I added up my miles in RunKeeper for 2012 and it was only 225 miles. I really thought it would be more but I guess considering I barely ran from mid-September on, I guess it makes sense. My goal for 2013 is to clock 500 miles at a minimum. Anyone else have a mileage goal this year?

After reading yours, I decided to add up mine. 375.88 miles. Not bad for a girl who only wanted to run to get in shape for her wedding (in 2011) and never had any want or plans to run a half :) I don't know what my plan is for 2013 since I'm not sure I'll be doing in races after a race in March and am not so good with the self-motivation...I need those training plans!

Yeah, I've had a mileage goal of 500 for the last two years and am peeved that I have missed it BOTH years. Last year I was sidelined for a bit with shin splints but I came awfully close. This year, not so much - mainly due to my extreme slackness this summer and fall. So, third time's a charm, right? Really, REALLY want to hit 500 in 2013. Although not that I've been slacking; Dailymile says I've hit 910 miles since I started using their site a little over 2 years ago, so I think I'll be impressed with that for a little bit. :thumbsup2

Oh - and now it begins. The new year dawned cold, grey and completely, totally, wet - all day. Blech. So what is a princess to do except get online and start planning her trip?!?! Consulting with my fellow princess and I am enjoying trying to plan our days. This is what I do when full-on winter hits. Although, I do need to get my rear in gear and find a suitable apron. I'm going as Provincial (pre-princess) Belle and while I have the blue dress and white shirt for underneath, I do NOT have an appropriate apron. All I can find are tall cooking aprons, where I need more of a "Raggedy Ann" style apron. Am hoping it has pockets - I have dreams of storing a small baguette in there while I run. Handy if I need the carbs, right?!?! So if you see Belle running by munching on a hunk of bread, be sure to say hello!:wave2:

No milage goal for me, Just want to run more not only crunch in miles before a race. I finally started my training for the princess tonight  I work best under pressure! Ran for 45 minutes and got in 4.5 miles. Its cold and Icy outside so I had to do it on the treadmill :crazy2:

I used to be that way. I'd sign up for something and a few weeks before, hit a treadmill and hope for the best. I started really pushing it in 2012 after I registered for Tough Mudder and somehow started to love it!

Nice!!

910 is awesome!!! We're going to hit that 500 this year - both of us!!

A few of my friends did that one too. It wasn't worth driving downtown for at only 5K. I can freeze in my neighborhood just as well without paying for parking. :rotfl2:

Amen to that! Only the Perfect 10 lured me out so that I could get a good corral placement and it really wasn't cold way back before Thanksgiving.

I'm taking a small trip a little bit south for a few days where it looks to be about 6 or 7 degrees warmer, so maybe that will be fun.

I was around 260. Since I'm not planning on any long distance races after the Princess, I'll shoot to stay above 200. But I have different goals next year like going after some Tae Kwon Do belts, so I'm not going to hold myself to the milage.

But man, I love those running apps that tell us such stats!!

I checked MapMyRun and it says 616.5 miles this year! And I know that doesn't count some "international" training I did on vacation. I think training for 2 half marathons (Princess and DL 1/2) will do that for you. That's the plan again for 2013, so we'll see how it goes!

Without any indoor track or treadmill options, this recent winter storm (cold, ice, snow, wind) has canceled 2 workouts for me. At least we're heading down to FL for WDW and a cruise tomorrow, so even if I won't be able to get in long runs, it will be much easier to run outside.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEAL!!!! I just got my Belle-inspired tutu in the mail and its so adorable! Iron ons came in Thursday so I should be able to have the shirt put together this weekend! Still need to get a matching sweat band though....and earrings cuz I'm weird like that :). I found a cute Beast pin online that I might get to pin to the back of my fuel belt....something for all the people passing me to see :)

Cripey, where are you ordering your iron ons from? You put one on a tech shirt for the TOT, didn't you? I saw you walk by but didn't get a chance to say hi.

I did a 4.1 miles on the treadmill today. No heel pain, but the stupid bunion became tender 1/2 way through. I think I will just have to deal with it. :(

How many variations do I need for my costume? I ran the 5k last Feb and wore a tech shirt, capris, and a short tutu. I'm running both the 5k and the 1/2, so I'm trying to come up with 2 costumes. (I figure the 5k one will be smelly/wet come Sunday morning for the 1/2) In an ideal world, I would be wearing a sleeveless top for one and a short sleeve top for the other, but I am worried I will be cold. Should I just bag the sleeveless top and work with a short sleeve one and bring a long sleeve if I need it? I have a throw away jacket if I need it. I just don't know how many options I need for tops...sleeveless, short sleeve, long sleeve light weight and/or heavy weight long sleeve??

Question for all, now that the milage is getting higher I've been getting knee twinges around mile eight when I walk. I don't know if it's from the cold, all of the concrete stairs I have to run while working or walking longer distances. Any thoughts? Also I am having issues getting a sixteen minute pace, I'm thirty seconds off that whenever I go more then six miles. Do you think I'll get swept and do you have any tips for speed when walking?:confused3

I order all my vinyl (non-rhinestone) iron ons from Miss Morgan Designs....she's got a website, Etsy store, and is on FB too.

For costume options, it's hard to say....the weather there is so crazy. In 2011, I wore a sleeveless because it was so warm, but I hear the 2012 race was quite chilly. I'm putting together a short sleeve top and will have a long sleeve top to layer under if it looks like race day will be cold. This time I'm hoping it won't be warm enough for a sleeveless because I didn't buy another iron on for a second shirt. For the bottom, I'll either wear shorts or capris under the tutu depending on the temps. For corrals, I plan to bring a fluffy robe to keep me warm if its cold pre race....easier to take on and off and still keeps your legs warm too :)

It might be ambitious, I am going to go for 500 miles as well. Run keeper said that I walked 148 miles from Sept 20-Dec 31, 2012. I am hoping they total the mileage correctly I did not add them myself.

Many of us in here have suffered or are suffering IT Band pain which usually starts with knee pain. So you will probably have a lot of us suggesting you watch for this since it bites so many runners. First, try getting a foam roller. You can get them at any running store and if you've never used one, ask the person at the store to show you how. It's a fairly inexpensive thing you can do that can't hurt and might help. Well, it does hurt when you do it, but it won't hurt you in the long run. Also, remember RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation).

If that doesn't help, I would go to a sports med doc or PT and ask them to screen you. My IT problems started in the knee and I thought I could work past them but it only got worse. Started in September and I didn't go get help until mid-November and by then I could barely run 3 miles without intense pain. I was in PT from mid-November until a few days ago and it has helped so much!! I feel behind in my training because instead of being at 10 and 12 mile long runs, I am back to 5 or 6, but I am doing them without IT pain so I'll take it!! Don't wait too long to get checked out. Better safe than sorry. I hope you are feeling better soon!!

As for the sleeve situation, I just cut the foot out of a cheap pair of knee socks last year and used those to warm my arms until I warmed up, then threw them away. Worked great!

Just made our room reservations at Coronado Springs.:cool1:
I'm getting the countdown fever now. Can't wait for this year's Princess Half. We have been training hard and despite mulitple injures, I feel more ready this time.
Anyone else staying at Coronado Springs? I've never stayed there so I have no idea what to expect.

Oh yeah! I did that too last year for Tink...just chilly enough out there to want them for a few miles, but knew once the sun came up I wouldn't want them any more...Target always has fun patterened ones for just a couple of bucks...I just bought a pair the other day for the upcoming Tink half. I probably wouldn't layer shirts unless they expect a really cold snap...like 30's for the entire race...which I wouldn't mind at all!!! I looooove running in the cold....probably because we don't get cold temps very often for very long in Texas.

We are! We have stayed there three times before. Last year we stayed at Port orleans Riverside for the Princess, and we were booked there this year too but we couldnt get the Dining plan there with the CM discount so we switched to csr yesterday! What did you want to know?

I'll be there too! It's my first time at this resort though so I'm no help :)

We should have a WISH Princess meet up there Friday or saturday!

Anything and everything.
What is the best building to stay in?
How far of a walk to the bus stop?
How far of a walk is it to the main building?
Are there long lines for the bus after the race? (stayed at All Star Sports last year and waited almost an hour for the bus UGH!!!)
Best pool
Best resturant

Thanks for the help!!:)

I'm at CSR too. Never stayed there before but have done a lot if research. If possible, you may want to request a preferred room. Puts you in casitas, which will be close to everything. With the race, your legs may thank you for less walking!

There are 4 bus stops, so one close to all the room areas. Busses at parks are rumored to be fantastic for CSR- they don't share! Not sure about after race though

The dig site is the main pool, and many say best pool on Disney property (minus storm along bay).

Cabanas and ranchos look closer to main pool than casitas. But all sections have quiet pools as well. Casitas has the spa and gym and a lap pool- if you need to work out before or after your run. Lol

DW and I finished a race this past weekend with a MUCH better time than we submitted when we registered for the Princess Half. I know we can bring these results to the expo to update our times. However, what constitutes a proof of time? Do I need to get an official document from the race? Thanks!
