Official 2016 - Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend

Wished they kept Captain for the 10k instead of demoting him to the 5k.

THIS. This is why I am angsting over to do or not do the 5K. I wanted the Capt America shield and they moved him to a plastic medal.

Is it completely sold out!? Or do they hold some spots for the open registration next week?

Just the spots for early registration. You can still get in next week no problem! :)

@Angel Ariel I have heard that early registration is about 5-10% of the total bibs available - so it was a very small amount up for grabs today. :) The other 90-95% are what will be sold next week.

@Ariel484 I am still surprised that the Captain America 5K is available -- I would have thought that, the challenge, and the 10k would have gone by now. Wine and Dine was so fast! Maybe next week will tell a different story.

Yay, I was able to get into the Dr. Strange 10K this morning. This is my first race and I'm super excited! I have a WDW trip planned the week after. This race is my motivation to get in shape. I'm a fan of the MCU so it's definatly a bonus that the races are Avengers themed. If any of you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.

Yeah, I get why the 10K went first - so many of those spots are eaten up by challenge runners, so there aren't a ton of 10K-only bibs available.

I wonder if this race just isn't a super popular one for runDisney? Or if they're getting over-saturated in California (look at Tink half - still open 1 month our from race day, Disneyland Half and Dumbo are still open, and this)? :confused3

We were figuring that hotel prices might start going up as demand increases once the race goes on sale to the general public, so that is now crossed off my to-do list :)

For those of you that arrive a few days before the race, do you pace yourself in the parks in the days leading up to the race? We are looking at a Wed-Wed trip. Last year we arrived on Friday, and only had 1 park day before DH ran the 1/2. This year we're looking at a good 3 days of parks before the 10K.

This race wasn't busy last year either. It was very different from other races - felt like they didn't do much prep for it and it's forgotten about. It's also a weird time of year since it's a week after Wine & Dine and just before Thanksgiving. I still think they need to rebrand one of the California races as Disney Villains. Imagine earning an Ursula medal or running the Gaston Challenge - the 5k, 10k, and half!

If that race weekend existed I would give them all of my money. It's crazy they don't have a villains weekend - they're sitting on a gold mine!!

A lot of early nights was the answer for me. I was a little bummed to miss the parades and fireworks in the evening, but it was just not worth how tired I would be at 4am! From Thursday to Sunday (I did all three races last year) I stuck to only doing the parks until mid afternoon. After that I chilled out in the resort for the rest of the afternoon/evening and had an early night.

You really need to do what works for you. Just listen to your legs. If they start to feel tired or heavy, it's time to go hand out and watch tele, read, or float in the pool for a while :)

Good point, I just booked a hotel with a good cancellation policy to guarantee myself a room.

What is the best area for hotels? I usually stay near the Toy Story parking lot to take advantage of the buses but I know they won't be operating that early in the morning on the day of the race. Should I stay near BW STovalls? Or on Harbor at the front?

We generally stay at the Tropicana on HRbor. It's nothing fancy, but it is clean and comfortable and is a 5 min walk to the gates :)

I have to say the only criteria I have is "not one I have to run past!". I stayed at the Hilton Anaheim once and it was a killer to run past it knowing you were hurting and had to keep going! :scared:

Having said that, the Hilton was a really nice place to stay.

Now that Big Thunder Ranch is no more, are pasta parties a thing of the past at Disneyland? I enjoyed them for the chance to see the superheroes.

Does anyone know how long it took for the 5k to sell out for APs? I'm hoping to register for the 5k and the Challenge, and I'm debating if I'll be able to get in to the 5k if I register for the challenge first.

The Avengers Pasta Party last year was the last Pasta party that they've had on the calendar for runDisney races in California. Makes me a little sad because I had a GREAT time at the party last year. In the past they had done Pasta Parties in DCA, but that area is currently being used too. You think they would find some place to host them because that is a quick way to make a lot of money at $89 a person.

Also this is the week for general registration! So exciting!

For those registering that haven't done one recently - there is now a little 'running man' that tells you how close you are to the front of the line (not sure when that started but it was there for Wine & Dine). Some people during W&D freaked out, it's all good, just let it go. Also, hot tip for those that are doing more than one registration - do not close the browser! You don't need to go through the little man again, I was able to do multiple registrations without having to do that again, but those that closed their browser had to start again.

Good luck to all of us registering :) I can't wait to see the long list of "I'm in!" tomorrow.
