Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

Do a google search for disney marathon corral placement. It will give you the times for the corral placement for the 2013 half, full, & goofy. A 2:06 half time would have put you in corral B for 2013. Haven't heard of how many corrals or times for 2014 yet.

It was my understanding that there will be more corrals with fewer runners for events starting with the January races.

Does anyone have a good feeling about how many corrals there will be and what type of times corresponds to the first few corrals? Trying to decide if I should try to run a fast ( for me) half before submitting my final POT. The one I used for registration was from a race I ran with friends and did not push at all. 2:06 half. Where does that put me in terms of corrals?

My walking PR of 2:11:12 had me in D corral for this year's Goofy. :confused3 I'll be starting in front of the Balloon Ladies again for the Full and stopping for my McFlurry at McD's plus an O'Doul's while passing through EPCOT. It's all about a fun time, isn't it?

It is all about fun time, but from what I can tell the lines for pics are shorter the faster you are. Is that a valid thought?

I wasnt able to sign up for the dopey's challenge in time before it sold out. I signed up for the goofy's challenge. It will be my first time doing the goofy's challenge. Should I feel disappointed about not being in the dopey's challenge? or is the goofy's race enough to be proud of?

My personal opinion is, if you've kept the faith, trained hard and on race day gave it your all, you should be proud. It shouldn't matter if it's 100 meters or 100 miles. If you're trying to base how proud you are on others opinions of your accomplishments and not how you feel of your own accomplishments, I think you'll be disappointed far more than proud in most things you do in life. My $.02

I think Goofy is a HUGE accomplishment.

Hello everyone,

Some of you might know me, and some might not.. I haven't been on here in a while, but I stay in touch with a lot of WISHers on FB. Anyway, I ran Goofy '10 and '11 but then took a break from racing as I am a horse trainer by profession and I struggled to keep my body healthy enough to do both sports. However, the draw of a new challenge was too much to handle and so I signed up to do the Dopey :scared1:

So my question for you guys is how much training do I have to do (I am sure the question has been brought up a lot on this thread so far, but there is 49 pages and I am lazy:lmao:), my main worry is my body breaking down... Like I said before I ride horses for a living.. I spend about 50 hours on my feet a week and some days ride up to 5 horses.. I also teach and a lot of that foot time is spent walking around an arena. The 50 hours does not include my running time

On the plus side, I am pretty darn fit.. on the negative side i never really get a chance to let my body recover and I cannot afford to break myself.. I don't show up, I don't get paid :offtopic:

Right now I am running Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday but only around the 4-5 mile mark, and if I feel like my body can't do it I don't go. On Mondays and Wednesdays I turn out horses at work and walk none stop for about 4 hours (then ride and teach), On every other day except Sunday I just ride and teach. Sunday is my only day off.

So one question really is, how much running do you think I really need to do to get fit enough to run Dopey, but not break :confused3 I feel like it's a thin line I am walking (or running I guess). I think I would prefer to be a little under trained rather than over, but not too much under that it's impossible to finish! :thumbsup2

My other question would be eating... I literally eat anything I want whenever I want right now and I struggle to get enough *good* calories in a day. I am the thinnest I have ever been and I don't need to lose anymore weight (not underweight but thin), so if any of you have any ideas on what foods will be the best to eat while I train that would be awesome.:woohoo:

Thanks everyone for reading my essay... and hi again to people I haven't talked to before

At the moment I am base building. I start marathon training (for Wineglass) a week from tomorrow. But I'm sort of doing it as if I were training for Dopey. I ran 6.5 Friday, 7 Saturday, and did 14 today. My legs are WIPED, but I'll probably do a short recovery run tomorrow to have my 4 in a row. I'm hoping to do something similar every week but with the long run being the last before a day off.

Every person you tell about doing Goofy will be super impressed. Give it a try. Goofy is a big deal and you should be very proud.

One of the reasons I became involved in this sport is the camaraderie. I saw that it did not matter whether you were at the front or the back, no one looked down upon you. You were a marathoner. To me the same is true about the multi-race format. Whether its the marathon, Goofy, or Dopey, all are great accomplishments in and of themselves. Just run strong and run proud.

Just wanted to say hi! I'm doing the Dopey as well, and Wine and Dine, my family thinks I'm crazy! Quick question since I didn't see it on the rundisney page....Are all the hotels host hotels? I couldn't find a list like they had for wine and dine....

Yep, marathon weekend = all resorts.

The Goofy Challenge is a very BIG accomplishment! A Half followed by a Full? Not too many runners would do something like that (other than us crazy runners like Marathon Maniacs). I say, train well, avoid injury, and enjoy the experience. The Dopey is certainly a major challenge as well but it does not in any way diminish the significance of completing 39.3!

I'd need to go sub 4:00 to PR the marathon, which might happen.

But the half I'd have to go 1:38, which definitely ISN'T happening the day before the marathon.

I'm treating the 10K as an easy training run. I may let loose for the 5K though. But I've never had a good 5K race, so why would this be any different? :rotfl:

Last Sunday, I found the key to having a good 5K.

Swim 400m and ride 20K before starting the 5K.

I just ran my first 20-miler, in training for my first marathon in 3 weeks. And now I want to die. LOL.

Although I'm confident I'll be able to finish the marathon in 3 weeks, I am SO glad that I have 6 more months to work up to the back-to-back-to-back-to-back of Dopey, and that I will have already completed one full marathon at that point.

I did some back to back races this spring... a 5k and 4 miler this past weekend and and a 10k and 15k back in April.

I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like by the time I get to the marathon I'm going to be dragging myself to each mile marker...Am I alone in wishing the marathon was first and the distance just kept getting shorter?

Oh, that would be a horrible plan, IMO. For anyone who has done the training for a marathon (let alone a Goofy Challenge or more), doing a 5k and 10k
should be drops in the bucket. :cool1: Those distances shouldn't be bad at all. Even the 1/2 marathon isn't so bad (given how many times you will have run
longer than that in training). But the marathon is exponentially more difficult. :scared1: You will NOT want to run again the next day after the marathon,
and in the vast majority of cases certainly wouldn't have enough energy to do a 1/2 marathon.

I think the biggest issue will be trying to properly judge the amount of sleep (and, to a slightly lesser extent, nutrition) you need preceding each race,
given the excessively early hours for each of them. Two days in a row that early -- manageable. But four for the Dopey? This is going to be an interesting trip. :cool2:

Not so sure I could get back out and run again after 26.2. That's quite a beating before heading into 13.1. I had a similar thought before my first Goofy. Afterwards, no way! Knowing 26.2 is the last step before your Goofy/Dopey medal really pulls you through.
