Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Just finished last long run 17 km this morning.
Gorgeous morning here sunny, we ran along the river.
In the main river there were so many sites lots of seals at least 10 in one group we saw,
Eagles busy fishing it made us feel so luck to have a wonderful place to run.
Ran 12 km yesterday so my back to back runs are done. Feeling pretty good Achilles still bugging me a little but not as much as at Princess
So that's a good thing. Off to the Dr. this afternoon for more injections in the Achilles. It is on the mead!
So I have the girls on taper now! Yippee! Just maintenance now! We are ready.
Hope everyone's training is going well.

Wow, me too. Thanks again for posting the link. I would have been so sad to have missed out. Do deferrals usually fill up that fast? I can understand why, since most of the time you register really early a lot can happen in the in between times. If the price increase is not exorbitant and the race is not one that usually sells out I usually wait until it is pretty close before registering.
I don't know about other races, but w/ DL SW I was able to defer the Rebel Challenge Sun before race weekend. Either the 10k or 1/2 was full but the other one was open, but limited.

I am both ready and not ready for this.

Anyone else going to the expo on Thursday night? I think I'll be there around 6pm to pick up the bib.

I will probably not get to the expo until Saturday and I had thought I might like a ctc shirt..depending on how I like it....but it may be if they even have any left! I fly into LAX on Friday around 3pm so doubt I can make it to the expo by closing.
All the LR are done..just a few mid and short runs left! After this I am going back to walking until late fall. It just to hot and humid here to run.
After the Tinkerbell Half DD and I will have until Wednesday to enjoy the parks...and we have no plans or dining reservations...just relax and take it as it comes!

Definitely not ready. My mom has been sick long enough for it to disrupt her training, but I think she's finally well enough for me to get her back out tonight. I hope.

I only signed her up for the 10K so I'm not terribly worried. Plus since the terrain will be much smoother than the 5K trail/wetlands run we did about a month ago, she should be better off. But I do want to make sure she can keep up the pace enough for us to get at least one character stop. I am super looking forward to having Photopass pictures this year for it and my likely ridiculous "why did I sign up for this?" faces I will be unknowingly making.

Me? I have so much to get done before then that while I'm more than ready to run, I am not ready to be gone for a whole weekend, haha! Thankfully fabric won't be here until tomorrow for our running costumes (and I may decide the fabric won't work and will have to find a plan B costume) because I still have some tutus for one one of my jobs to finishing fixing the waists on for a spring dance concert (which I have to miss because it's Tink weekend). Cross fingers I like the fabric! I found a Cool Max knit that I think will do what I want it to, but I did something I hate doing: bought online and without getting a swatch first.

We were going to be there bright and early Thursday (coming in Wednesday), but my mom and I really can't take Wednesday off work now and I don't want to get in at 1/2am in the morning if we left after work (and I get off work much later than her). So now we're leaving ridiculously early Thursday morning (probably around 3am) to get to Anaheim hopefully by 10am. It'll suck, though. My mom and I will have to take turns sitting in the car (with the air on if it's a warm day) and going to get our bibs/get any merchandise. My cat travels with us and since we won't be able to check in until about 4pm... poor thing will need to be babysat.

Question for those that have raced at WDW and DL. I'm reading the races are less crowded and better organized at DL, Do you find this true? I'm hoping to use this half as POT for marathon weekend.

I am so excited for this one! I just tested my tee-shirt/skirt combination over the weekend. I decided to make a skirt instead of buying one and I think it cost me double what I would have spent purchasing one. :rotfl:

Plus I seem to be leaving a trail of sparkles, I keep find them around the house. :tinker:

DISCLAIMER: I've run many WDW races and have only done 1 DL race weekend, so take what I say with a grain of salt...

DL races are definitely smaller races. I wouldn't say the organization is any better or worse at DL compared to WDW - I think they both do a good job.

The race weekend experience is definitely EASIER at DL, though, mostly because you don't have to take buses (assuming you're staying close to DL property). Expo is right there in DL hotel and in most cases you can walk to the corrals.

Using it as proof of time could be iffy, just because the paths in the parks are even more narrow than at WDW. And the corrals for Tink are huge - if you look at them they are a bunch of large corrals instead of WDW where it's even more small corrals. I think whether or not you can get a "fast" time at DL greatly depends on which corral you're actually in - again, if you look at them, you'll notice that about 1/3 of the runners are in the first 3 corrals, vs. the 3 latter corrals where there are 11,000ish (talking about the half). I think that would make it pretty tough for someone in D, E or F to run a really fast time, because I have to think the crowding will be worse back there. I don't know what they were thinking dispersing the corrals this way. I was at DL half weekend in September, and I don't rember the course being super crowded, but I was in corral B. I have no idea how it was for someone who started in a corral after mine.

Having said that, the DL races seem to have their park miles in the beginning, so while the first few miles will be a little more crowded, once you get out into Anaheim for the remainder of the race, it'll open up. I had a crazy negative split at the DL Half Marathon simply due to that course layout (first 3-4 miles in the parks - where it was more crowded and I stopped for pictures, vs. the rest of the race out in Anaheim with almost nothing to stop for but more room to run).

Good to know! I want to use this as POT since I don't know how many more chances I will get to run a 10 miler or more before Oct. but I don't want to be stressed out trying to get through crowds of people either. I pay too much for these races to not have an enjoyable experience. I want to make sure I have the appropriate expectations going into it. Thanks!

We will be there Thursday afternoon probably around 2 pm. Flying into SNA having a car pick us up through Super Shuttle. I am hoping to score a Tinkerbell Wine glass but doubt we will be there in time. Anyone up for a meet up in Disneyland Hotel some where? Thanks for all the info Ariel!

I'm going to have anxiety about this race until I know specifically what corral I'm in - either D, E or F.

I just want a really good, fast race. Get outta my way people in wings and running four wide.

When you download your waiver you can see your bib number. Then use the charts below:

Definitely less crowded than WDW, the 1/2 by a lot. It might get a little crowded going in and out of backstage or the parks, but the roads are wide open. I agree w/ Ariel, I think both coasts have great organization. The biggest difference is the overall ease of DL. No shuttles and early early mornings. The one great thing about this race vs WDW or Princess is no highway miles. There may not be as many character spots, but outside the parks is residential and downtown areas w/ bands and cheerleaders, people on their lawn cheering you on, and that helps in my opinion. Outside the races, it's nice having the parks across from each other so you can park hop super easy.

I will probably not get to the expo until Saturday and I had thought I might like a ctc shirt..depending on how I like it....but it may be if they even have any left! I fly into LAX on Friday around 3pm so doubt I can make it to the expo by closing.
They have the shirt on the Disney store sight, not sure if it's all sizes, and there might even be free shipping right now.
