Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

I'm starting to think none of us got through this in the same shape as we started it! :crutches: But the more I keep talking with you guys, the more I'm leaning towards doing this again next year...:confused3

No kidding! I was seemingly ok right up until I did my finisher's picture. Then BAM!! My legs decided to rebel against me. Sooo much pain, especially the next day. And of all the things I could forget to pack, it just had to be pain reliever. I went to the gift shop the next day to buy some and the CM noticed my medal and jokingly said, "I can't understand why so many people are coming to this section!" :rotfl2:

I am kinda leaning towards doing it again next year also. I would have no problem with it, but I would have to convince my DH. I do know I want to do the 2014 one for sure...it will be the 5th anniversary and there might be a medal redesign if runDisney follows its own pattern (as the upcoming Princess got a redesign for its 5th).

I found the perfect cure for the post race blues is to sign right up for another one, even if it's more like a warm up distance at this point!:goodvibes I know as soon as the knee gets better I'll REALLY be debating doing W&D next year :lmao:, especially if I get to hang out with all my new DIS peeps again!!:cool1::cool1:

I agree....important to sign up for another race immediately! My race recap and Jeff Galloway meetup report are here:

I saw you guys at the Bondi Band booth at the expo and was just about to introduce myself when DH called me (DS got sick and DH needed some help). I was bummed...but hopefully I will have a chance to meet up with you at a future race!

Sorry we did not get a chance to connect Mary. We met loads of people during the weekend and had a blast. We are now counting down the days until we return in January, me for the Goofy Challenge and my DD for the Donald Half!

Good morning everybody and Happy Two Days Before Thanksgiving Day Day! :rotfl: After going through all these posts and seeing how so many of you have your own blogs, it's inspiring me to maybe create one as well. The only problem is, I'm almost completely computer illiterate...I can't even figure out how to add a picture to my post or signature! :faint: Can any of my fellow DIS peeps who do blog, please PM me when you have some time so we can talk some "blog trash"? ::yes:: The idea of almost feeling accountable to the infinite number of internet peeps as a reason to get my butt off the couch and put in the miles sounds like great motivation!

I signed up for the Princess last night! It's at 95% capacity and I decided I need another goal in the near future (not just the W&D in 11 months). So excited! Can't wait to better my time.

95% already!?!? It was just 88% a few days ago. Uh oh. I guess I really need to make this decision quickly. Well, the W&D was my birthday present, maybe the princess can be a christmas present! :thumbsup2

It's now 97%!

So after battling a cold since I got back from the W&D, (thanks so much DH for giving it BACK to me!), I'm FINALLY heading back out on the road tonight for what will hopefully be a half decent 45 minute run :scared:. No expectations, just to remain in a semi-upright position. :thumbsup2 Have to admit, I'm a little apprehensive though . Haven't moved the legs too much since the race. Could prove to be quite comical..."excuse me ma'am, I couldn't help but notice you curled up in a little ball on the side of the road. Is there anything I can do?" :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Since I'm on this whole blog kick thing now, I ran across this link today, completely by accident of course... www.runningblogs.org. All sorts of interesting stuff! :magnify:

good luck on your post-race run. I still haven't done that yet. Trying to give my foot a little more time as per the doc's orders. But i plan to get out there on Tuesday the 27th, if not on sunday the 25th..... It was so beautiful here this weekend (for november) that i was so tempted but DH laid down the law and said no way. I did get him to hang up some christmas lights outside as a consolation prize.

I did a 30 minute strength training DVD on sunday instead and my quads and glutes are still sore! Hard to believe that one week after carrying me 13.1 miles, my legs rejected a few little (ok a lot) squats and lunges. :lmao:

Good luck on your run! I haven't gone back out there yet. But, after a temporary break up, I reconciled with my running shoes and wore them yesterday. I think we're an item again. lol

Glad I'm not the only one who hasn't ran since the race. Last week was insane getting back from WDW and getting back to life. And since I don't know when my next race is, there's not a looming race to force me back like there was when I finished the Disneyland 1/2.

Since some people were talking about that, I wanted to chime in with my thoughts about the Coast To Coast. Honestly, the 2012 C2C ranks as one of my best Disney experiences ever. It's fun enough to see both WDW and Disneyland in the same year, but I also really enjoyed the experience of a night race and a morning race. For those concerned about the early morning race, I would suggest Disneyland since it's possible to roll out of bed 1 hour or so before you need to be in your corral since you can easily walk to the corrals.

Having successfully completed a 1/2 and discovering it really is possible, seeing that Coast to Coast medal really gets you thinking. I probably talked with at least 5 runners after the Wine & Dine who asked about my Coast To Coast medal and what the Disneyland course was like. And they all sounded intrigued about it because it is different. Both races were great experiences in different ways. Disney World has nothing like the rush of Angels Stadium along the course and it also has some really fun opportunities to see more Disney stuff along the course.

As great as the feeling is to have the volunteers place the medal around my neck, it was even better when I went over to the Coast to Coast booth and had them cut off that wristband and place the Coast to Coast medal around my neck. While I think that the Coast to Coast medal might have caused me to even try a 1/2 in the first place, having now accomplished it was more rewarding than I could have imagined.

I wish I knew the feeling of the volunteer placing the medal around my neck. I had to grab mine from a volunteer who just held it out, didn't even look my way, and looked completely disinterested. We're all running 13+ miles out there...she didn't think she could at least muster a smile? Ugh. BUT I am glad you got to experience that...especially with the Coast to Coast. I hope to earn that some day. Can't do it next year, but hopefully in 2014 (which may also be iffy since I am a matron of honor for a wedding I have to travel to that year, which may hamper other travel plans)

I hope that next time you'll have that feeling. Too bad you had a disinterested volunteer. The good news about the Coast to Coast is that I think it will be around for a very long time. The Disneyland 1/2 sells out faster and faster each year. While this year well be the only time I get to race at WDW, I don't think that's quite the challenge for other runners. I can only come out every 3 years or so and my plan is for my next visit to be in December when all the Christmas events are going on. I so want to experience Epcot at Christmas and visit the resorts. At least I did get to experience all the other stuff on this last visit.

Somebody mentioned a special medal for the Wine & Dine 5th anniversary. I would plan on that happening. For the 5th Disneyland 1/2, they did a special medal with Mickey (which I couldn't run on account of my nephew's baby blessing) and changed the medal design the next year from the 2009 medal. We've also seen it since with the 20th anniversary marathon medal and the 5th Princess medal.

That is my hope for the Wine & Dine. I was contemplating the Princess for 2014, but would much rather do W&D if runDisney follows their own pattern and does a medal redesign.

I think the best WDW medal is the one for the Wine & Dine 1/2. Maybe it's because Epcot is my 2nd favorite park behind Disneyland or because seeing Spaceship Earth means that I know I'm at WDW. Given that I don't care for some of the other WDW medals, I'm glad that the Wine & Dine 1/2 was the race I got to run for my Coast to Coast.

I have told my sister that if she ever attempts the Goofy, I'll try to go out to WDW and cheer her on, and run at least one race that weekend, either the 5K or the 1/2. The only full I would ever even think of attempting is the WDW Marathon, but I'm so spent after a 1/2 that I don't think a full is good for me.

I fully agree. The Wine & Dine medal was the driving force behind my desire to do a half. The medal is gorgeous and definitely my favorite of all the Disney ones. I wouldn't mind adding others to my new collection, but I haven't been crazy about the other designs. I am probably one of the few that actually didn't like the Princess redesign.

I doubt I will ever do a full. Just when I hit mile 13, I thought to myself, "crazy people doing fulls...". :rotfl2: It is a lofty, lofty aspiration indeed. If I ever get it in my mind to do one, it will be the WDW one.

Oh boy was that a tough one but I managed to pull it off!:cool1: I started with a quick maybe 1/4 mile warmup and even took my mutt along with me since it's finally cooled off enough to bring her with me. And that little pooper can run!!::yes:: I managed to pull off about 39 minutes before the remnants of my cold made breathing an adventure. And with my knee feeling sore and stiff right off the bat, I figured I better break back in nice and easy. I did however, wear my W&D Half shirt for a little extra motivation and boy was I styling!:lmao: The quads were sore too since I went back to yoga Monday night and I think my entire right side at one point decided to remind me how much it was not happy with me by rewarding my efforts with one cramp after another. Somehow though, I managed to get through it and actually keep up a pretty good pace. I'll be out there again on Friday to work off all the Thanksgiving goods (okay, I really mean all the wine! :rotfl2:), and I just keep telling myself each run will get easier. I hope......:scared1:

Your DH was right Figs! Take care of the foot so you can run more later on. ::yes:: And even though I'm one of those anti-Christmas types, how can A good dose of Christmas lights NOT make you feel better! :hyper:

You guys will have to forgive me for all these posts. I haven't figured out how to do it all at once. :confused3

After last night's run, me and my shoes are no more. I get my new ones today! YYYYIIIIPPPPEEEE!!!!!:dance3::cheer2:
