Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Oh I'm so excited. I was over looking at some of the F&W festival booth menus and found my favorite beer listed! MMMMMMMmmmmmm :drinking1 Now I know where to direct DH!:thumbsup2

As a participant, can we enter Epcot at 7:00 with our party members who are just doing Finish Line Party (I have read that those people can get in at 7:00). Do we just show the CM at the gate our race bib? I know we need to be on the bus at 8:00 heading to ESPN. Is any of this accurate? Thanks for the help in advance.

I don't think so. I believe the Finish Line party doesn't even start until EPCOT closes.

This is from the Run Disney Website, which makes me wonder if we can get in with our family members who aren't running but doing the Finish Line Party:

I'm not sure, actually. I assume you mean because you don't have a regular park ticket to use at Epcot at that time?

But this brings up a question - these party wristbands that we get as runners for the party. Do we get those in our packet at pickup, or after the race? Just wondering if I'll be wearing something while running or not. I don't remember my sister having a wristband at all last year.

And does anyone know if someone with a party ticket can exit the party and then come back in? Just wondering if DH could go into epcot, enjoy some of the party, go back out to a spot along the beachclub to cheer me on, and then meet me back inside after the race.... I think he wants to avoid the finish line spectator part because he thinks it will be really crowded. If he can't exit, I'm going to tell him to maybe try by imagination or spaceship earth. I'm so glad we run thru epcot this year! :yay:

Yes, I don't have a park ticket to use that day. Planning on laying around all day and relaxing and using my park days for other days.

While the Finish Line Party ticket does grant admission as early as 7pm, I would not personally even worry about trying to get into Epcot at that time. I believe the shuttles only go until 8, so you're going to want to get on a bus before then...not at that time. Especially since there will be plenty of other runners trying to get on the bus also.

Your bib or wristband will be your entry post race. I doubt they will let you through the main turn styles during regular operating hours without valid admission media.

My plane lands around that time and I am optimistic about making it to the expo. I checked in online to help move the process along when I get to the resort.

I'm doing the 1/2 so I planned on having us jump out of the ME and he can grab a expo shuttle while I keep our DDs and check in. Not sure how long the ME will take and if there will be an expo shuttle waiting and how long the expo shuttle will take.

Oh my gosh, I don't think there is an end to this list

Zebra domes from Boma
African stew from the Mara
Beef empanada from Argentina (F&WF)
Fish & chips from UK
Empanadas de queso from Mexico
Pork tenderloin in mole dinner at La Hacienda
Dole Whip
Caprese sandwich from Earl of Sandwich
Cheddar cheese soup & pretzel bread from Le Cellier

I know I am missing several things... lol

oh wow! I had planned to skip the food & after party since we'll be leaving around 7 am for our cruise out of Miami, but now I thinking perhaps some food after my race might be nice... I'm a lover of all Mexican cuisine, Greek chicken slouvaki, and fish & chips... Who really needs sleep? I can always stick the DDs in the ship kids club and sleep then. :rotfl:

Be sure you have filled out the waiver to grant him permission to pick up your race packet as well as a copy of photo ID. I've done it for friends in the past, its not complicated, just an extra step to take.

Thanks! I had planned to go get my packet on Saturday after his and our DDs races. He won't need anything special to pick up our DDs kid race packets right?

Good plan. You can browse the expo that way too.

I'm not entirely certain about the kids' races...I've not done a RunDisney event with anyone under 21. I am sure there is someone on the thread that can answer that though.

Agree, was very easy to check your bag at the princess. I would recommend wearing something you don't mind "donating" to Disney. I keep a bag of sweatshirts etc that I don't mind losing for this purpose.

Was able to get in a cold 7 today bringing this weeks total to 15 - might be all I get this week, so it will have to do! Haven't skipped on any other training weeks, so I think I'll be ok. Trust my training, trust my training!
I keep the ugly pajamas my grandmother gives us at Christmas for just this kind of thing! :lmao:

pixiedust: for those who are not feeling well and safe travels to those of you who are lucky enough to be leaving already! :cool1:

Did anyone pipe up with the historical sweep points? Not that I am planning on being swept just like to have an idea if I can consider myself safe, as long as I am making good progress, before Epcot. ;)

Don't forget our WISH meet Saturday at 8:30 pm by the information booth on the runner's side and pictures at 8:45 p.m.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon! :goodvibes
I don't remember the sweep points exactly. But I remember people being upset last year because there was a really late sweep, I think at 10 or 11 miles?
See you all soon!

Tell me about it! Is it Friday yet???

I have a dilemma for you W&Ders to help me with please!

My left shin/calf is feeling sore and tight today. :worried: I ran saturday and stupidly did a really hard hill workout. I had shin splints back in July but new shoes took care of that. In Sept, I had this same soreness after my first 9.5 mile distance and it went away in a few days with rest and stretching and icing. But that was September. Now it's Monday and the race is saturday. I was planning on running 5 tonight and 3 wednesday and then done til the race. Should I wait until tomorrow and do 3 Tues and 3 Thurs instead hoping that things clear up by tomorrow? Or what else would you suggest? I've only gotten up to 11 miles twice, no 13+ LRs for me thanks to previous setbacks. This is my first half but I've been running consistently for nearly 18 months.

Sigh.... training has always stressed me out. I am looking forward to the actual RACE! :thumbsup2
Stick with 2 short runs - maybe just 3 and 3 miles. Also try not to run on concrete - run on the side of the road, track, treadmill. Finally what I consider my foolproof shin exercise: toe raises. Heels on a step (facing downstairs), lift toes up 15-20 times. Bend knees a little and lift toes up 15-20 times. Medium speed. Do up to 3 sets of these a day. This worked nearly instantly for me - it was crazy.

Leaving for the airport in a few minutes. Good luck to everyone and I hope to see you at the race Saturday night.
Safe travels! See you Saturday!

Left calf/ankle feel very TIGHT, I mean
Ouch! Hope you've been able to work it out.

Hmm...we did the kids race last year, but I can't remember. I think DD was with me when I got the packet, but we didn't need to show anything. In any case, is DH's last name the same as the kids? If needed, he could show his ID. But I really don't think there was anything other than providing the name.

*******
Looking forward to Saturday! We leave first thing Friday morning - staying at All Star Music. We haven't had a rental car in WDW since 2005 or 2006, but we decided to get one this time. We entered the lottery to get AP entry into Fantasyland and got a time slot 90 minutes after our flight lands! So we'll be foregoing Magical Express (which I had forgotten to sign up for anyway!). Looked into town cars, but our trip is so short, it was a wash with the rental. We don't plan to drive to the race, but it will be nice to have our own transportation if we want.

Ugh, my log in for the Disney sites is not working. It doesn't give me an error, but every time I try to do something it asks me to log in again. Guess I won't be doing online check-in.

Dick's Sporting Goods FINALLY opened up here in Oklahoma City this past weekend. To "celebrate," they mailed out a coupon for $10 off $25. So I went in to buy a pair of socks that were $15, and basically got $10 worth of Honey Stingers for free. I am very happy! :)

I had them back in the summer when I first registered but they subsided for a while. Now they are back!

I think there's a mcdonalds not far off the course that some runners sometimes pull off and get a mcflurry there. Not me. No way. I'm getting to that finish line and done as fast as I can (which is really, not very fast at all. :rotfl2:)

lexst - can't believe you are AT disney already. So jealous.

I'm thinking my taper plan maybe should have included a couple of 6 mile walk days around the parks instead of sitting at home trying to get anything accomplished at work. :badpc: :hyper:

Yeah, was at Disney Friday night. Magic Kingdom Saturday morning until afternoon when I left wife and daughter and drove to Tampa to see Rush in concert. Drove back to Disney after concert to hotel. Sunday went to Epcot until 5. Back home now, but headed back this weekend by myself Friday thru Sunday for race and more Wine and Dine.

I am tired now. But weird how everything seems to happen at same time. Oddly I have a couple random vacation days I don't remember Wednesday and Thursday... So will get couple rest days.

Crazy.

You don't need anything ID-wise for the kids. The waiver needs a parent signature.

Packed and my travel clothes are laid out. Now I just need to occupy my time 'till Friday morning! LOL. 2 or 3 easy workouts before heading down.

Yea! It's race week! Whoot! Whoot! So crazy excited! Can't wait to have a Dole Whip and a Mickey ice cream! (after the race.) Blisters are healing nicely. Thank goodness for neosporin and bandaids. And, thank goodness for Claritin D for sinus. I think everything is gonna be alright. Whew!

Isn't that place awesome?! I love the selection there. :)
