Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

@HockeyMomNH i think it looks good but I don't think you need to do back-to-backs every weekend. Maybe once or twice, or every other weekend?

As for 6/13...I'm going up to 5/10 (would have liked to do 5/12 but I've been sick so that's it going to happen). If you think it'll help you mentally, go for it, but most training plan stop out in the 10-12 range. :)

So what is everyone's opinion? Hydration belt or hand held water bottle. I haven't worn a hydration belt but carried a hand held during my first half. Thoughts?

I am assuming bathrobes as pre-race warm ups aren't going to work anymore?
Everyone is "layered" early on. Trash bags are those layers?

Does this part worry anyone else??? How to you screen 24K runners at 4AM effectively? How early will we need to be on the busses for that??
Kinda glad Marathon and SW are before PHM. Hopefully they can get the kinks worked out.
  • All runners, Guests, costumes, and bags are subject to screening prior to entering the event staging areas

Keah…I am also going to defer the 10K. I diagnosed with cancer on Nov. 13, and I am scheduled to have chemo earlier that week, and there is just no way that my body will be able to race by the weekend, let alone train for the race. It is my hope and prayer that I will be recovered enough to race in 2017.

Do you know when deferrals open up? I emailed runDisney back in November and they told me it would be today (Jan. 5) but didn't give me a time.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I will be praying for you. In case you didn't know yet, the deferral link is up. It's on the registration tab of the runDisney page for PHM weekend.

Kind of bummed with the GSC medal . Gold glass slipper. When I saw last year's at Think I was so excited, really don't care for the gold on this one. The rest at nice .
Hope it looks better in real.

I understand. They just did the silver for Frozen, but I wish they were always silver! Those medals are my favorites.

I'm not sure. I don't like carrying anything, so I used a belt. I have yet to find one that doesn't slide all over the place on me. I think for my next half, I'll use a Camelbak.

Just finished 4.2 in 45 mins. Not bad 10:43 pace. Didn't want to push too hard. Trying to learn my bodies clues a little better but also needed to focus more on my breathing today. I didn't this weekend on my runs and paid for it dearly. I worried too much about time and ended up with a side stitch that last for two days. It is finally gone so I decided to make sure to take it easy today.

Is your stomach sensitive enough (like mine) tat you can't risk the on course water? I'm always VERY envious of those who don't have to bring their own, and I long to be one.

But if you really need to carry your own, how did you do with the handheld for that Half? If it was OK, and if it was enough for you, go for it.

I personally don't like the belts. I've tried a couple and they just don't sit right, I hit the bottles with my hands, etc. And for a long time my shoulder was so bad (never got it diagnosed but found a massage therapist that seems to have fixed the problem) that I could not rely on being able to use it to get a bottle out with it.

I did, however, have a Nathan water backpack that I liked, though it makes a lot of noise. The one I got has an issue with the bladder coming off the little hang bar, and I never MacGyver'd it to stay on the bar. :)

I have a Nathan hand held water bottle. I have t had stomach issues in the past but isn't to say that I won't this time or any time in the future. I just want to be prepared and ready but also as free as possible to enjoy this time and experience. For fuel I am going to have to carry my beans (not because of stomach issues but because I am picky and don't like a lot of things) so I am trying to decide between pending the money on a hydration belt or just getting a flip belt.

I, too, am not a fan of hydration belts. They just slosh around too much, and I often find that I don't need that much water with me anyway, especially in the cooler months when I'm training for the bulk of my races since I don't sweat as much. For my long runs (over 60 minutes), I'll bring my 10oz Nathan handheld water bottle with a 50/50 mix of water & gatorade. This also saves me from having to bring along any chews/Sport Beans, since I'm getting some sugar & electrolytes from the gatorade. This is what mine looks like (not my pic):

I've never had a problem with the on-course water & Powerade, though. While not my favorite, I would rather drink what they give me than have to worry about carrying a water bottle with me throughout the course.

Now that the medals have been released, I am so stoked for race weekend! I don't even care what the shirts look like this year (last year I remember I mentioned that I didn't want orange or pink shirts, and lo and behold, we got pink lol) since I'll be getting once of each anyway. Even the bright colored shirts aren't so bad, since I am able to use them during the 200-mile relay race I do in the Spring.

Did my first run since my Half on 12/12 last night on the treadmill. Trying to get back into training! I took it super easy and did 1.76 miles in the 30 minutes. I really hate to keep adjusting the treadmill's speed for my run/walk intervals and almost just tried running the whole thing. But then my brain stepped in and said "are you stupid? you are finally not feeling pain, don't push it!" lol. I actually listened to my brain and common sense for once and my ankle/tendon feels fine today. :)

I would guess that there will be no pink shirts. I think they'll be in the same color scheme as the ribbons.

I usually just carry a water bottle with me. I've tried on hydration belts before, and my friend has the water backpack, but I don't like it. I'm so used to carrying the water bottle now, it doesn't bother me anymore. I like having the water with me, its almost like a security blanket, if that makes sense. I like having it when I'm thirsty!

I also know you aren't supposed to do things during the race that you don't do during training, but I'll drink gatorade at the stops later in the race when they have it out. I think its just nice to have something cold and sweet!

So is it wrong that I like the 10k medal more than the half? Also, I hope the race shirts they give out for the half aren't gold, that is ugly. I'm not much of a pink person so getting that half shirt last year was blah. I'd do the ariel green or something, that could be nice!

On HANDHELD water bottle....good choice. I have carried on WDW courses and you can refill with water at stops, very easy.

On SCREENING bags..that has been going on for a couple of years now. just bring as little as possible and keep the line moving!

Gotta run...haha...

Oh, I know; I don't expect them to repeat. They've never repeated before, so it wouldn't make sense to do it now. I was just using that as an example of a time where I said what I didn't want, and they did it anyway, lol.

Hi, and sorry...I'm new to this. What are Dooney's?
Dooney & Bourke purse designs that are race-specific, so you can't get them in the parks or disneystore.com.

I, too, like the 10K medal's design the best, so don't feel bad. I'd be satisified with shirts in the green of the 10K ribbon & GSC medal or the purple of the GSC ribbon, but I have a feeling one of the shirts will be yellow, possibly the 10K if the shirt designs are anything like they were last year where they matched the colors with the ribbons on the medals. i.e. the 10K's ribbon was pink like the PHM shirt, the PHM shirt was pink like the 10K ribbon. But, there I go speculating again! LOL

If the shirts are gold, I will scream! At least I only wear the medal one day, but I would love to be able to wear the shirt all the time and I would NEVER wear that gross yellow/gold.

I have that water bottle. It annoys me. Drinking from it is a pain because sometimes nothing comes out and sometimes it squirts out so hard that I get it all over me.

I also do not want a gold shirt. I have several and I hate them and never wear them. If I'm investing all this time and money, I at least want to be able to show off my shirt later on.
