Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

Got registered for my first 5k, yeah not the best run, but doing it for myself, I know I can get lazy and most likely will, but if not then I'll be more then ready to go

Awesome! :cheer2: Will you run with your camera & take pics for your Disploration page? That would be really cool!
Ha ha!!! I will probably do some picture taking.... especially since I know there will be plenty of slower moments for me. ;)

Maybe I'll even get super inspired and run with my DSLR, instead of a pocket sized camera.

Congrats on your upcoming first 5K -- a great goal! :cool1: And, yeah! Do it for yourself! :thumbsup2

I've seen people do that!

Just keep in mind...it'll be humid, you'll be sweating, there will be a lot of people around...so on and so forth.

So that means you have to do your training runs with it :rotfl:

(Edited to fix my horrible spelling)

It's good to know I probably wouldn't be the only doing it. I live in Orlando, and am at Disney all the time. So I'm good with my camera around crowds, and lugging it around in the heat. Although i know running with it will be a completely different animal. At least January isn't too bad... usually.

I can just imagine what people would think when driving by. At least I'll probably just look like I'm terribly late for an event that I need my camera for. Unless of course they drive past me again. :(

I bought a little point and shoot, cause no way I'm running with my $1500 DSLR. I love that camera too much. The $60 point and shoot, if it breaks, it breaks.

So huge kudos to you if you run with a DSLR. I might have to take a picture of you taking pictures with it, cause that will be highly impressive.

That's how I feel about it, and my DSLR isn't worth that much!

I have a Canon point-and-shoot that I paid a little over $100 for that has held up pretty well through 8 races at Disney. I've been bringing my phone in a Lifeproof case too. Not taking any chances.

Glad were registered for the 5k at leas. Still surprised Goofy hasn't shown up in some form at least on the percentage bars!

And there goes the Marathon bar. Crap. Looks like I am not going to get sit on that one either. Dad is not going to be a happy camper, at all. I am kind of hoping that maybe the rush will slow some but I doubt it.

I've been through many many adventures with my DSLR. So I'm fairly confident that it will be just fine. I do understand the hesitation though.

I can't believe I forgot to try this!!! But I'm still so excited I got in for the half, that I will just pretend I know nothing about this.

Good plan, I've been annoyed at myself all afternoon but I guess I should listen to Queen Elsa and 'let it go...' ;)

:guilty:

I had one job today. To wake up in time to sign DH and DS up for the 5K. And thanks to my forgetful nature and a poorly timed bout of insomnia, I failed.

I just got DS in on the Mickey Mile, and maybe I'll get them ChEAR Squad for my Half...but I still feel just terrible.

Really really really wishing rundisney would set themselves up so that people could legally sell bibs, so I could buy them later if others needed to cancel. Dang.

Okay question has anyone ever done the Family Reunion Breakfast? Is it any good and what the heck do they serve?

We did the Family breakfast after the Royal Family 5k (Princess Weekend) in 2013. The food was mediocre at best and I didn't really think it was a good value.

They didn't do any deferments. It was just straight up cancelled. They mailed everyone their shirts and are offering discounts to 2014's races, and if you run in 2014 you'll get the medal you would have earned in 2013. Plus they have this special deal with Rock n' Roll series where is you ran the 2014 Dallas Rock n' Roll and the Dallas half/marathon you get an extra medal, so I would be getting three medals if I do their races. I do love me some race bling ...

Well, although the no-deferrals would have disappointed me, it sounds like they tried to make it up in other ways.

My caveat here is that I was sick as a dog and feeling rotten, so I didn't enjoy anything like I should have. BUT even through the haze of that, the 5K was neat and fun. Everyone around us was having a GREAT time. I don't think there's anything wrong with the WDW 5K, and yay for you!!!!!

DS and I did it after the 5K this year. I found it to be rather blah. The characters in the tent were random Monsters U. characters. Neither DS or I remember the food at all.

But for some ridiculous reason I had a total misunderstanding of what it was going to be; I was picturing it IN Epcot, not in the parking lot tent. And as I mentioned above, I was sick.

Thanks guys! Sounds like a definite pass for us then. Would rather have breakfast back at the hotel or get something to eat in the parks after the race maybe. 80 bucks I would rather spend somewhere else.

By the way anyone know when we can start booking hotels or why I'm hitting a road block trying to select January dates (website won't let me go past December of this year)? This isn't our first time booking a Disney hotel room. But whenever we try to book anything we can't go past New Year's Eve. And there is no way we are arriving that early before the Marathon.

Disney usually don't open up the following year for bookings until August if I recall correctly.

You can call and go on and reserve a room at rack rate. Then change to package or special rate when those are released.
