Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

Kim - thanks for the course maps!!

Patty - I will be watching for your race highlights. Since that is in my own backyard, I might want to try it next year. The Austin one sounds great. May have to try that one. What month is it usually held? I was in Austin last weekend for the Warrior Dash. Ran it with 5 friends. We made a road trip of it.

Indygirl - I hate hearing runners act like that! I have thinking about doing some volunteering.

Ran 3.1 miles today.

3M is in January. This year they moved it to the week before Tink, which is why I didn't run it. I wanted to make sure I could actually RUN Tink! The year before it was actually the same week as Tink- but Tink moved up a week and 3M went up 2 weeks- they were trying to accommodate training schedules for the people in town training for the Austin Marathon in Feb. They cap the race at 6K I think- and pretty sure they did not sell out this year (usually do) because they were running it the same weekend as Houston and WDW marathon (not sure if that factored, but thats when it was)

Will have to see when they schedule for next year. If it was 2 weeks before Tink or 2 weeks after, I'd do that one again! :thumbsup2

I'm flying American. Orlando to LAX for $358.......couldn't pass it up.
:woohoo:

LAX to the park is about a 45 min bus ride?

If I plan to fly out on Sunday after I finish the Tink, what would be a good flight time if I were to fly out of LAX. I checked Orange County but all the flights from there have plane changes.

How fast are ya? LOL I think it depends on when they start the race, and how quickly you can finish. It should be an +/- hour to LAX (I think?) Maybe 45 min is closer to the mark.

Just keep in mind the traffic and all it takes is a accident or two to make it even worse. Personally, I would not cut it too close.

There are now six of us flying in on Thursday night. We are flying home on Tuesday. We plan on doing the expo on Friday. Sunday, we run the half and then take in the park for the rest of the day and on Monday.

What do you suggest for Saturday besides having a good pasta dinner? I want to take it easy and rest my legs. We are staying at Stovalls.

If you don't want to go to the parks on Sat., you could go shopping in Downtown Disney and maybe even go to the movies. You would definately be off your feet watching a movie. Stovall's has a couple of pools so you could spend time at the pool and the hot tub. A great place for pasta/pizza (they even deliver but are crazy busy the night before marathons) is Marri's, and it's right up the street on Katella. Nothing fancy but great food. Hope this helps :)

I would make it a mid to late afternoon flight. Don't wanna stress all morning during the race whether you will get there on time. Plus you need to factor in emergencies, traffic, weather, being there the reguired 2 hours early, etc.

Hey....you stole my itinerary!! Expect I'm doing a lot of site seeing since I've never been to Cali. Hermosa Beach on Thursday, Hollywood/EXPO on Friday, 5K on Saturday with a little outlet mall shopping, Half on Sunday with Disneyland, and California Adventure on Monday. Flying back Tuesday early morning. Maybe I will see u since we're staying at the same hotel and all!

What airport are you ladies flying in at? Im considering flying united since I have a 1000 voucher and my fiancé may cover the rest to send me 1st class. However most of their flights come into LAX and aren't non stop, I'd prefer to come in SNA which I can do on American which I am not a super fan of.

Kim- Said there were 14K registered- results show around 11K. I noticed there was a lot of breathing room and room to run on the course- nothing like Disney. I wasn't sure if that was because we had larger roads or if a lot of people stayed home due to weather, or what!

Never had a crowd other than the start and even that separated out really quickly.

That sounds wonderful!

Like already said, you don't want to be rushed or cut it close. I wouldn't book anything before 2pm at the very earliest, that way you have time to finish and get everything together before the shuttle picks you up. Also, even if the race is over at the latest 9am, it could still take a little while for all the traffic aound the park to get back to normal. If you have a flight in mind, you can go online to Super Shuttle and put in your flight info for a quote and they'll show you how early they need to pick you up before you book the flight to see if it works for you.

I am excited to let you all know I picked my "costume" for Tinker. Keep an eye out for the runner sporting the "Arthritis National Research Foundation" Singlet! I have dedicated my next year of training and racing towards a cure for arthritis. I will run as a Warrior with this disease and for this disease! I am super excited to finally be running for the funding and setting an example for people with my disease!

A question - what is the name of the app that you like for your interval timer?

Thanks :cool1:

Seconds Pro- I have an iphone

I usually run my Nike GPS plus music, and then the seconds pro on top of that. I use my garmin as my true distance/pace/etc but like to keep the Nike info adding up since I started there 3 years ago. Old habits are hard to break!

Seconds Pro lets you create your own intervals. So I have a few that I use as needed.

Thanks guys- it was a very positive experience despite the negatives I encountered!

For those of you that have Garmins, which model do you have?

I was looking at the Garmin Forerunner 10, mainly becuase of the price. I just want a GPS feature as I dont run with my iphone. Right now its just my $14.99 timex and I figure out my mileage by doing routes on mapmyrun.

Thanks for the tip on checking Super Shuttle .com first. LAX has more non stop flights than Orange County for me.
