Official 2014 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Do you specifically want to do the Disneyland half or are you just trying to get your C2C medal? I only ask because if you don't care which race you do, you might want to sign up for the new Avengers 1/2 instead. You won't need to worry about going through a travel agent or anything. :)

Both, lol! I 'm not really interested in the Avengers. Thor and Captain America are the only ones I like. If worst come to worse I'll take the Avengers just to get the C2C done.

for those interested in the DL half, several of the travel agencies listed on runDisney's site still have bibs left.

We are leaving on Labor Day after the half on Sunday. I was looking at flights to SNA, but LAX is significantly cheaper. If we fly out at 11:30, how long do we need to allow to get to LAX. Is rush hour shorter on Labor Day?:confused3

It's really only about a 40 min drive, so I would allow an hour. The freeways you'll be taking aren't particularly popular routes even on weekday mornings because most are headed North into LA and you'll be traveling mostly West. Depending on your airline and whether or not anyone has airline status or TSA precheck, security can be a real monster as well, so safest bet is probably arriving at the airport 2 hours before flight time, especially if checking bags. If not checking bags, with boarding passes from checking in online, and with precheck, 1 hour prior to departure is fine.

only other issue though is that LAX is going through a lot of construction at this time and probably won't be done by labor day. With that being said, we were at LAX in March, leaving on a Sunday afternoon and it didn't take long to get there and we had planty of time at our gate. we left the hotel 3 hours before our flight was scheduled to depart.

A dynamic of Disneyland that we have noticed (with Memorial Day and Columbus Day) is that a very large number of people leave ON the holiday Monday. This is lovely when you are in the parks, but it might not seem all that great when you're one of the ones leaving.

But will those people clogs the roads like a typical rush hour? Seems doubtful.

I know I'm late to the party but I wanted to join in! I'm finally officially Registered for the DUmbo Double Dare! :dumbo: and My Husband will be completing the Half Marathon with me! It will be his first HM and our first trip to DL! We're super excited!

I can't believe it's time to start planning the travel for this one! Anyone have any hotel recs? I'm probably booking through travelocity or orbitz, since I won't be getting park tickets this trip (unless I win the lottery or something).

With no park tickets, I need a hotel with a decent pool...any thoughts?

Was reading longhorns2 blog and she was talking about that rundisney will no longer let other people pick up bibs other than the person actually registered. Anybody else hear or read about the news ?

It's now on the RunDisney page with the race information.

on the topic of Disneyland and LAX...anyone have recommendations for a shuttle company? I don't really want to rent a car if I don't have to, we would really only use it for traveling to and from LAX.

We used Supershuttle last time we were there. No complaints. In fact, I plan to use them again on this trip.

Yep. They've changed it now. Retroactively for Disneyland Half, TOT and Wine&Dine. IMO it's fine for them to do it for races that haven't had registration yet (like Avengers) but it's not cool to do it for races people have already signed up for with the understanding that someone else can pick up the bib.

I personally like Karmel Shuttle more than Disneyland Resort Express or Super Shuttle.

As of 12:34pm today runDisney has revised their policy again.
Packet Pick-Up Policy Update
FROM the runDisney Official Blog

"We recently updated the Packet Pick-Up Policy for all runDisney events. In listening to your feedback after runDisney.com was updated, we understand it has caused travel concerns for some of our upcoming events that were already on sale or sold out.

To help you plan for these upcoming events and address your concerns around travel, we have delayed the implementation of the new policy for events that are already publicly on-sale.

The original Packet Pick-Up Policy is in effect for the following events, allowing you to pick-up packets for other runners using the appropriate Packet Pick-Up Authorization Form:
•Expedition Everest® Challenge
•Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend
•The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10 Miler Weekend
•Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

The new Packet Pick-Up policy, requiring all runners to pick up their own packets goes into effect starting with the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland® Resort in November. This policy will also be in place for all runDisney events moving forward.

Thank you for your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you soon at a runDisney race!

Yay for runDisney folks for listening to everyone.

Good for them! Excellent.

Now maybe I don't have to torture my brother with two trips up to Anaheim from San Diego, LOL and can just pick up his bib for him.

Are all the hotels within walking distance of the corrals sold out already? This is my first rundisney race and I'm looking for a hotel to stay at for myself and my girlfriends coming with. Any ideas?
