Official 2016 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread

JULY. I can't wait that long.

I just really want to know if the Half is going back to the Classic "D" medal. BECAUSE. WANT. MUST. HAVE.
I really like the "D" I wasn't a fan of the diamond. The medal part just didn't look proportional to the ribbon. I am hoping the 10k is a Genie lamp!

100 PERCENT THIS. I think that's the reason I like the DLH so much - the 5 and 10K medals can totally change from year-to-year, just like the themes. I loved the 10K medal from last year, so I'm very optimistic it will be something cool like a genie lamp or a magic carpet with lots of jewels. ;)

The diamond medal has grown on me - I certainly like it more than the Wine & Dine one from last year. And it's definitely the heaviest RD Medal I've earned!

July!? Come on - we want to see them now! :P

It looks like RNR Seattle will have runDisney as an exhibitor at the expo. I'm curious if the booth staff will have more information. I'll see what I can find out - other than them pressuring me to sign up for a race I'm already doing for $25 off.

Late to the party here! Have they come out with the theme for the 10k?
Hoping from the D medal for the half too!

yes! it is Aladdin and Genie, here is what the rundisney website says:

Disneyland® 10K presented by Cigna®
Saturday, September 3, 2016

Start time: 5:30 AM

Start/Finish: Disneyland® Resort

Join Aladdin and his best buddy Genie for a magical run!

You won't need a magic lamp to unleash all the fun and excitement of this year's Disneyland® 10K! That's because your hosts for the race are one of Disney's most Famous Duos-Aladdin and his sidekick, the Genie. Just like Aladdin ran through the streets of Agrabah, you'll be running along the streets of Anaheim, passing through the Grand Plaza of the Anaheim Convention Center before entering Cars Land at Disney California Adventure® Park. The race continues into Disneyland® Park, down Main Street, U.S.A. before completing the final stretch of the course through the Downtown Disney® District and arriving at the finish line next to the Disneyland® Hotel. Aladdin and the Genie are on hand to cheer you along your way.

Thanks bought our bibs from a travel agent. No up to speed on this run, just a spur of the moment decision. But looking forward to Dumbo.

WHERE ARE MY MEDALS. :(

RIGHT? Someone on one of my FB groups posted this photo that had a DLH medal in it and I thought, wait did I miss it???? But, I'm pretty sure it was an old one. Obviously old. SIGH

Guy working the RunDisney booth at RNR Seattle said early August for medal release. I hope he was wrong and it's sooner!

Guys, I'm slipping on my training. But reading these new posts over the past couple of weeks have me fired up! So thanks! :worship:

I'm starting to do some preliminary planning for this trip! Does anyone have any advice for how to handle the expo? Some trip reports I read from last year made it sound kind of crazy. I arrive on Wednesday the 31st, so I could go when it opens on Thursday if that would be best time.
Also, does anyone have recommendations for pre-race dinners? Thanks!

Thursday after the initial beginning Rush is the least busy. We usually go midday Friday and the booths are insane but the merch line was only like 20 min and they still have a bunch of stuff

As far as the expo goes that are a couple of different strategies. If you want race specific merchandise (in previous years, Dumbo especially) that can't be preordered, go early the first day. But really early. Lines will start in the 6 a.m. range if not earlier. And then there will still be a line.

If you just want to pick up bibs/attend the expo, waiting until later in the afternoon should be fine.

That being said, this is the first year the races haven't sold out so I'm not sure if that will affect the expo ...

I saw an updated aerial image of Disneyland this week and it looks like currently Star Wars Land construction will impact both the 5K and 10K course. For the 5K of course the Big Thunder Trail is closed. This shouldn't be too hard to update by just using a slightly different path in the park.
For the 10k, the backstage road that went past the "Circle D Ranch" (where the horses stayed) is now closed. So I'm wondering if they will just reroute the course backstage.

It looks like we're near the 60-day mark to make dining reservations! Tomorrow marks August 29th - so it's time to get planning on your pre-race and post-race meals in the next few days.

Where are you all thinking of eating? :)

For Packet Pickup (Thursday night), we are eating inside the park at quick service (not sure how long the expo will take, so ADR is not happening) so we can get a picture with the Dumbo Bib and the Photo-op Dumbo station.

The post-10K (Saturday) breakfast will be at Steakhouse 55. I am going to order the "two times four" breakfast with the french toast and fruit - it's the best!

For Sunday's half marathon, I think we're just going to scramble out of there as soon as possible and pick up In-n-Out Burger on the way home before we shower.

Hi everyone! DH and I are getting excited for our September trip and race weekend! This may be too early to ask, but from your past experiences, have any of you gone straight into the parks after the 1/2 marathon? We are only going to have Sunday and Monday in the parks, so wanted to make the most of it (we live on the east coast, and this is only our 2nd time to DL!), knowing that it will be crowded with fellow runners and Labor Day weekend guests, and that getting there first thing in the AM is probably a good idea. BUT, perhaps going right in smelly and sweaty post race is not so nice for the general public, and I know we will be tired. Maybe a better plan might be clean ourselves up, eat a lovely and large breakfast, rest/nap by the pool, go to the parks later in the day, and then make the most of Monday? Thank you in advance for your advice and ideas!! :)

Looks like I'm doing this trip solo, so I don't think I'm going to do any ADR this time :(

I'll be solo as well, plus it'll be my first time ever at Disneyland, so probably no ADRs for me, either. I tend towards counter service on solo jaunts.
Disneyland has pretty decent counter service, so not a bad plan. :)
