Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

How well can you actually hear the announcements? I'm thinking that with all the women talking and the noise of running, can you hear much through the loudspeakers? I have done several races where the dj is getting everyone amped up and there is a ton of screeching and then the dj usually has the microphone so close to his mouth that everything comes out garbled like a Charley Brown movie.

What??? Women talking??? No, it will be quiet as can be. :rotfl2:

Ugh ... such a #FirstWorldDisneyProblem, y'all. I have two brunch reservations for after the Half and I can't decide which one to keep! Narcoossee's or Cali Grill?!?! It's like the Sophie's Choice of brunch.

No music on the course for me! I usually train with music - either outside or the chrome cast videos for the treadmill. But I run shorter races with my kids, so no music for those. And for longer races, ever since the 2014 PHM, I decided the music interferes with my running zen. So I've been running half marathons without music - whether it's Disney or not - and it's great to just observe things going on during the race. And then I ran the Disney marathon without music and absolutely loved it - even during those stretches where there wasn't much going on.

I have no advice, that is a very tough choice. I didn't know about the brunches, I generally don't pay attention to brunch announcements. My son is allergic to milk and eggs so brunch fare is usually a mess with him. But as a huge Cali Grill fan I can't believe I missed this one. Out of curiosity I just looked, and they both sound fantastic. Whichever you decide I'll be jealous!

Right? I was pretty set on Narcoossee's until I saw the Cali Grill announcement ... and I LOVE Cali Grill. The reviews on Narcoossee's have been pretty positive, so I guess I will just wait until someone tries Cali. Since I'm flying solo this trip, I'm not doing any ADRs - and very little park time at WDW in general (famous last words!), so my husband said I could pick a brunch as a treat. I. LOVE. BRUNCH.

I don't listen to music when I run, but I do listed to audiobooks on my long runs. I am a one earbud girl. I like to hear what is going on around me. I won't listen to a book on the disney runs, but I will still have my earbud in so that I can get pace and time notices from my runkeeper app.

I have been trying to decide what I want to carry on the course with me, and I was wondering, is there any reason I will need to have my id with me? Do you need it to check in to get the GS medal?

Nope - no ID required! I only carry mine with me if I'm not checking a bag and am planning on going somewhere immediately after the race that might require it.

Unless you might get carded buying post race refreshments. Then you'll want ID because that would be sad. My 33 year old sister is a HS teacher and still gets confused for a student, so I'll advise her husband to put it in his wallet so she doesn't need to carry it.

Sadly, I certainly won't need it, that ship has sailed ;)

Alas, this is true for me too. I was in a local shop the other day and the cashier gave me a senior citizen discount....I think she meant it to help me

That's the way I took it anyway ;)

Thank you both. I'm going to be 44 next week, and although I do look young, not so much after getting up at 3am three days in a row and then running a race. Haha!

You guys! I have been stalking this thread like mad over the past week. This is my first runDisney & half marathon, so I am excited & a little apprehensive -- but I know it will be magical. Question for those who have done this before: In the event guide email and other places, they discourage the use of headphones. I want to enjoy the course and the entertainment, but are there lots of lulls with nothing? Should I bring a play list/headphones for the boring bits?

The course warnings I've noticed in the halves I've done are the "warning, speed bumps ahead" ones, and they can TOTALLY be heard with music on. I use YurBuds which cut out a lot of noise, but I can still hear that. And see the flashlights of the volunteers and notice the speedbumps etc.

I carry ID, CC, cash, and insurance card. And inhaler and phone (after doing TOT without the phone and DH and DS not knowing when I started and not being able to contact them post-race) and Shuffle and earbuds. And chapstick.

I think it's Deb&Bill from the DVC boards, her husband injured himself on a wdw rundisney course so badly he got to leave by ambulance. They were VERY glad they had his ID and insurance card, because many people who have gotten ER care know that they will bother you endlessly for your info, even while you're being treated. I choose to not be bothered endlessly by the paperwork-people, so I carry those things with me.

Also, I have a RoadID that I wear that has pertinent info and two emergency contact numbers, between that and my insurance card, I'm pretty set if something were to happen to me at Disney.

On long runs here at home, I will carry cash or a credit card with me occasionally if I plan on grabbing a post-run beer at one of the food trucks along the river or if I'm meeting people after I run. But that's really it.

It's this one: http://rawthreads.com/rapunzel-hoodie/dp/2434

They had a crazy good Black Friday sale in 2014 and I went nuts...finally going through and trying to thin the herd. :sad2:

A Raw Threads resale group on Facebook! :)

Darn!! I don't use my Facebook account. My career has me in public contact in such a way that having a Facebook account is more of an annoyance than it's worth. It's kind of weird when people you've never met say that they tried to look you up on Facebook and wanted to know if they could be your friend, especially when you've only known them about 10 minutes at that point and you're not going to know them in a non-business way. It started happening so often that it was literally getting beginning to creep me out. The sucky part is then I miss out on stuff like this and the Dooney and Bourke group and the Harvey group ....

Totally Cali Grill
Lol

This is me! I went out the other day with one of the partners in my practice in one of the medical assistance all three of us got carded the worst part? I told the server as I was looking for my wallet to get my ID out that I could guarantee her I was older than she was by at least 10 years and she did not believe me. Then she looked at my ID, looked at me, back down at my ID and said damn I thought you were only two or three years older than me and you have 15 years on me.

On the one getting carded was a compliment, but on the other hand realizing you're much closer to 40 than you'd like to admit.....

I might have to open my Facebook account again....I happened to do some digging and find out that there's a Mystery pack well hidden on the raw thread's website. My worry is what if I get an item for a character that I really don't like or a duplicate of what I already have? I'm starting to see where this group on Facebook would be worth it

I totally just booked brunch at Cali Grill after all the talk about it! I was thinking of California Grill for our anniversary dinner that night (or just drinks if we can't get a reservation). But maybe we should try brunch and then head to Disney Springs for drinks that evening?
