Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

Lots of fellow J people! Yay!

I hope everyone has a good racing weekend. Bottom line is we are in Disney doing something fun. (Fun, lol)

If you're in a far back corral and pass me, say hi! :)

I'm in J as well. Odd, because I turned in a sandbagged 2 hour half for my race time. (They may have pulled my full from the Goofy this year - where I ran the first portion with my wife, which moved me from a fairly easy 4:45 or so to well over 6.)

I'm injured (still!), so I wasn't likely to be too fast, but it seems like a lot of the Dopey runners are in the back corrals. I guess they figure by the time we get to the full, we won't be going too fast. :D

I am in L as well. I am hoping it gives us some league way. Does anyone know how much time there are between coralls?

I'm not sure how they got the Corrals, either. I had a 1:58 half and am in Corral G. Does anyone know how they determine them?

Not sure. My DH is running marathon only. He is in corral E with about a 1:59 half proof of time. Someone else reported that a runner in marathon only (I think) with no proof is in corral K yet I'm running Goofy with a 2:44 half proof and am in corral L.

Seems like if you are in dopey or goofy you may be placed a little further back then if just running marathon or half marathon. Just an observation.

Makes sense to me. I don't know any Dopey runner at least who is gunning for a half or full PR.

And I should also add that I once ran Princess half with a friend who submitted slower proof of time then I did and she was in the corral ahead of me! So, I truly don't know what happens sometimes! :-)

I submitted a 1:51 POT and an estimated finish time of 3:59. I'm in Corral D. I'll be moving back to J for the half to run it with my wife. Depending on how I feel on Sunday and where the 4 hour pace group is located, I may move to a different corral as well. I have no idea where pace groups will be located.

I'm hoping to PR the full as well. And I'm "running" the half with every intention of running the full hard.

I would have to have a complete meltdown not to PR the full, since my first marathon (last summer) went so horribly. :) The only good thing about that race is that I finished.

I know you mentioned that before but what exactly happened in that race that made it so horrible?

I better have a PR in the full by a long shot. The half I want be close to.

Interestingly, I PR'd the half and full in the 2006 Goofy; then the half in the 07, 08 and 09 Goofy's and set a course best in the 2009 Goofy.

It was hotter than I expected (mid 70s-low 80s) and from Mile 11 or so on, we were pretty much in direct sun the rest of the way, with few shade breaks and on miles of asphalt. So I definitely was overheated, but more so than that, at some point, when I was hot and frustrated, I just sort of gave up on trying my hardest, and walked pretty much the last 10 miles. So, while I'm glad I finished, I know I could have done so much better if I hadn't basically thrown myself a pity party at mile 15, when things stopped going the way I wanted. Yes, the weather was difficult, and the route was inhospitable, but it was mostly horrible because I ended up being so disappointed in myself. My real goal for these races is to not give up on trying my best, not let my frustrations get the best of me if things don't go the way I planned, to keep a good attitude, and to have fun the whole way. Hopefully that will also come with a PR.

I hear you on that one...I experienced a melt down of sorts on the full last year at mile 21...which I have talked about a million times on here.

Meanwhile, we have to be mentally prep'd for this because like me, that was your issue. The 2013 marathon weekend was dreadfully hot and I think the hottest day was saved for the full.

I remember stepping out of my room (ground floor) to check the weather and it was about 3am and warm! I thought, oh shugar, if its warm now - what is it going to be like doing 26.2 miles as the day progresses! It made me very nervous.

Needless to say it was hot. Lots of highway miles. Dark pavement, hot sun beathing down...but I managed to stay completely positive and uplifted...until mile 21 and then it went down hill from there.

Like you I too finished the race but I want to have a happier experience this time around.

I want to be the happy runner coming into the finish line around Epcot where guests will say 'wow that looks like fun! I want to do that next year!' This is the goal...aside from finishing injury free of course!

Corral K for me!
And a friend who is going down with a charity group also has corral K! So I won't be running "alone"!:thumbsup2

So, that's corral K for both the Half and the Full Right?

Wondering how it will work for the 5k & 10k?:confused3
I did a Mickey Halloween 5k back in 2010, and while no corral placements nor official recorded times, they did have corrals to allow runners to place themselves as the runner felt appropriate, and there were timing mats as well.
I'm wondering if this will be the same for this 5k & 10k?:confused3

Just a thought.....Those in for Dopey, BIB for proof, would line up in first coral.

McFlurry John

I am in corral J but my running buddy is in K, so we will start in K. Funny, our submitted timers were SO close together, but I don't care, so long as there are corrals behind us for a buffer!
