Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

We're in! We ran last year and loved it - well, it could have been a bit less humid. I love night races since we train at night it feels normal to us. Have our DVC room and now we're all set to go. Thank goodness for our DVC. In our case, we couldn't do these races if we didn't have it.

FYI, they're showing SSR and OKW as host DVC resorts this year...

I didn't do a costume last year - just a Team Sparkle skirt with my Badass Mother Runner shirt. I'm leaning toward a Happy Haunt this year: white tech shirt (frayed and torn some), white Team Sparkle skirt, fake cobwebs... It's HOT and HUMID down here in early Oct., so it has to be something made of tech materials and minimal clothing.

Happy Haunt and Rainbow Brite are awesome cosutme ideas!

I think I'm going to steal the ToT bellhop idea but make it sparkly and involve a tutu. I've got some time to figure it out in my head! lol

I'm so bummed they changed the date. :( I really wanted to do it again (it's my one shot at being legacy on a Disney race), but at my part-time job, they instituted a new "rule" (I'm really considering calling the employee helpline/hotline to see if they're allowed to do this) that we can only request off for one weekend a month, and I'm already committed to the Hartford Marathon the following weekend.

I just registered :) Now I just have to figure out the logistics of the trip. Hopefully I can find someone to go with me since having a room mate will cut down on cost.

I registered yesterday about 12:30 Eastern time. I didn't get a confirmation email from active.com but I did take a screen shot of my final screen that said "Congratulations! You're registered!" And I believe it gives me a confirmation number. Should I be concerned?

I think I want to do this but I have a ton of questions. For starters…

How quickly will this race and after-party sell out? (is it a matter of days, weeks, months?)

The site says the party goes until 4:00 a.m.; is the whole park open for that whole time? Are all of the rides operational or just certain ones?

Are food and drinks included in the ticket price? How about alcoholic beverages?

We didn't get one either. I was able to go to the rundisney site, select ToT and check my registration status. It says we're registered and that it has sent an email yet we haven't receive one. Not sure why the emails aren't being sent. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for posting that! I can see BW is NOT one this year. Not such a big deal I suppose, you could just walk over to YC/BC to get the bus.

Don't know whether to book SSR or wait a couple of week to see if BC is availible.

I believe it sold out in April of last year, but races seem to be filling quickly this year...

From what I saw, everything was open, excepting maybe minor things like One Man's Dream. The headliners were all operating: TOT, RnR, Star Tours, TSM, etc.

Nope and nope. They did give out the usual box o' snacks at the finish, along with water and Powerade, but that's it. Booze was readily available at many carts and makeshift bars, but not free.

I won't be running this year as I am planning on the Wine and Dine instead, but wanted to throw in another alternative hotel that worked great for me last year - Swan and Dolphin.

Full disclosure: When we go to WDW we stay with our son who lives behind MK. Thought we were going to have DH drop me off at DHS for race start, then come back, park at DHS and join me for party at appropriate time based on my anticipated finish.

Then I saw that runners could not be dropped off and parking was not going to be available at all at DHS, but rather drop off and parking were at WWOS and then bus to DHS. I was not a happy camper. I am not a fan of Disney transportation and this would not be easy for DH either as the driver.

Decided to look at costs for one night in a Boardwalk area hotel so we could walk to DHS along the path.

Swan and Dolphin had a AAA rate and was WAY cheaper than the Disney hotels. Who knows what prices will be this year, but I think it is definitely worth exploring.

On race day, we had an easy check-in, leisurely afternoon and a light dinner together before it was time for me to head over. As planned, DH made his stroll over later in the evening to meet me at the finish and enjoy the bash. A leisurely stroll back to the hotel around 2:30 finished our race day.

I found this to be a no stress alternative based on my preferences and would definitely do it again.

disneycouple99 and mickeysgal: I followed the link and it only found my registration for DDD. Yikes! I called Run Disney and got it all straightened out. They said Active is having trouble processing emails now but Track Shack can confirm over the phone. Their number is 407-896-1160. :) whew!!!

May be a silly question but do they participate in dme? They do have reg Disney park transportation.. Right? I wonder if this could be a good option for my group.... But we need dme and bus to parks

Aww thanks guys :goodvibes

Last year I decided on Minnie Mouse because that was my absolute fave Halloween costume as a kid!! If I remember I will take a pic of my scrapbook page that shows me as a kid as Minnie, and me running in the race as Minnie! It is super cute :goodvibes

So, keeping with the whole 80's vibe, that is when I decided on Rainbow Brite :thumbsup2 Then in 2014 for the Tink, I'm going as Tink (duh LOL), and for the 2014 Wine and Dine for my coast-2-coast I am seriously thinking of Sailor Moon!! (Isn't it so sad I have my costumes planned out that far?? LOL)

I hope to have a little time this weekend to play around with my rainbow socks- I haven't wanted to do anything until I was officially registered ;)

I would love to see pics of the costumes for sure! And when you get your Rainbow Brite one done too :)

I dont know about the DME, but they do have park transportation. When we stayed at BW in Dec, the busses went to BW first, then Swan & Dolphin for pick ups.

It aggravates me that we have to pay that processing fee and we can't get a simple confirmation email.

Well, not that anyone asked for my opinion, but I ran this race last year and won't be doing it again....especially with that price increase. I thought it was not nearly as pretty as the princess 1/2 run, also realized I hate night running (would rather wake up at 2am for the morning race) and it was so anticlimatic with the characters and theming. I hope they make it nicer this year and also that it's not so hot and humid (I am a Floridian but it was stagnant humidity!) The kids races were fun, though, and if the 5k is not at the WWoS, I may do that.

Have fun, all!!! :thumbsup2

Hopefully this works, it's been a long time since I've used photobucket ;)

This is the first page of my TOT scrapbook, me at about 7/8 years old for Halloween- it was my fave Halloween costume EVER! My mom hand-made it for me and I wore it 2 or 3 years!! And me in my Minnie outfit for the race!! Notice I trained in yellow sneaks :goodvibes

I promise to post pics as Rainbow Brite comes together :thumbsup2

OK, and this shows my costume- this is pre-race in the hallway at the Poly :thumbsup2
