Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

 You and I are neighbors. I live just to the south of you... I did the 12k yesterday too!! I have a cold though and it really kicked my but. (as did the hills ;)) I have a question though...... what did your miles come out to be for the 12k? The pace that they show doesn't match up with what a 12k would give. It has me thinking they tried to say it was a 12k just to keep with the "12th man". I know that is crazy though... but look at your finish time and the pace they give. Seems to not be consistent with what a 12k would give. Plus..mine and someone else I know had their gps show a different distance...more consistent with what the final results show as a pace. :confused3

Where are you at?
My Nike app gps showed distance ran as farther. Pace was close to Nike.
There were so many people in the narrow paths that it slowed my sister and I.
My next run is the Mother's Day 1/2 in Kirkland.
Sadly I am dealing with a irritated Achilles.

I am down in Enumclaw. :goodvibes

My "official" pace was closer to my ap too. Not sure how they calculated pace. did you do the 5k or 12k?

My next run is probably going to be up in Snoqualmie... an 8k :goodvibes

You aren't far away.
I ran the 12k.
When is the 8K in snoqualmie?
Are you planning on running the half at WDW in January?

The 8k is on May 3rd. Have you ever done any of the runsnoqualmie events? The guy who does them does an excellent job. I have always been pleased with his races. If you go here it will take you to his races.

I do plan on running the half in January. "just" the half ;) Although with the goofy medal that was released... man it is tempting. I just fear I would not be able to do a full marathon. I suppose I could walk a mile and then run a mile until I was done. Wonder if anyone else uses that strategy... I just know I couldn't run a full 26.2 miles.

Never say never. People are much more capable than they think they are once they put their mind to it.

This will be my first Goofy Challenge and even though I plan to do more training than other years for the Disney full as I'll be doing several half marathons, the TOT 10 miler and several back to back long runs(10+ miles) at home in the months before Marathon weekend I know what my body can tolerate and it's not what extremely fit marathoners can tolerate,I'm just not built that way.I know I can handle the full even though I'll be sore and stiff for the next 3 days, knowing that, I have no plans go all out for the half,in fact I'll probably walk a fairly good chunk of it,like half or more.My plan is to feel as fresh as possible on Sunday like I just went out for a nice 5 mile run on the treadmill the day before, not like I ran a half marathon.I do believe the body does get used to the running, between October last year and March this year I ran the TOT,the Disney full and 4 half marathons, the last one in early March.I was amazed at how little soreness I had after that March one, like I think the only time I felt anything at all was one time I bent down to grab something,my body after that 13 mile run felt like I had only run 3-4 miles.Even knowing that I know the marathon distance is a monster and up until this point I've always enjoyed running it,I have not interest in going so hard on Saturday that the marathon on Sunday will be a bad experience.

That is so sweet of you. You are probably right. I should not say never. I know that just doing a 10k once seemed out of reach. I put my mind to it.. trained and now I could run that any day of the week... Still though.. maybe after I get another half or two under my belt I would feel more confident in my ability to do a full. :goodvibes

I think that is something for me to consider too... that it isn't just the full that I would need to take easy. I would need to not go out to hard in the half.

Congrats to you for this being your first goofy! :thumbsup2

If you've never done it before, then going easy for both races is usually the safest and smartest option. No sense in blowing out your legs for a PR in the half only to then suffer that much more during the full. Nice and easy and steady for both days gives you time & opportunity to enjoy the experience, take lots of pictures, and cross the finish line with a smile on your face.

The Goofy Medal is nice this year. But considering WDW will be my first full in 3 years its not a good idea. Plus there is the fact I'm doing all of my fall races. Yeah doing Goofy this year is not a good idea.

I also barely convinced my parents that the WDW Marathon was a good idea. I had to point out that with me doing the Wine and Dine/Avengers in 2014 I'm all ready doing 26.2 miles in a week. I might as well try to do it a day. There is no way I will get them on board with Goofy this year. Maybe in a year.

Ah well I got the pretty Wine and Dine Anniversary Medal to stare at instead since I'm doing that.

So I'm normally very quiet on this board but I need help on what to do for registration.

Background - I've done rundisney for awhile now and hurt myself marathon weekend this year. I strained my calf in the 10k (going out of the parking lot - mile 1) and then finished then 10k and proceeded to run 6.5 miles of the half before calmly deciding it was time to stop. It turns out I pushed way way too hard and crushed a nerve in my leg with all the calf swelling. I was told 2 years for a full recovery...if I recover.

Fast forward - it's April and I can now walk almost without a limp (yay!) and have been working out on the elliptical but haven't been successful running or even walking more than a mile.

I signed up for wine and dine b/c I'm a stubborn girl but there's a strong chance I'll need to defer. How do I handle marathon weekend? Family is all running and I hate spectating. I love them but I don't want to sit on the sidelines.

Do I sign up for 5k/10k? 1/2 is probably off the table. Do I be a loving supporting wife? When I heard 2 year recovery I almost fell on the floor. It's not in me to sit still.

Hi all!

Annual Pass Pre-Registration opens tomorrow!

So I am planning to run the 1/2 with DH, my 2 brothers and SIL. We did the same in 2012 and had a blast. DH and I did the PHM this year, and are doing the Avengers in November to get our coast-to-coast.

One of my brother's is doing the Dopey, and my DH is considering the Goofy.

I have a 5K question....

My dad, myself, my DD8 and DD5, Brother and SIL were looking at doing the 5K. We would be walking it, since my dad will be turning 70, and can't run. I am trying to get everything organized, and am having trouble getting my siblings to commit.

My question is: How fast does the 5K sell out? How about the Dopey and the Goofy?

I know the 1/2 usually doesn't fill up immediately, but I have never paid attention to the other races. The Avengers filled up CRAZY fast, but I knew that ahead of time, so I planned for it.

Anyone have any past experience with these?

Thanks!!

If I were in your place, I'd sign up for the half or the 10k. If your recovery goes well, you can run. If it does not go well, you can defer to 2016. Better to have the option to run and not need it than want it if you're healthy and not have it.

Given the large number of Dopey runners (assuming no change in the size of the field from last year), I think the 5k and 10k will sell out very quickly. If you want to run either of those races, I'd sign up as soon as you can.

With this being the 10th Goofy, I think it'll go much faster than in previous years. Lots of people don't like paying Disney's expensive entry fees but will enter anniversary races to get the special medals. Couple that extra demand with the normal popularity of Goofy, and I think it'll sell out fast. Dopey won't be far behind because some people who didn't get into Goofy will probably just suck it up, pay the extra money, and sign up for Dopey so they can get the Goofy medal.

I am amazed by the discussion about how fast the Goofy will sell out. I was fortunate to participate in the first Goofy in 2006. That year the Goofy was capped at 3,000 runners. Disclaimer: My memory isn't what it used to be, but I am pretty sure the number is correct). That year the Goofy did not fill until the first week or so of June.

Goofy did not sell out until August last year. However, with it being an anniversary year, I would expect it to sell out quicker this year. I'll be signing up first thing next Tuesday.

Ditto. I'm not taking any chances on waiting. And, unfortunately, it's a vicious cycle at this point. The recent speed with which races have been selling out will just prompt more people to be paranoid like me and sign up as soon as possible - making the races sell out quicker and so on and so forth.

Right?! I've thought long and hard about the subject and concluded that a full marathon is not a smart move for me yet; I really need to get through a season without another round of ITBS before even considering a full. But that medal... soooo tempting!

First - congrats on your recovery! Sounds like you're well on your way. :yay: You know your body best, but I think I'd go for the 5K if you feel like you'll be able to walk it. I seriously strolled most of the Princess 5K this year to preserve my legs/energy for the 10K and half - very slow, very leisurely, very fun! The lack of sweepers made it an easy one to do for fun instead of speed.

I totally agree with FFigawi...

Every race is going faster than ever before lately, so I expect the same with marathon weekend. And with Dopey taking slots in the 5K and 10K, I think those will go quickly. Add in a big anniversary for Goofy and yeah - I expect pretty fast sell-outs.

Does anyone know if the registration fees for marathon weekend races are waived if you are an active.com advantage member? I'll be registering for 7 people and looking to save any way that I can, but want to make sure the fees are waived before I sign up! :goodvibes

I believe that's true, but I don't think you can register more than one person with the Advantage membership. I might be wrong though.

Unless it changed from a couple of years ago, Disney races are NOT eligible for the waiving of fees. I know a couple of years ago I was an active.com member and they were not.
