The only part I'm not sure about is the race retreat. I purchased it for the PHM and enjoyed it, but planned to skip it for the marathon in January. I don't eat a ton before or after the race, the bag checks outside the RR didn't look too busy and I'm familiar enough with the port-o-potty situation that I'd be OK without the RR bathrooms. But pre-race temperature/climate control and the changing space (yeah, not the best, but it's there) are making me think twice. I also like arriving super early so that I don't have to worry about being late, so it was nice to have a place to wait. And, of course, there's the bacon. Not a decision I have to make today, but interested in your thoughts and experiences!
FWIW, I was pointed to the *big* portopotties at the Retreat and told that was where the changing area was. And by the end of the Retreat time after this year's Half, there was at least one guy not caring what bathroom area he was using, so I felt very uncomfortable (but I had to use the bathroom).
I might have been pointed to the wrong place, but I didn't SEE any other changing area at all in the Retreat.
For me it was the muffins. And the eggs, dowsed in hot sauce (b/c I hate Disney scrambled eggs but NEEDED the protein). Oh and the coffee.
Just signed up for my very first 1/2 marathon.
I feel a little crazy right now. - so nervous and so excited all at the same time.
I think the hardest part of the training will be training my body to wake up at 3am!
Yay you!
I haven't done a single training run forcing myself to be up that early (especially since 3am eastern is midnight here and I'm NOT running at midnight), but I managed to wake up for my events.

For me training is training the legs and lungs and heart and figuring out my hydration and fuel...not the actual waking up part.
And omg I just signed myself up for the Half. I surprised myself 100%. I hadn't even thought about it. I was sick as a dog this year for the 5K I limped through with DS, he started getting sick on the day of his Mickey Mile, and was REALLY getting sick with what I already had, as he was watched over by my aunt as I limped even slower through my Very First Half marathon. We were too sick after that to go to a park and wear our medals, which is a much bigger bummer than I ever thought ahead of time it would be!
But suddenly I just went to the DVC site and just did it. And I'll be signing the family up for the 5K once it's open (WHY am I not an active AP holder now? WHY?) for me. (why can't I do the 5K with DVC?)
Can you use a voucher to link to MDE to get registered now?
So my son and I are having a re-do. We're going to beat these races. Woo!
