Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

What time is a good time to arrive at Epcot for family 5k? Is it better to drive or take bus, etc from resort?

I saved last year's program...driving directions for the 5K say the following:

"Take I-4 to exit 64 (192 West) and follow the signs to Epcot." Although I'm assuming you're staying on property since you asked about the bus so maybe this isn't helpful. :upsidedow I've never driven to the races before. I'd imagine driving to the 5K wouldn't be as big a deal as some of the longer races, though, just because you wouldn't have to worry about road closures.

Last year the race itself started at 6:15AM. Unfortunately I don't see where they say what time to arrive, but I'd have to guess they want all runners there by 5:30AM. I'm sure the earlier you arrive, the easier it is to get a parking spot.

I've taken the buses to every Disney rave I've done and it's always been really smooth - nice to have one less thing to think about that early! But I could see the appeal of having control over your transportation as well. :confused3

I have no idea if this helped. :rotfl:

Does anyone know what the very last finisher's time was this year? The legend of the balloon ladies is starting to creep me out!

Wooh! Coolio, Values it is! So close after Christmas I can't justify spending lots of $$$ on a Mod or Deluxe. Wine and Dine is defo my next RunDisney Goal followed by the Half Marathon. If I can get over my dislike of flying, I wanna go for the Coast to Coast medal by 2017. :)

Wine and dine has been our favorite so far. It's hard to argue with running a long distance only to arrive at a place/event with so many "recovery foods"

I gave the results from last years race a quick look,it showed that there were 9480 finishers and I saw that the person that came in 9443 place finished in 3:03,just over 18 minutes per mile. From what I've heard you can only get swept up to a certain point in the course, basically to get you off the streets,so I guess its possible that as soon as someone is safe from being swept they may take their sweet time to finish giving them finish times longer than the 16 minute per mile requirement.

Sorry these are Tower of Terror results, got my threads confused,I'll post the same for the marathon ASAP.

OK,Disney World marathon 2014 had 19235 finishers and 19222th place finished in 7:55,also just over 18 minutes per mile.

Actually, that's my plan too. I'm leaving on my first trip to DL tomorrow. It's my first half marathon, so sub 2 hr is not in the cards for me. :) Regardless, I'll be bypassing pics in DLH in the hope a sub 2:20 run (even though I've read that it's not a good race for fast runs due to crowds & weather). I can then use that to get a not-at-the-end-of-the-pack placement in the Disney World Marathon. And at the DWM take EVERY pic I want/ride EE/other while I walk/jog/enjoy the DWM. :thumbsup2 I'd do another 1/2 for a PR, but there really aren't that many choices for me in TX before the cutoff date for proof-of-time. Next year, I'll plan a 1/2 that's a PR favorite (ex. all downhill like 3M Half here in Austin, or all flat like The Jazz @ New Orleans one). Needless to say, DWM will also be my first marathon. I'm somewhat concerned about the distance as well, but I'll just keep at it and hopefully training plan/prevention/common sense will get me there without injuring myself! :goodvibes Good luck on Sunday's run!!!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:thumbsup2

You're in Texas. Come up to the DFW area on September 21st for the Plano Balloon Festival 1/2 Marathon.

The time of the last finisher might not be the time of the person who ends up in last place. One could start in an early corral and end up with the slowest time due to the cushion they have from starting early. I'd guess that the last person across the line was not the person with the slowest time.

Too much too soon for a running newbie like me! :)

The DLH was my first Half ever. I need to take it easy and concentrate on restarting training, now for the DWM. :goodvibes

Understandable. I'm using to get a better qualifying time for both the WDH and WDM. You should check out RunOnTexas.com . It's a running store, but at the top is a link to "find your race". They list lots of the runs throughout Texas. Maybe you'll find one that matches your training schedule.

Training is more fun when there is bling involved.

Question for other runners. On my longer training runs (longer than 10 miles) I develop blisters on the inside of my foot up near my big toe. Both feet. And in the underside area between my big toe and foot. I generously apply plenty of body glide to the area prior to my run. I've been using the same thorlo socks for years and I've been running in Brooks Revenas for years too. I've tried moleskin over the whole area but that doesn't seem to help. The moleskin ends up sweating off or slides in my sock to where it's uncomfortable. I've read a little about Bandaid Brand Blister Defense but the ingredient list looks a lot like body glide. Suggestions?

I have bunions so I get hot spots and blisters if I don't prepare my feet before running. I use New Skin over my bunion area and the top of toe/toenail. I'm not sure if New Skin is the same as moleskin? I get it at Walmart. And I then I use Body glide over the top of toes and under the balls of my feet. I used to wear Thorlo socks, too. I switched to Balega and Injinji but I'm really wanting to try Smartwool. For longer, long runs (8 and up) I use KT tape as well.

I like the band aid blister things. You may also want to try duct tape over your moleskin or band aids. Seriously, it holds anything in place and is slick, allowing a smooth slide against the sock.

If I were consistently getting blisters, but was otherwise doing things correctly, I would look at my shoes.

I switched to injinji toe socks and don't get any blisters now, before on long runs I would get them as a couple of my toes orverlap and get smushed when running. Your blisters sound different, but the overall sock doesn't move or rub at all either since it's very form fitting all over.

My suggestion is to try a pair of shoes a half size (or even one full size) larger than what you're using. I had a similar issue with the sore spot above my pinky toe on both feet. Moving to the larger size did the trick.

That's what worked for me and your situation is certainly different but I still wanted to offer it up for your thought. Good luck!

I recently (2 months ago) moved up a half shoe size and that did help the problem a little bit, but not entirely. Since I'm going Dopey I don't want blisters from the 1/2 impeding my full the next day.

I'll look into different socks today. Plus the new skin sounds promising.

I've read of runners duct taping their feet as well, but thought that sounded a little crazy. I might have to look a little bit more into that.

Thanks all.

What time does the convention(where you pick up race packets) open? We plan on trying to go to universal studios after picking up packets so just wondering

Not sure if this would help, but maybe try a shoe with a wider toe box? Last pair of shoes I got, the running store attendant suggested a wider toe box to allow for expansion in long runs and it's worked out well.

I also wear Feetures Elite Ultra Light socks which are like a second skin. Some folk like them, some hate them, but they've worked pretty well for me. I have Morton's toes (longer 2nd toe), so I can't comfortably use anything with individual toe sleeves.

Good luck with Dopey! :thumbsup2

DW started getting blisters in the exact same spot. I picked her up some new socks at Lukes Locker yesterday, and once the guy found out why I was buying new socks he also steered me toward 2tom's anti-chafing product. He said he uses it all the time now over body glide because it doesn't come off as he sweats. She just started using it, so I'm not 100% on it yet - but DW had said she thought she was sweating off the body glide during the longer runs. (FYI - Long for us, is probably much shorter than long for you - LOL)
