It was hotter than I expected (mid 70s-low 80s) and from Mile 11 or so on, we were pretty much in direct sun the rest of the way, with few shade breaks and on miles of asphalt. So I definitely was overheated, but more so than that, at some point, when I was hot and frustrated, I just sort of gave up on trying my hardest, and walked pretty much the last 10 miles. So, while I'm glad I finished, I know I could have done so much better if I hadn't basically thrown myself a pity party at mile 15, when things stopped going the way I wanted. Yes, the weather was difficult, and the route was inhospitable, but it was mostly horrible because I ended up being so disappointed in myself. My real goal for these races is to not give up on trying my best, not let my frustrations get the best of me if things don't go the way I planned, to keep a good attitude, and to have fun the whole way. Hopefully that will also come with a PR.
