Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel? BW Stovalls is sold out. Thanks

Cindy

Try the hotels on Harbor like; BW Park Place Inn, Fairfield Inn, Howard Johnsons.

There are SO many on Harbor that are walking distance...I'm sure you will find something. Hope this helps.

Yep! I'll be at the HoJo! ;)

I'm at the Howard Johnson on Harbor. They have a 25% discount for Tink runners but you have to call their in house reservations and ask for it.

Many of the hotels on Harbor and Katella are walking distance. I've also stayed at Desert Inn and Suites and the BW Park Place Inn and would stay at either again.

Did 8 miles yesterday in prep for a half I'm running in October. Longest I've run since Tink in January! I'm not as fast as I was before my hip injury but I'll get there! Felt good to get a big chunk of mileage done like that.

Good luck to all you Tinks running in the DL Half and DDD this weekend!

Good job on your run !!

Thanks !! Look forward to Sunday's race.

book our flights to cali the other day. $172 non stop from chicago. So we know how we are getting there now we just need to get the flights home.

running is coming along. I have a half at the end of September and I am hoping it will cooler by then. It is pretty hot here in Chicago land right now.

training is going to start to get kinda tough school started this week and I already have so much home work. Plus there is work and Bears games but I will find the time I always do.

Just wanted to pop in and say good luck to our Tinks who are running in DL this weekend. Hope you have a great race! :tinker: Pixie dust to you!

It's official! I registered DD10 and I for the Tink 10K this morning! She's so excited........me less so when I think of all my money RunDisney has sucked out of me this summer. :scared: But at the end of it all, I'll have my Tink 10K, Tink 1/2, Enchanted 10K, Princess 1/2, Glass Slipper Challenge, Pink C2C AND a You Can Fly Medal from a Virtual 19.3 race challenge (since RD didn't do a tink challenge). I figure i've got the medals covered. :lmao:

DD and I are off to Indianapolis this weekend to run the Indy Women's 5K........this is the race i ran my 1st Half in last year. It's a great event! And it'll be her first BIG event, over 3000 women. not the little small home town runs with about 300 people. and she'll get an AWESOME finisher medal!! princess:

Then my next 1/2 is Women Rock Chicago on 9/21. it's nice that this little 5K i'm doing with DD fits right in with my training plan for chicago.

So, can someone explain the difference between staying at one of these hotels, like the Howard Johnson's, and staying at a Disneyland hotel? Can you walk to the race start from the Howard Johnson's? (Sorry for the cluelessness - I have only been to DL once and it was a pretty long time ago!)

I am officially signed up for Tink thanks to the Disneyland Half Marathon Expo. This is going to be an interesting race since I should be at least a few weeks post op from a bariatric surgery (having the surgery in CA and will be staying at one of the nearby Residence Inns to Disneyland during the recovery) by the time I run this. Hoping to have shed at least a shirt size in time for the race!

The race starts & ends over by the Paradise Pier Hotel, I would suggest putting that hotel in Google maps or whatever and then checking out the distance between that and whatever hotel you're interested in :) As for Disneyland hotels, they are usually quite a bit more expensive than the other hotels. They do offers some perks (early entry to both DCA and DL, nicer pools, that "disney feeling" etc.) PPH is obviously the closest hotel and the Grand is right across the street. But if you don't mind walking there are plenty of less expensive options.

The first Tink, we stayed at PPH. Beautiful hotel and it was crazy convenient. We looked out our window to see the people lining up in the corrals and could just walk downstairs and BAM, there we were. BUT after the race it was a zoo. We had to wait and wait for an elevator back up to our room.
Last year, I went by myself and stayed at the Red Lion. It was less than $100 per night including breakfast. The walk to the expo and start line was maybe 15- 20 minutes and made for a nice warm up in the morning. By the time I was done with the race and made my way back to the hotel, they were still serving breakfast. ::yes:: If I were doing Tink in 14, I would stay there again.

Has anyone worn skirts from skirtsports.com and runningskirts.com? I was wondering if there are any big differences in the two? They appear to be very similar on their websites. I ordered a few this weekend, from both, to see what I like better. One of them was having a pretty good sale, and on the other one the pattern was just too cute to pass up so I paid regular price. I'm hoping I like the fit though.

any-who...I printed out the DDD training program and changed all the dates on it (with Tink green sharpie!) to match up to the Tink weekend. Looks like I'll officially start the program on 9/17. Did anyone here use the Galloway plan for DDD? I noticed when the back-to-back days start, the "run" on saturday is always just a walk. I'm wondering if anyone followed that and only walked on those saturdays but then actually ran the 10k, or did a run/walk during the 10k? Did you feel prepared with only having done walks during training?

Booked my airfare this morning!

I was so sorry to read all the complaints about the Expo and organizations issues at the DLR 1/2 this last weekend. I really hope RunDisney took notes and comes up with a plan of action to correct the issues. I think it will help that the 5k and 10k are being run on different days rather than one immediately following the other.

Time to start training!!

UGH, I hope so too...I was dreading Tink already while reading all the posts about the expo over the weekend. What a mess. I won't be able to get to the expo until probably 1 or 2 pm on the Friday before Tink so I really hope there's something left for me in the merch booth by then...at least a shirt! I'll try not to get my hopes up though in case it's a repeat. If they don't do anything about the crowds, maybe they will at least order more merch so it will last longer!

I booked ours today too! And officially started training yesterday!

I also started my official training today! My friend and I are doing the Galloway program, so we did our first kick-off run this morning (in the dark!). I'm so excited -- it's starting to feel real now. :cool1:
