Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Well my broken toe has made running too painful. I was just not going to do the race. But I will walk jog it the best I can. I also have the 5k with my kid.
If I get swept at the 10 miler. I will be sad. I am not a runner but I liked the idea of Disney world races since I love Disney world so much.

I wanted to wish everyone good luck at the race. We are leaving soon for Disney world. I am so happy.

Great attitude and good luck!!

And I agree - even a bad Disney race is still a DISNEY race, is what I'm figuring. Even if I get swept - I'll console myself with a week in WDW!

I'm so sad. I've been training for the 10-miler for months, and now I won't be able to do it.

I did the Disneyland 10K Aug. 31 and, about halfway through the race, I planted wrong and had horrible pain. I hobbled on to the finish line but went to the doctor when I got home. I have a partial Achilles tear, as well as a couple of other issues. I began physical therapy Thursday, and therapist told me in very clear terms that I can't do the 10-miler.

I'm really bummed. I did the 10-miler last year without training and was swept at mile 7. So it was really important to me to train and finish this year.

Oh well. I'm keeping my eyes on the prize. I'm registered for the Princess half in February. That will be my first half, and I want to be back and stronger than ever for that one!

Good luck to all of you. I'll still be at the race cheering on my husband -- just from the sidelines.

Sorry to hear the news. It's better to not run through a significant injury than to push it into a larger one. I know that does not help much but heal up and be stronger for the PHM.

Work with your PT on getting a long term stretching and workout program in place. It's amazing what a few changes can do to loosen up the calves.

Awww - something to look forward to for next year! and at least you have another goal PHM! Very cool...take care!

Is there a listing somewhere with characters who will be on course?

I can't find the answer to this but thought I had seen something...I would like to know as well...how many "fun" picture stops are there? Depending on my time, I may have skip some and wouldn't want to by-pass someone special.

The maps are cool but I didn't understand the end - the runners are red, right (page 10 bottom picture)?

My sister signed us up - got the waiver email and I am not in the system:rotfl: so email runDisney and they say maybe the date of birth is wrong. Emailed them back, said yes - you have the wrong DOB....waiting for them to respond that they corrected it. Should I be worried? I figured she has the confirmation and I am getting the emails so I should be registered, right? We leave Friday!!!! and if I can print it at the expo, I am just not gonna worry about it.....

Gonna do 4 mile on Monday - 8 miles on Tuesday and a 4 mile on Wednesday. Nothing on thursday or friday....I gotta pack and then we leave!!!!:yay::yay:

First stop Disney cruise - will be walking on the ship....Second stop WDW - MNSSHP and Food & Wine (walking, walking and walking - at POR, so they have a walking trail there and I have down time scheduled so while the laundry is going, I will be walking the trails and then TOT!!!!

Getting excited just to get there!

There is no official list of characters. This vid shows a few of the locations.

With regard to the map, yes runners come up the back stage road through the finish then loop around then Fantasmic area and come on stage at the ToT entrance to Fantasmic. That is where your spectators can first meet up with you pos race.

Just did a 5K at ZooMiami and the humidity was off the charts,a light rain literally started as they were counting down to the start and lasted for a couple of minutes to add to the humidity.I think between the rain and humidity and that I did the race in like 2 minutes per mile faster than my normal long distance pace I was drenched in sweat like never before, even running the full Disney marathon this year I probably only sweated like a small percentage of how much I did here.I'm hoping ToT won't be as bad and I'm definitely going out at a slower pace for it,there were too many people in this race today that were out to do 6 minute miles that influenced me to go faster than usual, and I did given that it's only a 5K.

:) Must be the day for dramatic starts; I did a 10K this morning where there was a huge thunderclap just as they were about to start. I'm just not used to such things here in WA, and many others are in agreement with me, so there was a lot of laughter! And then it started to drizzle.

Now I need to figure out if my time today will move me up in corrals! (of course, 60s and cold drizzle is hardly what our weather conditions will be next month, LOL)

We got thunder as well, the first one a couple of minutes after the start and pretty much throughout the race.Definitely not unusual for us but it did mess up my day at the zoo included with race registration,we weren't going in with that kind of weather, being soaked in sweat didn't help either.

I'll be running the 5K. Not conditioned enough for the 10 miler yet. Does anyone know if breakfast is served earlier for race days at host resorts? I may have family heading up with me and they will not make due on just a nutrition bar or shake.

Generally, no. The Half and Full in January as well as PHM have that but the 5 k does not.

Ran a 5k yesterday morning... Not a great performance at all. Went out this AM for a 7-8 miler and punted around mile 5. Dew points were nearing 80 when I went out.

Thanks for the response. Good luck to everyone participating! :-)

Did 10 miles outside today. 90+ at 9AM here in Ft Worth, TX. Finished the first 5 at a 15 min avg pace, ended at just over 16 min mile even. I am ready for things to cool down. Goal is to speed up over these last few weekends.

Thanks for the vid link....

Okay - I gotta go relook at the map - and get my bearings. I think I am getting confused where everything is...will check out the HS map online and compare. Trying to decide on a place to meet if my sister decides to ditch me on the route or if I get...you know. Thanks

Take a quick walk through the park pre-race. Pick out a location away from the area where runners dump out into the park (e.g. in front of ToT).

Call me crazy but.....beautiful weather and my running partner and I were in town for the same weekend for once, so we bumped up our 13mi (training for WDW Marathon) to this weekend. My 9 & 11 milers went so well I was honestly waiting for the other foot to drop and it did - I ran out of energy around mile 8 and had to walk most of the way home. However, this is now my "low score" and know I can do better than that with no problem. Also reminded me that no matter how cool it is, hydration and fuel are very very important! Bring on the ToT (after one more long run that is!)

Two firsts for me last night... first time running 12mi, and first time doing a long run at night!

While I will never be Speedy Gonzales (!!!), my sister and I finished with a better pace than our 11-miler the week before, and feeling really good -- no major issues from my cranky knee or hip, and I think I finally figured out a fuel/hydration strategy that really worked for me.

Feels great to have gone from never running back in April to this point. Managed in no small part because of the helpful advice here -- THANK YOU, GUYS!!! :)
