Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Whew! Received my tickets today from GetTravel. :yay:

Matt, congrats on your IM! :smickey:

Did we decide the WISH meet is going to be Saturday at 4 pm? Don't want to miss that one. :teeth:

. . .I'm scared about doing both races. I have a decent walking pace. Between walking briskly and jogging from time to time I should be fine, right? I did the Richmond half in 2011 with barely any training and that seemed super hilly. And I got swept at mile 21 at the wdw marathon this January. So I've done longer distances before.

It's possible to briskly walk at a 16:00/mile pace, although it wouldn't allow for much in the way of photos or bathroom stops (excepting true speed walkers). Just shoot to stay under the official pace and try to start further up in your corral; if you work a steady balance of walking and running (i.e. 1:1) you can probably do it. Maybe try some mix of running and walking beforehand if you can, or start with an easy mix on the first mile or two of the actual race to see how your time is doing. If you need to, you can either pick up your walking pace or extend your running times by 15-30 seconds. Or maybe you'll be doing fine, and can even back it off a little if you want. Just don't try to do too much too early so that you run into problems late when you're already going to be more fatigued from the effort. :thumbsup2

Just chopped a couple hours off the last time in my sig block last weekend, so now it's time to get excited about going back to my happy place! :cool1: After all the stress associated with IM, it's gonna be fun to just get out there with my shoes, hat, gloves, and run my butt off. :rotfl2:

Congrats on the new PR!!

Does anyone know what kind of photo ops Disney will have on the corse?

Inside the parks, it's characters and floats from the parades. Outside the parks there are some bands and cheerleading groups, some hula dancers w/ the cutest little wahine dancing and a mariachi band/dancers. Last year there were some old classic cars. Not really a photo op per se, but before we hit the stadium, after the trail, there are tons of girl/boy scouts out there cheering you on. Plus the stadium, and I always forget where it's located, but there is a camera on the field showing us on the jumbotron so you can try and get that one.

I thought the old cars were great in that spot.

I called this morning and they didn't have a tracking number for me, if you have any luck getting one by email please let me know.

It's seems like a looonnnggg time ago since we were standing in line together at the Expo at WDW in January registering for this race! :goodvibes Hope to see you at the WISH meet. :flower3:

It was forever ago! Still no tickets, no tracking number. Nothing:(. Hoping to get them tomorrow.

Got my DL tickets that I ordered through Get Travel today via FedEX. Did have to sign for them, as indicated on the order form.
Did not receive an email indicating they had been shipped or tracking number, which would have been a nice thing, so people could make sure they are home for the FedEx delivery.
Thanks to those who have been posting about this so I made sure to get my run done with before the delivery today.

FedEx tried to deliver my tix today, unfortunately it was while I was at my children's school:(. Pretty irritated that GetTravel has not allowed for the option to schedule our delivery - what is up with that?!? I did have FedEx send them to a facility that is convenient for me to pick them up tomorrow.
At least I know where they are now!

Hi All! This is my first time doing this Half Marathon, my second overall. I was wondering about the course. I know there is a map and I have seen it. However I was more wondering about the terrain. I have heard this is a fairly flat race. Is this true? I just finished a 7 miler and that was ALL uphill, in fact the 7 miles uphill caused more pain than the half marathon I ran several months earlier. Any thoughts or info would be great! Just trying to plan my last long run and I want it to be similar to the terrain.

There are two brief uphill parts. The overpass over I-5 and the incline leading up away from the waterway thing by Angels Stadium. Certainly short enough not to be measured in full miles.

In addition to the map that runDisney has of the course, here is the USATF certified map which shows the highest elevation to be 50 meters and the lowest elevation to be 36 meters. My good friend Google tells me that difference converts to around 45 feet.

Also, you can check out MapMyRun and search for Disneyland Half to see how others have tracked their run through a comparable course the past couple years. There's a bit of variability there, but essentially it looks like you climb a total of 115-120 feet -- not all at once, but just over the duration of the course rising and falling. Assuming you track your runs using a similar GPS app with elevation stats, you can compare to get an idea of how similar or dissimilar the course is to what you're accustomed to.

This will be my first time running it, too, but from speaking with others and the stats above, it sounds fairly flat to me. :thumbsup2

Congrats Matt! You killed it!! :cheer2:

Thank you both so much! Sounds to be a bit more like the first half I did (with a broken toe.....long story there). This will be pretty much nothing like the last run I did! Will definitely use this information for my run this weekend! Thank you again!

For those of you who have done the DL Half before, are there tents set up like they have at WDW where we can hang out at the W tent before and after the race?

I know I haven't been posting at all but as pre race nerves are starting to settle in (a week early I know but I fly Thursday and I have a lot going on in addition to the DDD). Just thought I would say hi I guess. In the D corral. Running the 10k with a friend but running the half solo.

Been checking the weather sites and everything looks to be pretty seasonal- no surprises in store.
Started packing yesterday and hope to get the bulk of it done today. We leave Wednesday so I need to be finished Tuesday and packing 4 people into 3 suitcases isn't easy! I have so many other things besides this trip going on and I am getting a little stressed but I got a lot of my list done yesterday so that us good.
Ran 7 yesterday and I think I will take is easy and only run 3-4 up until the races, my heel is very sore and I want it to be fresh.
Excitement is setting in!

Dumbo Double Dare participant here. Doing my last long run pre-race today. Ran 4 miles yesterday and felt pretty good! I will be in Corral F (I'm slow but I just want to finish, I've been running for almost 1 year now since doing Couch 2 5k).

I did a warm up race last month. As you can see, I already have some pixie dust on my shoes. (My nephew's first 10k as well).

Have lost 32 lbs so far and still going. Running is just magical! :wizard:

Wife is running the 10k though I talked her into doing the half marathon in WDW in January. :hyper:

I remember seeing something several pages back about a possible meet up. Was it ever finalized? I'll be honest, I didn't go back through and search didn't help me.
