10k and challenges. But remember the times when the entire race would be sold out already.

I think Rundisney has pretty much reached its peak. I mean if this didn't sellout in record time.. I don't know what will. granted the challenge sold out really fast, but there were times when everything sold out just as fast.

It's a nice comfort to know that it looks like other races you will at least get in for one event.. If not the challenge, at least the half and not be locked out completely as in the past

Ok now that everyone is registered lets get down to details! I am running the 10k on Saturday (usually run it in an hour) so depending on coral and stopping I say I would be finished by 730 at the very latest. My son is doing the Kids Dash at 10am. Based on transportation and what goes on after the race, should I try to squeeze in breakfast in-between or is there any Quick service places near the finish line?

Challenges have gone fast for the Disneyland Star Wars Races for 2016 and in 2015. 2016 Rebel Challenge went really fast (I ended up registering myself through a TA when I couldn't get myself in for it)

We'll keep up for this for at least 5 years - husband wants to be legacy for the challenges on both coasts. At least I get a yearly trip to Disneyland now :)

I am excited for the race on the East Coast as I hope there will be more characters out throughout since they don't have to cram everything into the first 4 miles of the race unlike Disneyland. (I have a report of the initial Disneyland one in my signature - although to warn you - it was not a good first half marathon for me personally mentally so it isn't the most positive posts)

I asked runDisneyhost about resorts and got back:

Thank you for contacting us regarding a runDisney event.

We appreciate your inquiry regarding host hotels for the Star Wars Half Marathon - The Dark Side. All Walt Disney World® Resort hotels will be official host resorts, providing transportation for the race weekend. You may reserve your room at a host hotel by calling 407-939-4786.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green will also provide transportation to all weekend events. Please visit the Plan tab of rundisney.com to see transportation options and schedules.

fyi, this doesn't interest me, but may others: new bags (assuming they are not just the January bags):
