Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Thanks! Sent a message in to ask if they can confirm they have it...and resent my proof of time as well.

I'm a bit behind in my planning, haven't figured out where I'll be staying yet....Don't want multi-hotel split stay, but that looks like what I'll be doing!
Just booked my flt last week, so that's a big step!

I'm in week 3 of Hal Higdon's HM training program (I modified it to add 2 weeks - 1 for Christmas, 1 in case I get sick/injured, so it's actually 14 weeks vs 12 weeks), and I have finally reached that 'in training' feeling. Hungry all the time, drinking lots more water (I drank a lot before, but this is noticeable), and needing a lot more sleep. I also finally had to bust out the knit hat, gloves and puffer vest this morning since it was in the 30s when I left for my morning run. I wound up taking my gloves off, but I'm glad I had the other stuff. I saw another runner in just a cotton shirt and basketball shorts! He must have been going out for a short run or something, nutso. I'm such a weenie when it's cold out!

I'm with you! A few weeks ago I was out with fleece tights, a tank under a coldgear shirt, a fleece headband and gloves. I was comfortable most of the run, took the gloves off at some point. On the way home, I see a girl in short shorts and and sports bra. She must be from Alaska was all I could think!

My training has hit a snag. I am having a lot of foot and ankle pain, both sides. About to head out for my first run since Friday. That day I ran on the treadmill at PT, trying to replicate the foot and ankle pain. 3 minutes in I had right calf pain, and the PT said I was having acute compartment syndrome. Essentially too much blood to a muscle too fast, it was swollen and looked a bit bruised. We'll see what happens. He thinks the separate foot and ankle pain is overworked peroneal tendons. Going to have to go slow to calm that down.

I have been having so much trouble with my peroneal tendons in my right ankle! I bought this http://www.amazon.com/ASO-Ankle-Sta...id=1449587246&sr=1-1&keywords=aso+ankle+brace (sorry, I don't know how to not make the whole link show up!) and it really helps stabilize my ankle when I run. It takes getting used to but I am so happy that I can actually run again, it's worth it. But I took like 3 weeks off from running as I was in so much pain when I first hurt it. You might ask your PT about it. I am planning on running a half marathon on Saturday wearing it and will report back how THAT goes, lol. I also think wearing compression socks helps with the pain. I have a compression ankle sleeve that I wear under the brace. Hope your pain goes away soon! I know how frustrating it is!

I was looking over the Marathon weekend event guide released today. I noticed that there is no monorail for the 5k or 10k. So then I went to the PHM page on runDisney and sure enough it says the monorail is only running for the half that weekend. The other days there is bus transportation. Having used the monorail in 2014 for the three races I was looking forward to it this year for the 10k and half. Staying at BW the night before the 5k. I am a little annoyed, but it is my own fault in part. Back when we made our plans, it did say that there would be no monorail. But I went ahead and changed my DVC reservation to BLT based on my experience of using it in 2014 and knowing the websites for all things Disney often have incorrect or incomplete information. Also, I specifically checked, and back then the other races all listed the monorail as running on all race days. So, I am guessing there will be no monorail except the half, which is disappointing, but not the end of the world. I will likely drive instead, which I think is easy as well, everyday but the half, for which the monorail is running.

I've been following and intending to post, so some of these comments go back a bit!

Treadmills. Treadmill runners, stick with it! At the end of my full marathon training last year, it was all treadmill. It was cold, and I was really concerned about falling on the ice/snow. So that was multiple 10-mile runs, a couple 15-milers, a 20-miler and a 21-miler . . . on the treadmill. Yeah, it was nuts and it was extremely hard to get back on that treadmill after the marathon was over. I loved the treadmill, and I hated the treadmill. But I can tell you that the treadmill time was 100% worth it. The full marathon is my favorite run ever and it would not have been possible wit forhout my treadmill. I run races without music now, but absolutely need something on the treadmill, so youtube videos of the marathon, 1/2 marathon and PHM were really helpful during that time. Lee Hoedl has a series of "all along the course" videos that I LOVE!!! So if you are able to chromecast to your TV while running, I highly recommend it! Please, everyone, share your other ideas!

Sometimes it's either the treadmill or nothing, so you just have to do what you have to do! I personally like things where someone is talking to me when I'm on the treadmill, like podcasts or audiobooks. I use music when I am running outside, and sometimes in races, but not Disney. There's so much going on, I've never needed it for those.

We were at BWI for PHM in 2014 and Poly for marathon weekend in 2015. So we've had experience with both bus and monorail to the races. On one hand, I love the monorail - seems quick and no traffic. On the other hand, I like the bus - it's warm and it drops off/picks up closer to the race area. But I would have expected monorail for the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for the update! Also, I don't know if I can read the event guide . . . I miss the marathon.

Your news made me think of my issue is with the kids' races. We registered our youngest for the 1-mile based on the PHM weekend schedules/locations for the past two years - start at around 9am, run a mile that includes time in Epcot, start and finish in Epcot parking lot. Sounds great! But now the kids' races are now at WWOS . . . at 11am. Bad timing. Yuck on the transportation - would have otherwise just taken monorail to Epcot and stayed for the day after the race and now we will go back to Poly after 10K, get on a bus to WWOS and then another bus either to Epcot (if there is one) or to an Epcot resort. And finally, he doesn't get to run through Epcot. He runs local 5Ks and has done two Disney kids' races and two Disney 5Ks already - all either in or around Epcot or Downtown Disney at DL, so a mile on a track is not all that exciting. If I could go back and change it, we'd sign up for the 5K instead, but of course that's no longer an option.

I'm on weekn#2 of Hal Higdon as well. The rain is horrible here , we several storms coming off the Pacific. I'm getting soaked wind, rain hope it stops soon. I guess this is pay back for having such a dry summer. Did the Santa Shuffle 5 km on the weekend waves crashing on the sea wall not only wet from the rain but the waves too! I have a terrible cold just what I needed! Oh well getting my training done. Hope they post those medals soon I did motivation! Great to read everyone's posts.

I'm going to have to do more treadmill running now that it is getting colder. I don't mind being out in the cold, but my usual trail is pretty deserted now and I don't like being out there alone. There have been some crazy people hanging out down there.

I am interested in the New Balance shoes. Anyone have any idea when we'll know what they look like? I thought I stumbled on something about being able to get a time slot to buy them. Am I recalling correct? If so where did I see it?
Thanks!:jumping2:

Lately they have been releasing the New Balance shoe designs about a week before the race weekend starts (sometimes the week OF the races). They have been using a virtual queue. You can sign up at NBVirtualQueue.com the week of the races.

Once they announce the models they will be selling I would highly recommend trying them on locally if you can before purchasing at Disney, to make sure that they work for your feet. :)

I see on the RD site where it says it's not at Epcot.

FWIW, assuming they do the same course as they've done the last two January weekend Miles, it starts in one spot and ends at the other. It's not just a mile around a track. When you walk (if you've walked) allll the way behind the buildings, looking at the January map from 2014, it starts at "Field 17", which has bleachers. The kids (and parents who want to run with kids) line up between the building area and the bleachers and that's the start. They go along the side/back of that area, turn right, and the kids are kind of invisible for a little bit. You have just enough time to walk briskly over to the NB track to spot your kid, and they come around and do almost a full lap around and then finish.

DS has liked it both times.

So I need to remember that if I haven't seen any new notifications pop up on this thread for over a week to just go to it anyway. It was fun to catch up on so many posts!

I dreaded my 9 mile run so much last Saturday, but it turned out fine! It was my first time busting out the sport beans mid run (for this training cycle) and that helped. It seems weird to me to bring water with me when it is below freezing outside, so I ran by a convenience store and bought a small water to drink with my beans. I think I'm just going to have wear my water backpack in the future though.

In costumes news, I ordered my very first sparkle skirt! It is a sparkle skirt lite, so I will have to figure out what to wear underneath. Has anyone used those skirts before? What have you worn under?

Good luck on your long runs this weekend everyone! I have a speed workout (8x800) scheduled for tomorrow. :)

I'm seriously considering deferring the 10K and doing the 5K only. I'm still working through this injury, and it's really going to be a whole lot of pressure for me to be up to 6 miles by then.

Okay guys.... I need you to talk me down, lol! I am so NERVOUS for my half tomorrow! It will be my first actual half, since the fiasco that was W&D, and my stomach is already in knots. And of course today is our Christmas Open House at work, so lots of yummy stuff that I can't (shouldn't anyway, lol) eat.

My DH is picking me up from work at 4:15 and we are leaving from here. The race is 1 1/2 hours away and the packet pickup ends at 7:00. Since I have no idea where I am going (never been to that town) we will probably be cutting it close. Then, I have no idea what to do for dinner. We are spending the night in a hotel there, so that means eating out. The only restaurant that isn't a fast food chain that I can see listed is Red Lobster. I haven't eaten at one of those in 15+ years so I have no idea how their food would affect my stomach. May end up at Subway.

Hopefully my ankle/tendon will hold up thru the whole race. I have had zero pain for the last couple of days, so that is reassuring. I haven't done a long run since 11/14 and that was just 9 miles. Everyone please give me good thoughts and prayers tomorrow morning!

Just realized it is single digits - 9 days - until online check-in and FP reservations! Big day and glad it's landing on the weekend. I think we have our FP plans in order. My BIL just booked his for his two days in WDW before his Disney cruise and had no problems at all. I know some folks don't like having to do this but I love the reservations and deadlines. Keeps me excited!
