Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Links appeared a few minutes ago for Final Race Instructions. Links didn't work initially, but do now (at least did for me a minute ago).

Hopefully waivers sometime soon

Official race program is up as well...

I bet the corals are smaller though. If you look at the start times the first ones are only a couple minutes apart. With 4 corals I was truly hoping to be in b... Now I will be happy to be in d. With b though I figured I would stay to the back. I bet with fewer people in corals (in theory). Maybe there won't be such a need to watch where I position myself within the coral.

J? Wow! How many runners do you think are participating?

I wonder that too. Last year was about 10k. Phm had many more corals, but it still worked out to be about 2000 or 2500 per coral. )just like at tot). I guess there could still be that many per coral- but since start times are just 2 minutes apart, I doubt it. With 10 corals if there were about 1000 per coral the total would still be about 10k

NOTHING NEW BEFORE A RACE!!!!! When will I get that through my dense head?! :rolleyes2

Good reminder for us all!

I recently met the owner of a local yoga studio and she's having an open house next weekend. I was thinking of a class (free!) but now I'm rethinking that. It would definitely be a new thing for me, so I should refrain. Having the new shoes and new inserts is new enough!

Isn't it great to have a good chiro? I'm starting to think of asking mine to travel with us for the TOT. OK so he doesn't have a license in FL, but maybe he could just not charge me or my Dis friends. :) (they have a new baby and he wouldn't do it, but it's a nice little dream to have)

I'm even excited that we get in early enough that we can use DME to its full advantage so no one's needing to drag heavy suitcases anywhere! If it's a repeat of Feb, DH will hurt himself so I'd have to do the heavy lifting (literally), and that wouldn't be OK.

I am glad to see the increase in corrals, this hopefully will also show at marathon and all other races, maybe 18 corrals there. I would rather have 2 minute intervals with more corrals.

Disney indicated at the opening of registration for the 2014 marathon weekend that they promised more and smaller corrals.

I expect 1000 +/- per corral... think RnR Marathons the major competitor

Carolyn, you ROCK! Thanks so much for that - I needed it! Yep, I foam roll religiously - before and after every run, twice daily even if I don't run. Sometimes thrice, for good measure. :rotfl: I went to my chiro this morning and my right hip was WAY out of alignment; just having her jam it back into place relived a lot of tension in my ITB. I've been "off" ever since a very long, intensive yoga session last week and I suspect the resulting tightness, plus my sprained LCL plus new, - albeit better - shoes was just the wrong combination of stuff at the wrong time. NOTHING NEW BEFORE A RACE!!!!! When will I get that through my dense head?! :rolleyes2

Thanks to YOU! :) :goodvibes

Hmmm... so basically, you're doing everything humanly possible... frustrating!! :(

I've never been to a chiropractor -- I know some people who definitely swear by them. Have you ever tried a physical therapist? I have an awesome one who I've been to for various issues, who also does trigger point needling. The latter has been AWESOME and loosening up some perpetually tight muscles I have that throw everything off at times. Just a thought... if you're ever thinking about trying something different. :goodvibes

Another rolling option might be worth looking into. My trainer has been rolling my legs with what basically looks like a short broom handle about 12-15 inches long. First time he did my calves I thought I was going to cry. After that the calves have been good...but my outer thighs/ITB he has done 2-3 times and they still hurt. I can definitely feel a difference in the tightness after he's done.

My guess is there is a way to DIY but probably better to find someone to help you with this one.

Yes, I do that as well. I use this: https://www.thestick.com. Found it originally through running websites talking about IT band issues, and physical therapist said it was great to use in addition to the foam roller.

I lived with shin splints and some sort of side leg pain after every race - knock on wood, since I started swimming once a week, doing Galloway and acupuncture (call me totally crazy), I've so far run 11 mi with no pain. I did the acupuncture with regular running and it helped, but I swear swimming, just -0 laps once a week really stretches and aligns everything into place.

They do expect we'll read these things, right?

Logistics: Read over the race day instruction sheet several times, during the 4 weeks before the race. This will help you mentally prepare and rehearse what you will be doing on October 1st.

Not quite 4 full weeks, and what exactly are we doing on October 1st? I'll be in WA, packing.

kmchisholm I won't call you crazy! In fact you've reminded me that I've been distinctly lacking the acupuncture visits I got used to at the beginning of this year! Thanks for the reminder! I wish swimming did that for me...but I'm not a face-under-the-water person, so swimming makes my neck hurt since I crane it up out of the water.

I got my post-race dress. I know, that is SUPER-important. :) Clearance on roadrunnersports.com, by PrAna, a-line, goes on fairly easy (though ask me again after midnight Oct 6). Hope it will work in action!

Now I have to order my new Crocs flipflops (and Crocs for hubby and son too...hubby's shoes wear out and my son's feet are almost as big as mine now!) and maybe a bondiband or two (though I'm sort of tempted to wait until the Expo but then...what if I hate the headband?).

OK does anyone NOT wear a costume? I really don't think I'm going to do anything more than a "I'm a jogger" type of costume. I might even wear shorts, since they've actually proven to be more comfy than my HappyGirl SkirtSports running skirts! Non-costumers, remind me who you are!

I won't be wearing a costume. I get really hot when I run and am one of those people that take two cups at the water station, one to drink and one to dump on my head.

Yes, they are plenty of runners that do not wear costumes. I usually have a costume planned and ready for nearly all my Disney races but if the weather is bad (usually if it's too hot/humid) I will not wear my costume and only wear my regular running clothing.

Yeah, that's where I started last year... put simply, I was not impressed. He didn't do anything more than what I could find online, but for free. I tried my chiro as a last-ditch effort before quitting running altogether... she's a miracle worker. I really just got lucky that the one I called happens to be a runner, treats a number of local runners, and has also had experience treating dancers - we tend to have some issues that most PT's/Chiros don't understand. Like, I'm very, very flexible, thanks to a lifetime of ballet and yoga, which both presents its own issues and means that the stretches commonly used for ITB stuff don't work for me; I can fall into pigeon and stay there all day without effort.

My chiro uses Active Release Therapy, which is the #1 thing that seems to help, plus has stripped my ITB, uses accupressure, electro stim and laser therapy. WAY more than the PT my insurance would cover! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: We should start tweeting out the typos!

Ditto - plus I tore a rotator cuff ages ago and it healed with a ton of scar tissue; swimming more than a couple laps stretches the scar tissue too much, which hurts a whole lot. Not to mention the thunderstorms that occur every evening here, the only time I'm able to work out!

OK does anyone NOT wear a costume?
I'm not doing a real costume - too hot! My friends and I are wearing DIY tech shirts... we're Team DHARMA. :)

I use a wooden rolling pin--it has basically the same effect and I didn't have to spend $30 on a stick..
:thumbsup2 I do that, too!
