Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I'm signed up for the 10K and half (and the dopey the weekend before), and trying to decide if I want to sign up for the 5k, as well. It seems like a lot of money for a 5k that's not even timed, but I keep imagining wearing all my medals, and someone asking me, "wow, did you do ALL the races?" And having to say, "No, I skipped a 5k." So silly, but I think I would be disappointed. LOL.

Yes, I am officially crazy.

Well, I thought about that 5K for a month, and tonight I signed up! I'm kind of embarrassed to tell my running buddies because they already think I'm crazy for doing the Dopey, plus the Tinker Bell half a week later. I told one of them this week that I signed up for the 10K, too, and she gave me a "what's wrong with you?" sort of look. I can only imagine what they will say when they eventually find out about the 5K.

All these races might be a huge mistake, but I'm betting I'll be ok. And wishing and hoping and dreaming and praying. :) Only time will tell! Regardless, I'm excited!

I'm running (hopefully) the Tink half too! I still have to start training though. (-:

So just checking, you haven't started training yet for the race? Have you done a half before? Just be careful you don't get hurt. I have no idea what your fitness level is, so maybe you are an Olympian or something!

I'm not planning on running the whole thing. Probably a walk run interval, like jeff galloway. Yes, first half and no, I'm not an olympian! Just a regular girl who really really wants a Tinkerbell fairy wing medal!

That's awesome, good for you! Do you mind me asking what's the furthest you have walked/ran before? Don't want to interfere, but I will tell you 5 months out from the race you will need to get movin! :) just don't want you to get hurt. Even with doing run/ walk intervals (which is what i do) it is still a difficult feat to do the half. I trained a full year before I did my first half. Everyone is different and maybe you are currently doing 5ks and 10ks so then you are good to go! But if not, jump on out there and dig deep......but be careful not to add too much too fast!

Just booked my flights in and out of SNA (Orange County). Just wanted everyone to know that I have been watching the prices daily for about 2 months and todays was the lowest I have seen. It might just be fares from Portland but wanted you all to know you might want to give it a look! I booked it on Alaska Airlines by the way....

Questions about the course-

1) how often are the water/restroom stations? Every 3miles?

2) is each mile marked? Or is it every few that's marked with signage?

Nice! I've been checking on prices from Spokane, but still have to wait a bit longer.

If I remember right less then every 2 miles. They do a great job with this.

Every mile is marked with a cute disney themed mile marker.

I've totally lost my groove...and my "official" training plan for this race should start next month for me :faint: My main motivator, the BF, is hurt right now too...so that makes it even harder! UGH! On the upside, I got a new pair of my favorite running shoes (in an awesome brand new color combo that wasn't even on the shelves yet in the store!) and a pair of Beats ear buds that I've been eyeing for my birthday over the weekend. Normally, that's about all it takes to get me back in the mood, but I'm still struggling. I'm planning to, at the very least, put some treadmill time in this week because I just don't think I can stomach 100 degrees in the outdoors after being so lazy the last couple of months. I always do this to myself between races! :furious:

In the past that was me too. I'd get back on the couch and 3 miles would be a struggle when I started again. A couple of years ago a friend and I just kept signing up for local races so we were doing almost 1 every month. I haven't done quite so many this year, but enough that I feel I can at least finish any race I sign up for. Some are faster than others, depending on how much training has happened between. Actually my best times have been when a 1/2 marathon followed another one by just a week. I don't know how you and other warm weather runners do it though. I'm in the Pacific NW and I don't mind getting out in the rain, but heat does me in. We will encourage you from afar even though we can't be out with you.

I am determined not to lose my groove! I get up in the mornings at 5:30 and I'm out the door running by 6:15 AM. It's still in the 80s by that time, but better than 104° later in the afternoon.

I do this on Saturdays too but it's not an option for me during the week...consequences of living 45 miles away from work :(

Thanks! I'm hoping I can get something started this week!

I am a school teacher and start back to work next week. I'll have to start running in the evenings. I have to wait till after dark because it is still in the 90s till after then.

Same here. I'll get up early on Sundays but I just can't pull it off before work in the AM.
Dont worry though. I know you'll be fine. You'll get your groove back soon! Just start scheduling those short runs for yourself and the longer ones will show up eventually :)
I haven't run since we left for DL so about a week and a half now. Gonna hit hte pavement tonight for a quick 2 miles so I can test out my very first sparkle skirt! Super excited to wear the skirt...not so much for the running part hahaha

:scratchin hmmmm, maybe a new shiny skirt is what I need to get me excited again?? I got a gift card this weekend to the running store near me...wish they sold some sparkle! Something's gotta work because I HAVE to start getting in these short runs before the 16 week training plan starts...and I conveniently keep forgetting that I sighned up for the 10k too! Seriously questioning my decision making skills here...
