Weather "improving" in my opinion:

If we could scoot that high down into the 50s and the have race start to be high 30s or low 40s I would be happier than a pig in mud.popcorn:: I am just praying for at least the high not to go any higher than what is listed here.

67F yesterday at 0630 and 69F today. 73F right now so I am making sure I keep on getting out incase the temps are a little milder than usual. Crazy weather is what we have been having and next year might just continue this way. For all you colder climate region racers, I hope it cools way down for you.

Ok....tell me what degree of crazy this is:

The situation: I have the start of a sore throat. The forecast for tomorrow is 40 degrees and constant rain/mist. This is literally the last day I can do my 20-miler before the start of holiday travel. It is tomorrow or never, and I am almost sick thinking about being out in the cold and wet for so long.

Would it be completely, utterly insane to do 20 miles on a treadmill in the warmth and comfort of my basement? Has anybody ever done that long on a treadmill? Beyond the boredom of the slowly passing miles, is there risk of injury? Would it be better than being out in the rain?

I did an ok 19 outside, but really want a 20 under my belt before race day. I know it is not much difference physically, but it's a big difference for me mentally.
Am I just out of my mind and I should haul my butt out into the rain?

All opinions welcome! Thanks!

I have done two 20 miles runs on the treadmill due to poor weather... Boring yes but anyone will tell you at this distance it's more mental than physical...My plan was to do four 5 miles runs with only a few seconds in between to reset the treadmill. I would start at a comfortable speed and every 5 to 10 minutes increase the speed... Once done the 5 mile run, reset your speed back down to the comfortable speed and build back up.. It was just mentally easier to know after doing the second 5 mile run , I was half done and also at the end of each run it will get easier...

Great minds think alike! That is exactly what I did. I had a paper taped up next to the treadmill with four big, red 5s on it. After each 5, I ceremoniously crossed one out with a black Sharpie.

Also, it looks like I may have burned up the motor on my treadmill. I am not too happy about that, but I guess there is some pride in saying that I ran a treadmill to death.

I just noticed now that there is an "Official RunDisney Merchandise" setup in both the Field House and Jostens Center. That wasn't the case last year, was it?

If they are both equal, that should really help with the crowding/availability of stuff I hope!

At Wine&Dine they had that. I had one thing to buy and it was at the bib pickup spot, so I got it there. Then we went to the Expo and the selection was MUCH bigger. So I went through that area, too. Found nothing more compelling than my little medal for my vinylmation Mickey, though. :)

Wow! That is impressive!!! Sorry about your treadmill though. ;)

Yep. Accuweather is great. This is still way too far out to be realistic though.:3dglasses

I hope so. Thunderstorms and running is as bad a combination as yellow and snow!
Thunderstorms are likely late in the day. So the morning would be overcast and cool. That would be perfect for the run but not so good for the celebration afterward.

Happy (almost) Holidays, everyone! Anyone donning some festive-wear on their run today or tomorrow? If the rain stops tomorrow I'll throw on some reindeer antlers and give the neighbors some laughs! :rotfl:

I will be wearing my Grinch pyjamas tomorrow and NOT running! In fairness it will be my first day off after 31 straight running days, so I think I've earned the break :thumbsup2

I'm wearing a Santa hat and airline pajamas on a 24-hour trip back to our house in Florida.

Have a safe trip home! I know that's a loooonnngggg flight, my DH did some work over on that side of the world for a couple years and would stop over in Dubai. Glad to hear you get to come home for the holidays and I'm guessing you'll be staying through Marathon weekend. :thumbsup2 enjoy your Holidays!!!

Me too! Wore my Brooks ugly sweater on a run yesterday.

Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

Merry Christmas, all! I need some quick advice -

I did a 3 mile run-walk session today. I pushed myself a bit on the running, trying to improve my speed a bit. I thought I was focused enough on my form, but when I got home I realized I had slightly tweaked one of my knees. Nothing terrible, just some pinching pain that I have been told by a running coach is caused by over striding and essentially landing on a locked knee.

WDW Half will be my first half. This time last year I could barley walk 2 miles without being exhausted. I've since done some 10ks, an 8 miler, and a 15k. I've done all my races and training using the Galloway method.

Over the last 6 weeks I've put in five run-walk sessions that ranged from 8.75-11 miles. I was planning a 12-13 mile brisk walk session this weekend. I wanted to log closer to the full race distance just to know in my own mind I can do it (all at a brisk walk if needed).

In light of this knee issue, should I skip the long session this weekend? Should I try for a long walk session on Jan. 1? That's a little close to race day, but still 9 days out. I'm trying to figure out the right balance between properly preparing myself as a new runner, and not overtraining and hurting myself before race day.

Hopefully, someone with a lot more experience than me will chime in. Personally, I wouldn't push it this close to the half. I would make sure my knee isn't hurting before I did any long training runs.
This will be my 3rd half and I also run with intervals. My longest training distance before my 1st half was only 8 miles. For my 2nd, it was 10 miles and for this race my longest run was 9 miles this past Monday.
I agree with the pain possibly being from stride distance. I have to focus on a shorter stride during my runs. My issues are usually with my hips though.
Good luck!
