Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

How fast does this sell out? days? weeks?
I am doing my first 1/2 in mid September. A local race. I was hopping to see how that went before I committed to the expense of Disney.

The did a scaled reg fee set-up depending on how early you signed up. I think it only got to the 1st price range before it sold out. But if I remember correctly, it was b/w $130 and $150. But seeing as how the DL 1/2 and WDW 1/2's are at $150, I would guess that we're going to start at $150 as well unless a discount comes out.

Thanks! That kind of $$ will make sure I stick with it!

I can't remember myself exactly how fast Tink sold out last year...hopefully someone else can, but I know it, along with the DL half, tend to sell out much faster than the WDW races. You can keep an eye on the race website though after registration opens. Once it hits 50% capacity, they will post that and keep it updated. I wouldn't wait much longer than 85-90% full to make a decision...especially if it hits that % around the same time of any other Disney race or large and popular race in the US with an Expo...if runDisney has a booth there, alot of people sign up at the expos, sometimes to save the registration fee or the incentive of maybe a free bag or something. The week after you'll usually see a little surge in the capacity. Unfortunately, it looks like the registration price will probably go up from last year so that may turn some folks away and make it a little slower to sell out...it's just hard to know for sure! People are usually good about posting capacity % here on the boards too :)

It was in August sometime. I know that reg wasn't open at the DL 1/2 Labor Day weekend. This year though, it could go either way b/c WDW is the week before, but at the same time it's MLK weekend so people could also want to go b/c of the built in Monday day off a lot of people have.

Where is everyone staying?

I tried to book a room at BWPPI last night and could not get it for the days we will be there (January 16-22).

I am wondering if I just wait until August and book a package with Disney itself as I have always wanted to stay at the Grand Californian, however, $400 a night for 6 nights is not in the budget!

I'm probably staying at BWPPI unless Stovall's comes down a little bit. Try the main Best Western site for the dates ~ they have rooms available starting at $89, but the PPI's own page doesn't have the dates up yet. The Grand is going for $300 ($351 after tax) on Get Travel for the DL 1/2, so it'll be a tad cheaper, but what about splitting hotels. Unless you have a lot of luggage, it's not that far from BWPPI, just walk up the main way. You could do 1/2 at each of race weekend at DCA for the convinence of walking to the start and the rest of the time at BWPPI.

Splitting the stay does sound like a good idea, I will just have to talk DH into it. Maybe Wed-Saturday at BWPPI and Saturday night-Tuesday at the disney hotel. Better yet, I could convince my cousin in Huntington Beach that we should stay with her Wed-Saturday :rotfl:

Thanks for the idea! I hope I can convince DH that it may work. For someone who had not gone to Disney before we met, he is very much a disney purist.

Lmao that is sooo funny a disney purist.... do they still exsist lol :)

I'm in again! Well, hopefully. I might not have the $$ to register when it comes around but hopefully I can before it fills up. I had so much fun this year (it was my first 1/2 ever) and would love to do it again!

Even though I live down here now I'd love to stay a night or two at the PPH. If I can get my family to register too I think we'll definitely do that. Either way I'd be looking at hotels for them.

I am very curious about this runDisney thing. What is C2C? I think I am going to start running and try the Tink 1/2 in DL. I started roller derby this Jan. and I can already tell a difference in my weight and endurance levels from all that roller skating. That has encouraged me that I *might* be able to run. My husband and I are going to run the Castaway Cay 5k during our Dream cruise. That works out perfect because I will be able to decide if I would like to even attempt a 1/2 before the registration opens. So I guess I will see...

LOL. He thinks hes a Disney Purist. He won't be when it comes down to the bottom line! We have DVC but can't count on 7 month availibility at GCF so it's going to be a lot more $$ to stay onsite at Disneyland, and it's not nearly has important!

C2C is Coast to Coast. It means you completed a race at WDW and Disneyland in the same calendar year and you get a really cool medal.

I just started running about 2 months ago and my goal is getting my C2C in 2013 with the tinkerbell half and the princess half.

I hope you stick with it and run :) What I've learned about runDisney is that the races are friendly to people of all abilities, as long as you can keep under 16min a mile.

So glad I found this thread!
I WANT to do the Tinkerbell..it would be my first half. Pretty much planning on registering. Only thing holding me back is I'm new to running and halving some calf issues. I finished Couch 2 5K a few weeks ago and this saturday will be my first real 5K. I've never run further than 3 miles. I'm signed up for a 10K in September. part of me thinks I'm reaching a little to far trying for a half this January but another part of me says dont worry, you can run walk it....??? I did already make hotel reservations though so I guess that says how much I want to do it!

I'm at Vault 28 @ Downtown Disney for the special Dooney bags release and they have and are selling the bags from the Tinker Bell 1/2. The same bags they had at the expo. You can try and order them through 1 800 Deliver ears for those who still want them.

Hope your race went well this morning! You should be fine by January, especially if you're doing a 10k in Sept. You can just add on to your training from there. The disney races are so much fun and you'll have a blast. They're a perfect race for your 1st time. And the pace is a 16 min./mile so that'll give you time even you walk the whole thing. :goodvibes Look at KT tape for your calf. It works really well. They have different diagrams for where you're sore and how to put the tape on for that area. I love it.

So how was it this morning?? Just looked on ebay and there weren't a lot of people selling the retro look so that made me happy. Hopefully they'll still have them on the 21st when you can call and order them. Were you able to get an AP discount on them?

Have fun this weekend!

Thanks for the C2C answer. I will have to try that. I just might have to ask for the Princess 1/2 weekend off and go to that one too! I could probably walk a 16 min mile so I should be okay....but I am still going to give it my best effort. I just got an email that I *may* be able to run in the Disneyland 1/2 this year... I am on the waitlist for a charity, when I looked at doing it, registration was closed. I guess I better start running ASAP!

Hello,

My husband and I are thinking about doing this race in January. It will be our first half marathon.

I have been looking into the hotels (mainly BWPPI) near the parks and was wondering if any of them served breakfast prior to the race. We will be flying in from Kentucky Thursday night and will not have a car.
Thanks,
Krista

Kim,
Well---I stood in a line of around 50 or so for close to 1 1/2 hours. I got in line a little before 9:00 am. They were letting 1 or 2 people in the store at a time. People started lining up at 6:00 a.m. I did purchase the large Satchel purse-which really took me under 5 min. to pick the perfect one out and buy it and then out the door. There was really no need to have the process take SO long and when we walked by Vault 28 later that afternoon they still had all the bags available and even a cash register outside the store. You should have no problem getting one in a couple of week. They also were going to release the purses to stores inside DL and then Deliver Ears could help you out. Although..you might want to pick it yourself due to the "placement" of the different attraction pictures on the purse.
Good news you can use your annual passport for a discount. (20% for premium--saved 40.00) For spending over $200.00 they even threw in a credit card/luggage tag thing for free.
I hope you are able to get the one you want and the design of the bag is really even better in person. I just love my new bag. :)
Keep me posted.

I stayed at BWStovalls for this years Tink and they had the breakfast area open and running! I was very impressed! Considered staying there again, but will have my kids with me and I wasn't happy with how thin the walls were and poor internet reception in our room.

My race went great! I finsihed under 40 minutes and ran the entire thing and those were my two goals! DD got to join me for the last hundred yards so that was cool for her too. And I can see where participating in races is addicting! It was so much fun! Im defintely signing up for the Tinkberll half now! Thanks for the advice on the KT tape. Gonna go goole it in a few minutes. As for hotel reservations I'm a Hojo's fan and since they had the retro rate for that weekend I went ahead and made ressies. I know it will be a longer walk to/from but its worth it for their beds :goodvibes
