Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Please, please tell me they don't correspond exactly to the ribbons... I would never ever wear a yellow shirt! :crazy2:

No. At least the last two years. Here are the last two years shirts and medals, 2014 on the left, 2015 on the right:

There doesn't seem to be a solid formula for predicting the shirts from the ribbons, but they do seem to all follow a general theme. None match exactly, but last year the shirts and medals for the 10k ad half were reversed. I agree, a yellow shirt would not be a choice I'd love.

I also do not want a gold shirt. I have several and I hate them and never wear them. If I'm investing all this time and money, I at least want to be able to show off my shirt later on.

Exactly! My husband doesn't understand why it bothers me so much but I can't help but be a little disappointed.

I have the Nathan handheld water bottle, because I also dislike wearing anything around my waist. I ran a couple halfs and 10Ks with it, and then I decided to just use what they have on the course. Now, I don't run with anything - no water bottle, no fuel, no music, no phone. The Nathan is the best I've found, but it still annoys me to have it on my hand.

The medals . . . I really do love the PHM medal. I typically prefer silver, but this is pretty. The 10K medal is nice, too. Not a fan of all that green and gold in the GSC medal. I really loved the PHM shirts (except GSC) and medals from last year. Unfortunately, last year I skipped the PHM and ran the full in January instead. (Although the 2015 marathon medal is my favorite, so I'm glad I didn't miss it!)

So what is everyone's opinion? Hydration belt or hand held water bottle. I haven't worn a hydration belt but carried a hand held during my first half. Thoughts?

I actually don't like handheld water bottles, and my physical therapist is not a fan of me using them, because I so favor one side of my body running, and I can't seem to not hold the bottle in that hand too. I Love my nathan hydration belt though. It took a bit of work to find one I like. I went to a local running store, and they let me run around in the parking lot wearing various models to see what I liked. The one I got is very adjustable. I wear it low on my waist, and it stays totally put. I don't even know it is there. Mine came with 2 bottles, and I added a third. Depending on how hot it is, and how far I am running, I may or may not use all three. I usually use a mix of water and gatorade. At the 2014 PHM it was hot an humid, and I went through all three. I was able to pull a bottle out and refill at water stations not problem. I also got little attachments so my bib just attaches easily to the belt. No safety pines required:)

I have several friends who have hydration belts, everyone like theirs, almost no one has the same one;) Moral of the story is it is very individual. If you are considering one, I highly suggest going somewhere that you can try a bunch on take a quick jog around in them to see what you do and don't like.

I have a Nathan belt. Took me a long time to find one I liked and I have owned many. Hated having something around my waist , but at my running store they pulled one, a Nathan one bottle . The bottle is on an angle on your back our store gave it to me to try it works for me ! I was amazed went back and paid for it love it. Never thought I would ever say those words! This belt sits perfect for me it doesn't move stays in place, comfortable forget about it even being there. It has a huge zip pocket can carry all my goodies Honey Stinger, E-Load, phone, etc. Best part it fits my Stackbucks cup I take it on short runs nice treat after. The reward Coffee!

Such freedom! Even if I did that I would still carry my ID and insurance card with me. :) (never thought of insurance card until I was reading of a dis'er's hubby injuring himself badly enough during a rundisney event that he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. with my experience, even though hospitals are supposed to treat you and not worry about insurance cards and whatnot until later, their idea of "later" and mine are VASTLY different...if the patient is unconscious, they are bugging the family every 5 minutes, and if the patient is conscious they are bugging the patient...so I'd rather have it all with me)

Oh that must look fun! :)

So I bought my fabric today!! I got a purple polka dot cotton and then black shimmery fabric for Ursula's legs. I can't sow so I'm thinking about attempting this: http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-the-circle-skirt.html Once I have the cotton cut out, I'll just pin it to my SPI-belt. People with sowing skills, you think this could work?!

Not sure about the Spibelt. You are thinking of just pinning...not sewing? If you decide to go with the the elastic per instructions, it can be a bit more difficult than shown. You will have to pull the elastic as you attach it to the material. Do you have a sewing machine or friend with one? Have you looked at the no sew skirt? You may be able to still use the purple fabric, but it would look different than the pix in the instructions that you show.

My husband does not approve of this freedom - he's with you and is always bugging me to carry more. :)

We won't know for sure until the expo (unless someone sneaks a picture beforehand), but experience has taught me that I don't always like the shirt colors. Since I now own TWO grey shirts from them....

So is it wrong that I like the 10k medal more than the half? Also, I hope the race shirts they give out for the half aren't gold, that is ugly. I'm not much of a pink person so getting that half shirt last year was blah. I'd do the ariel green or something, that could be nice!

Since I think the half medal is ugly, I don't think you're the only one. lol

I'm hoping for shirts that are either green or blue, and that have a smallish logo. So many of the non-Disney races I've do had great shirts in the past, and now seem to plaster on a huge logo that nearly covers the entire shirt. Simple, centered and small in proportion to the shirt would be great.

I am assuming bathrobes as pre-race warm ups aren't going to work anymore?
Everyone is "layered" early on. Trash bags are those layers?

Does this part worry anyone else??? How to you screen 24K runners at 4AM effectively? How early will we need to be on the busses for that??
Kinda glad Marathon and SW are before PHM. Hopefully they can get the kinks worked out.
  • All runners, Guests, costumes, and bags are subject to screening prior to entering the event staging areas
"subject to screening" I think are the key words here. Does that mean going through a bag search like at the theme parks?

They have really been stressing to the volunteers that pictures of the race shirts should not be posted before the expo. No one knew what the race shirts for WDW Marathon weekend looked like until this morning (the day the expo opened).

They already do bag check at races similar to what the parks have. I assumed that and possibly metal detectors...curious to hear from those that are there for the races now.

Today I called Shades of Green to confirm my reservation and I asked the woman to double check that the Run Disney buses would be going there on the mornings of the races and she told me that SoG is never on the route for anything other than marathon weekend. Um, that is totally different than what management told me back in July! Then she told me I should call back after this weekend because everyone was too busy and too focused on getting through marathon. I'm just going to be over here banging my head on a wall.

The half medals are a huge disappointment for me! I was hoping for something that at least hinted at the little mermaid (last years medal had snowflake ribbons at least) A green stone?? Really??? So jealous of the 10k medal, not even going to lie.

I am so excited over the medals!! When it comes to jewelry, I prefer silver but when it's on a medal, the competitor in me will always go for gold :-). I don't think the half marathon shirt will be yellow, if it were then the ribbon would blend in completely and they usually seem to like to make them stand out looking at the past ones. After spending the 2015 Tinkerbell half in urgent care I will be happy to actually finish this race.

Love the green ribbon on the 10k medal! Would be really happy if the shirts for the half were that colour. I think the medal for the half will look better in person. So excited!!

Ok. For those of you who have run the PHM before, how far in advance did they release bib numbers and corrals? I know this year has been different with things like the medals and such but I know the WDW marathon and Star Wars run coming up had their bibs and waiver out significantly earlier than the two weeks it specified on the site.

Just hope the GSC Medal looks better in person. But what were they thinking a the glass slipper is clear , so how did they come up with a gold slipper.
