Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I know the feeling. Was along the same lines after W&D. Everything was just busy and didn't continue to train for the full like i should have which is in 5 weeks.

And thank you so much again!!!
Anytime! Five weeks until the full? I would be going crazy. It'll probably be another 3 to 4 days before I finally wrap my mind around the fact that I need to get back up off my butt and start running again.

Thanks! The one I have from running skirts.com does not and I ended up carrying my phone because it not only made the skirt fall down but then it started falling out. Not to mention their pockets are Velcro and it catches on my shirts.

I have become a little bit on the elitist side when it comes to running skirts LOL this company fits me best and works the best. I won't wear anything else even if it's just a training run. The only thing that comes to mind that comes close, but not quite, are the running capris from Athleta. They make about seven different kinds of athletic capris when it comes to running, probably about 20 or so if you include general loungewear yoga etc., but there is a certain kind that has pockets in the Capri made for running.

The capris themselves are very wonderful but if you are built very curvy, i.e. anywhere close to an hour glass figure such as myself, you will find that the waist does not stay up if you size for hips. If you size down for your waist they feel stretched too thin. I will say that 99% of the colors- even black- never stretches so that you see white which happens with a lot of other companies' Lycra based pants; but the feeling just isn't comfortable, you know? I found that I had to cinch the waist on them very very very tightly to keep them from falling as I ran.

Which means that when it comes to a long run or race I will run and nothing but sparkleskirts.

I'm also going to go out on a limb here and say that I have heard that the skirts from running skirts.com also are cut very thin or rather slim. Which is fine if you are built that way. While not fat (I mean I could lose a few esp this time of year, but I'd say I'm not thin and not fat) I am very curvy and muscular in the legs. I could never find their skirts comfortable- they were either too small or too big and the pockets didn't accommodate the phone I had at the time a GS4 in an otterbox.

I happen to love my skirt from runningskirts.com ... but I find that the pockets are really only good for holding dirty tissues. Or maybe a pack of Sport Beans. My point-and-shoot camera does fit in there, but just barely, so I don't like to put it in there. My phone sticks out so much that I wouldn't feel comfortable walking with it in there, forget running.
It's unfortunate because I like their skirts, but the pockets just aren't very helpful.

. Why do they have pre order for some events but not other? I had intended on pre ordering as soon it was announced. Did they have bags through the first day of the expo? That was another reason I scheduled to come in early.
I have no idea. Princess was the only race last year without a pre-order, which was insanely stupid of them. I think the bags sold out in hours because the expo is open to everyone, not just runners. I'm hoping they'll learn from their mistake and have pre-orders available this year.

I just need to get this off of my chest, so you can ignore it if you want to! Thanksgiving morning, I woke up with the intent to run... and then got sucked into the kitchen and never made it outside. I was to do 4 miles that Saturday, but went to a local theme park with a friend in the afternoon after pushing aside my morning run in favor of sleep so I had energy for the drive home ( it's their first year doing a Holiday thing in the park, and we were excited! ). All this past week, I've been staying late at work as I'm training to take catering orders and what better way to LEARN than to DO? which meant I was there from 5:30am to 6pm basically all week minus Tuesday where I was able to leave at 5:30pm. I normally don't pull 12+ hour shifts, so I was exhausted. I missed my run on Tuesday because it's dark at around 4:30pm and my neighborhood is unsafe ( and scary ) at night. Thursday I planned to go to the gym, but I was so tired that I ignored my pack gym bag and went home to go to bed instead. Missing these runs is my fault and I know it. I WANT to run. Three times this week, I had breakdowns when I got either in my car or home, because I knew I was falling behind and I'm exhausted. The holiday season is our busiest time at work, and it's super stressful for someone like me - I'm being tossed into it, while just learning, and it's making me crazy. I didn't see the light of day until yesterday morning... since Sunday! I'm worrying that it's going to be like this through to Christmas ( but I'm planning on making arrangements with my boss for Tuesday and Thursday so I CAN get my run in ).

Today, I got back out there, knocking out my 4mi training run that I should have completed LAST weekend, instead of the 8 scheduled for todays date because I haven't been running and I didn't want to overdo it after a break of over a week. I did my magic mile ( 10:14! ) and the 3 additional miles. This is where I'm asking for help / opinions : Should I keep going, ignoring the date and just keep training according to the plan as a week behind? Or should I skip the week I missed and be accurate by the calendar date ( thus skipping the 8-miler )? Or is it really just my call? I'm a fairly new runner and haven't ever done an 8 mile run before, I've only gotten up to 7 previously in training for a 10k. Any input is appreciated!

WOW, that was longer than I wanted it to be.

@jwjulie...my thoughts and I am no pro, just a runner/walker.
Stick to the program the best you can. Long runs are important..for me..and missing a mid week run every now again will not hurt.
This is the reason I liked the first couple of years, they used to run this event the first weekend in March and even if one fell behind schedule (easy to do this time of year) then there was still a good amount of time to train and also lose those few pounds that seem to creep on this time of year.

I'm kind of snobby when it comes to my workout wear. I love my stuff from athleta. Their all in ones are perfect for me. Tight enough to hold everything in with a skirt to hide the fact that I'm holding everything in. The only thing I don't like is that they only come in black usually and they are ridiculously expensive.

I'm in no way a pro at any sort of athletics but I say cut yourself some slack. Sometimes life just happens. Going out when you exhausted or not physically ready or increasing your distance too fast will just set you up for injury and push your training back further.

@jwjulie I wouldn't try to make up the missed runs. Just pick it up as scheduled starting tomorrow. And give yourself a break! You're doing the best you can. :)

Thank you, everyone! I guess I'm just being super hard on myself since this is my first half ( and I was talked into the challenge! ) and I'm just stressing that if I don't do all or most of the runs, that I won't be able to finish. I think I'm going to pick it up with this week's schedule and figure it out.

Well I didn't do the Speedy Santa 5k but I did run 3.1 miles yesterday. On my injured/recovering ankle I wore a compression sock, my compression ankle brace, a darn tough sock and my new ASO lace up brace. I could barely tie my shoe lol! But I ran with no pain! By the end of the run my ankle/tendon was sore but not the limping, crippling pain from my last run where I hurt it. I was very happy! Then I went home and took off all those layers and it was swollen. :( I took a shower and it started hurting while standing on it and I wanted to cry because I knew I wouldn't be able to run my half next weekend. :(

After showering I took some Advil and iced and elevated the ankle for about 15 minutes. Imagine my surprise when an hour later I had zero pain and the swelling was gone! We walked our dogs in our "back fifty" and I was totally fine. The last few weeks I haven't been able to go out there. The rest of the night and all day today I have had NO pain! I am walking completely normal! I am so happy! It's like the run actually helped it lol!

So the half is still on next week for me! And in a total change of weather it is supposed to be 72 next weekend. The morning of the run will be low to mid 60's. So everything I had planned to wear is out (compression pants and wine & dine purple hoodie). But.... my Sparkle Skirt Christmas present is supposed to be here Tuesday and I have permission from DH to wear it before he wraps it for me lol. :) I will probably do my Thursday training run in it to make sure it is comfortable on me. I am so happy and excited! :)

Re Proof of Time Submission: Should it show up when I check my registration on Active.com?

The proof of time submission waiver shows up but not my submitted time.
I know that I registered in July for the GSC, and then would have submitted my proof of time after that, (in August or September), but concerned as my time doesn't show up.

Does it show up when any of you check your reg? Am I worried for nothing?
I'm only too well aware of what happens when you don't send in a proof of time! (For the Dopey, several faster-than-me friends did not, and they all ended in the last corral.

I'm with you! I've done two races now in a SparkleSkirt - but I'm still not a fan of the shorts (I actually alter them a bit myself - so, I won't be able to resell them, but whatever), but I have yet to find anything with the pocket capacity and I don't have the equipment or experience to sew pockets that will stay on to that kind of material (trust me! I've tried!).

For capris and shorts, I tend to go with the thinking that they're all disposable. If I can get four good runs out of a pair of $10 capris from Danskin at WalMart, I'm happy. My husband bought me a pair at lululemon (um, they were like $80!!! on sale!) that lasted equally as long, so do the math on that.

I also don't do patterns - it's black or gunmetal/gray for me. No patterns, no bright colored waistband or anything. Basically, I'm a total Basic B.

@WalkingintheFog I went to the runDisney page and looked for link to submit time, but it is gone. There is an email address to Trackshack and you could try to contact them. I didn't look on active.com. But when I used the link to submit time..before the cut off..once I input all my info in, it came back with an estimated finish time.

Did you happen to print the screen cap of proof of submission of your proof of time? I always do for exactly this reason. Although they say they don't make adjustments at wine and dine apparently people were able to get this done. I myself did not witness anyone with the sticker that allowed them to change corrals, but several on the wine and dine thread said that they had. I would say that if you submitted it, and have proof that you submitted it, then you should be able to get your corral adjusted at runner relations. I don't know that once the deadline passes we have access to the link anymore. I will dig through my emails and see if I can find it and if it still works. I believe when you first search for yourself but if you have submitted a time the link tells you what you're currently estimated finish pace is once you click on it but you're still allowed to change your proof of time. Now that that is past, I don't even know if we can get to that part.

It doesn't show up for mine either, and I definitely submitted it (and checked it multiple times). I think that functionality wasn't available yet when we signed up, but has since become available for future races (i.e. Tink weekend).

There was talk of people's submissions getting modified without their knowledge (as in - someone who knew they name and birth date could easily pull up a proof of time and edit it, so someone that should be in A was in the last corral). That's why you see the recommendation to print the submission screen out, in case your time needs to be corrected at the expo. And I believe this is why newer races have Proof of Time Submission through Active.com - because you need a log-in and a password to make any changes.

I'm no expert on this.

But what training plan are you following for the half? You have a plan that had you do 4 last weekend and 8 this weekend?

I peeked at the Galloway Beginner's 22 week program and it said last weekend was 6.5 and this weekend was 3, then NEXT weekend is 8 plus the MM. The 22 week plan where you've run a Half before is different than that, but still doesn't go 4 to 8 inside a week. So I'm a bit worried about your plan and how it's taking you up so high so fast?

I've been following and intending to post, so some of these comments go back a bit!

Outfits. Ariel, love the Daisy outfit! I'm with you on the "outfit" vs "costume." If I remember correctly, your outfit for the marathon this year was super close to my Minnie outfit. For the upcoming PHM, I'm "Ariel inspired" because I'm running with my oldest son, who will be in a red shirt with a Sebastian hat. So I'll wear a purple tank, green sparkly soul headband, green sequin skirt (thanks to iglow on etsy!) For the 10K, we have the Haunted Mansion costume shirts from MK (and my black sparkly soul headband.) And for the kids' 1-miler with our youngest (parents can run along) I'll recycle my Belle-inspired yellow skirt, then add a rawthreads "Snow" shirt and sparkly soul red headband.

Treadmills. Treadmill runners, stick with it! At the end of my full marathon training last year, it was all treadmill. It was cold, and I was really concerned about falling on the ice/snow. So that was multiple 10-mile runs, a couple 15-milers, a 20-miler and a 21-miler . . . on the treadmill. Yeah, it was nuts and it was extremely hard to get back on that treadmill after the marathon was over. I loved the treadmill, and I hated the treadmill. But I can tell you that the treadmill time was 100% worth it. The full marathon is my favorite run ever and it would not have been possible without my treadmill. I run races without music now, but absolutely need something on the treadmill, so youtube videos of the marathon, 1/2 marathon and PHM were really helpful during that time. Lee Hoedl has a series of "all along the course" videos that I LOVE!!! So if you are able to chromecast to your TV while running, I highly recommend it! Please, everyone, share your other ideas!

Training. This year, I've run a marathon, three half marathons, a 10K, a bunch of 5Ks and did a sprint distance triathlon. So I'm feeling pretty much done with training right now. My half marathon PR is 1:52 but I'm running with my oldest son, who has an estimated finish time of 2:17. So this is not a race to PR - it's a race to enjoy! I decided my training consists of running regularly at a slower pace than usual so that I'm not the annoying running partner who ruins the fun! And it's Disney, so it should be fun! Anyway, that's the extent of my training plan.

Agree with the advice to just move on! Also, this is for fun, so hopefully the stress decreases a little!
