Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

I am running both. This is the first race weekend where I am running all non-kiddo races. My plans were to wait for the marathon weekend and run all of 2014’s races but then decided to start the streak this weekend. I am starting in F and will dress as an old guy runner with gray hair, white top and black shorts. To complete the look, I will also have a slightly pudgy look. I only hope that I am not stopped as the mask I will have is tightly attached (well, not as tight as when I was 30).

Without looking back, are there any meet ups planned? I know that this is a short weekend in and out for most and that if wet, most folks will not be in the mood for a gathering. We were planning on staying on site for the race then decided a week ago to ditch the plan so I am not staying very long at the bash, either.

Does anyone listen to music during the race? I know it says they suggest no headphones but do people wear them?

I've realized I simply cannot actively listen to music while running, so I don't wear them.

As a side note, a good friend moved to Orlando in early 2003; the year of the three-peat hurricane. My emergency plans are based on his observations in the aftermath the three events. He said that after one of the storms passed it was pitch block with the exception of a glow to his east. They hopped in a car to find Disney illuminated and all the resorts with full power. Makes sense as the property is self generating and all electric lines are underground. Our plan is to make reservations anywhere on property that we can (assuming lots of late cancellations), secure Chateau de Wait and move in for a week.

Now this will never work since I have published it.

My cousins and aunt live in Daytona, and WDW *is* their emergency plan.

:)

Aw, not staying long for the party? I hope we'll be able to spend some time there. Well, hubby and son will have had at least 2 hours playing there, but I guess I hope I will be able to play some. Going by my training runs, that's definitely not a given!

i do. but i'm used to only having one side in because my kids often ride their bikes with me while i run (and i'm often pushing a stroller too). i like to be able to hear them if they talk to me, but i also love the rhythm of the music. i keep it turned pretty low.

Who is running in the ToT 10 or 5k? Or both?
10 Miler, corral G.

Yep - I only use one earbud, though.

I almost never listen to music on any of my runs, but I've seen -- and heard -- people listening ot music during the races. RunDisney advises against it so that you can hear when they have audio directions about the course narrowing or inclines/declines, etc. ahead on the course.

Who ran 4+ miles this weekend without any significant pain? I did! :yay::yay::yay: Think 10 miles is finally looking possible :thumbsup2

About storm prep...

I lived through Hurricane Hugo back in '89. We evacuated inland from our barrier island house - our house was pushed 20ft off its foundation by storm surge. Staying with friends inland, we had no power or sewage for weeks, had to boil water all day and night for washing and drinking and spent days sawing apart trees that had crushed roofs and cars. It truly scarred me for life. I now live 4 miles from the Gulf coast in FL - WDW is my evacuation destination for small storms. (I'm outta the state if a big one comes along.)

I did a 10-miler training run in a small named storm last summer - shin-deep water and rain so hard it hurt my head. Not ideal conditions, but do-able, lol! I run in the rain a lot down here and totally agree with Coach's list. Key for me are clothes that don't hold water, a brimmed hat and my Smartwool socks. Also, plastic cling wrap for my iPhone and ziplocs for fuel - wet chews aren't fun in a waist belt. I have a $1 poncho and old umbrella packed for pre-race, just in case.

First, I'm so glad you had a decent run!

You just reminded me that I could actually take the phone out of the lifeproof case and do something else to keep it safe from water. That would help it take up less space. (I'm still wondering why I want to bring it, since I now have a Garmin (won't be using the endomondo app), surely the race people could phone DH if I fall or something, and I won't use it for music)

Good point about keeping the chews dry! And...I gotta get more margarita shotbloks!

Also the cheapie poncho is a good idea.

Do you run in the smartwool, or just use them prerace if it's raining? Might have to run up to roadrunner again.

The above is in BOTH verbal and signed warnings and I have seen a face plant during every race weekend where we cross a toll plaza.

It will be either music or the latest DISunplugged podcast i have not listened to and it will be on low volume.

Thank you! :goodvibes It wasn't perfect, but it was so nice to actually move again!

They're my all the time running socks :thumbsup2 I like the PhD Ultra-Light micro. They keep my feet comfortable in hot, cold, wet and dry!

::yes:: A good friend of mine laughed about the announcement at the WDW Half a couple years ago... and then tripped over the speed bump, herself. :rotfl: I think of her every time we go through those sections. ;)

After running a 5k on saturday and being sore, it's almost as if the running..healed my injured leg? I had been off it for a few weeks with some pain daily. But right now it hardly hurts at all. I think I am ready for the race!! But now all this talk about possible rain gives me something else to worry about. My race costume shirt is white...:rotfl:

TOT 10 miler for me, corral G. I'll be wearing black shorts, pink the dye compression sleeves, pink and white striped tank, glow in the dark bracelets and some neon green in my hair. Hair will be in pony tail. I'll be following Princess V for 2 reasons: I can't see so good at night and the Florida gals have to represent!! LOL. Stop by and say hi!

How do I find out what corral I will be placed in? I assumed I wouldn't find out until I pick up my packet, but many of you seem to already know. This is my first race EVER, but I recorded that I would run about 2:01. (ran 1;47 a couple weeks ago so I don't want to be in the last corral.)

Go to the runDisney page to find/print your race waiver. You will see your bib# on the waiver. Then look at runDisney TOT page for Corral placement; open file and match bib# to corral.

I'll either be in corral D or E. My friend and I both have the same proof of time but for some reason she put down a later expected time than I did. We're going to try to see if she can be moved up to D with me. If not, then I'll go to E with her.

We'll be dressed up as Rainbow Brite :)

I've run in several tropical storms here (the latest, Tropical Storm Andrea...I had to run in my own storm!) Sometimes it doesn't even rain that much during the storm, and during that one, I didn't get wet at all!

Thanks! Would have never figured that out without those detailed instructions.

We are planning on getting a room at Beach Club for Saturday night. I am still undecided on my outfit/costume, it is dependent on the weather. I am in A and hoping for a better performance from myself than last year.
