Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

We were talking Disney in the middle of the IT band part of the session. Just not 100% sure what was discussed. I recall giving out passwords to my checking account about that time as well.

Dang, that was a good massage. :)

This feels a little awkward but I wish all who are traveling in this week safe travels. The F&W festival started today, play lightly with the W part until post race. Stay hydrated if coming early as you will lose hydration while out in the weather.

Again, have a safe trip in and we'll see you Saturday night

Coach, it's going to be a big change for you not having to stay in a Disney hotel for a Disney Race?

Thanks everyone for the motivation, coach you are awesome! I agree the weather is beautiful today, it's supposed to stick around for a little bit. I am super excited :rotfl: we leave tomorrow night for Fort Wilderness, I love just being there and I can't wait to run :cloud9: peacefully there. Hope everyone has a safe trip!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies to my question about being swept. Coach- thank you very much for all of your encouragement. I am far from being in shape for the race. I have the endurance to accomplish the distance but my pace is pretty slow. I am going to be there and going to absolutely try my very very best. This is my first run at Disney. I have done quite a few 5Ks. Pretty much walked them all. Since we live in Jacksonville we come to Walt Disney World often and walk as much as we can. The most we have done in a weekend is 28 miles. Of course its not running, jogging or fast walking (cause 15 min miles are pretty fast for me). I really wish I would have stuck to the training schedule and felt confident about being able to finish but thats ok. We are where we are and I will come back no matter what happens.

Thank you again everyone. See you on saturday!
Jasmin. :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:

Dominda, I too have similar concerns. I can definitely do the distance, and am really close to the 16 min mile at the end avg. but start faster. I walk /runmwith my friend and we probably talk more than we will on the actual race day. I am counting on the excitement and encouragement of others to finish.

If anyone is looking for me, I am the heavier set person in the back wearing 2xu compression pants, and a teal sweatband. I haven't decided Between my purple shirt or my pink run like an animal shirt.

Everyone say a prayer that the tropical system they're predicting to go across central Florida next weekend either stays away from WDW or moves really fast!

Sadly, this popped up this weekend...

The likelihood of the area forming a storm is still considered remote. However, regardless of the formation, the energy with the area will more than likely attach itself to the front currently bisecting the country. That could pull the energy and associated rain up into the peninsula.

Rain chances have increased over the last few hours. I think it a possibility that the trail section of the 10-miler may be a little less than dry.

As a general reminder, the race will go on rain or moonshine. The only reason it would be cancelled for weather would be if a) lightning were in the area (see flash bang rule on the website) or b), the area did turn tropical and it was deemed unsafe to be out and about. I would think it would have to turn into a named storm and even then have a centerline track close to the area.

So the bottom line, think about your wet weather dress. Here are my thoughts....

1 - Bring a large plastic trash sack in your bag. It will serve as a great pre-race poncho in case of rain. Note that I would not wear the bag very far into the race as you will easily overheat.

2- Bring a billed hat or visor. If raining, you really want to keep the rain from directly hitting your face.

3- Look for a set of lace locks. Wet shoe laces will want to come untied more often. The lace locks will help keep that from happening.

4- Wear tech fabric. Top, shorts and socks. Cotton will not be your friend on a rainy run as it turns heavy and abrasive.

5- The parks will be the sloppiest part of the run. The pathways pond much more readily than the roadways. Shorten the point where you are looking at the road and try to avoid puddles. I watch the runner's feet and hips just in front of me. You can usually tell when they hit a bad spot, avoid that spot.

6- Avoid - again avoid running along painted lines in the road. The reflective beads in the paint are super slick when wet.

7- Bring a checked gear bag with a complete set of dry clothing.

8- Runner's Lube. If carrying a fanny pack, bring a small sample size lube for mid race application.

9- Bring some duct tape. Simply run a strip across the top of the shoe for the staging area. Once the gun fired, pull the tape off. It will keep the feet just a little drier during the wait for the start.

10- [ADDED] for those who may be running the double, make sure to have shoes for both the 5k and the 10 miler. More than likely, the 5k shoes will not survive a rainy cross country run and be dry by evening.

Hope this helps and I really hope the front blows through here by Wednesday.

I am in Corral I, will be with my hubby in black capris and a pink glow in the dark cheshire cat shirt. I am encouraging my hubby to leave me and get his medal. Plus he is a foot taller than me and I always feel like im slowing him down. Hopefully I will find a group of people that I can keep pace with. Im nervous and excited. Really hoping the tropical depression is long gone by Saturday.

Currently, the three large private weather services have the low Sunday morning in the 71-72F range. Guessing, that makes the race temperatures to start off in the mid 70’s. The dew point temps will also be higher now that moisture seems likely. I would expect the ‘feels like’ temperatures to be just above the actual temperatures based in the moisture in the air. There will be little wind to speak of.

With regard to rain, the private services are not really forecasting a higher percentage of rain this morning. The NWS forecast discussion is puzzled by the area in the Caribbean and not sure what is happening with the energy in the area. Regardless of what you hear from the TV folks, the likelihood of the area developing into a tropical system is still low over the next 5 days. In many ways, that is not good from a rain aspect. The models have the area moving somewhere between west, north and east of its current location. In other words, there is nothing in the area to drive it so the certainty of the models is low.

It will rain in the greater Orlando area this week and possibly into the weekend. The moisture in the air will raise dew point temperatures. Expect to run in the rain this wekend and be pleasantly surprised when the track is nice, dry and cool. Throwing a little pixie dust out to dry up the rain.

Good luck everyone! Here's to no injuries, everyone finishes and doesn't get swept and enjoys the festivities afterward!:drinking1

I'm so mad about the rain. Now I'm second guessing brining down my running skirt and t-shirt that I made for the race.

Rain, rain go away. Come again some other day....

10 miler here Corral D - hopefully wearing a orange, green, purple and black with spider webs skirt, and a black shirt that says "Race You To The Tower" on the back.

Please say hello if you see me!! :wave2:

My sister and I are in the 10 mile. Corral H. Contrary to others i love being in tropical storms. Of course being without power for a couple of weeks is not fun but i love watching nature do its thing.

Doing the 10.

Right now I'm in J but that should change at the expo.

I'm either wearing bright pink shorts and a grey and pink tank OR a dark blue running skirt with lighter blue top and a blue waist pack . My hair will be in a bun and I'll be carrying a water bottle. :)

i'm in the 10-miler, corral D. i will be running as Zero (ghost dog from Nightmare Before Christmas), weather permitting.

I'm running both. I'm currently in Corral D but have a 10K time that will put me in Corral C to submit. Not sure if it's worth it though as my PF has really started to flare up! I will be the one limping along in magenta running skorts and a gray tank top.

I can't believe the race is so close!

Does anyone listen to music during the race? I know it says they suggest no headphones but do people wear them?

My fiancee and I are doing the 10 Miler and running out of Corral F. We're still scrambling to try and have Lilo & Stitch costumes together before our flights on Friday. If they come together, we're going to try and have some sort of bell hop aspect to it. Not sure if it will get done or not since we've been scrambling to get everything in place since registering only a couple weeks ago!

I almost never listen to music on any of my runs, but I've seen -- and heard -- people listening ot music during the races. RunDisney advises against it so that you can hear when they have audio directions about the course narrowing or inclines/declines, etc. ahead on the course. Also so you can hear other runners if they're trying to make you aware of them passing on the left or right. I think you should be fine if you want to listen to music; maybe just don't blast it so loud that you can't pick up on your surroundings as well.

I was going to say that above but I didn't want to freak folks out. I have survived a few events and find that running just after the center passes is nice and refreshing. Most of the rain is cool, has little to no lighting and has a refreshing breeze. Of course, if one was near the wind part of the storm one wants to wait for daylight to avoid things like trees, boards, nails, cars, out buildings….

As a side note, a good friend moved to Orlando in early 2003; the year of the three-peat hurricane. My emergency plans are based on his observations in the aftermath the three events. He said that after one of the storms passed it was pitch block with the exception of a glow to his east. They hopped in a car to find Disney illuminated and all the resorts with full power. Makes sense as the property is self generating and all electric lines are underground. Our plan is to make reservations anywhere on property that we can (assuming lots of late cancellations), secure Chateau de Wait and move in for a week.

Now this will never work since I have published it.

Over half the folks will wear them. I suggest leaving volume down if you elect to wear them as the course is crowded (you want to hear me saying on your right and thanks) and there are audio instructions set up in certain spots (Speed Bump Ahead).
