Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Is there any way to register once the race is sold out other than gettravel.com? That would require booking hotel through them, and I have already booked our trip directly through Disney. I just realized we'll be there during the race. My DH would love to run it, but of course it's sold out. Do they every open up registrations? Or is there another way to purchase? Any advice is welcome.

Due to this race being sold out for about close to two months, at this point, GetTravel could possibly be the only way, that's if they have not sold all theirs as well. At this point, it might be a long shot getting in if GetTravel has nothing..

Disneyland 1/2 was sold out and then a few days before they opened up more registration spots... They also had an option to register through a second travel agent for just registration but I guess that was only for Disneyland.

I just got back from Disneyland and am really looking forward to getting my coast to coast medal in November! Ahh, the clanking of the medals... Does anyone know if Disney might open up some more host resorts? I originally scheduled for Thursday-Sunday but my work schedule now means Friday-Monday instead but I can't get a room in the Beach Club for that last night!

I'm also looking forward to going for the Coast to Coast. In some ways, that was the medal that really got me interested in the whole idea of doing a Disney race. Now it's just a matter of keeping my training up and not touring too commando in Disney World the week before the race.

Agreed! That's one of the reasons we decided to do a cruise the week prior - lots of rest time! :thumbsup2 I also started running with the C2C medal in mind! I wonder what will happen once I have it... I may do a race here and there but I am not sure how many more halfs it will be due to the time sink... I might become more of a 10K gal, lol!

I'm still on my Disneyland half high:cloud9::cloud9: and looking forward to my C2C medal @the Wine and Dine! I'm sure it will be alot cooler since the next race starts @10pm because I just couldn't bare another heat wave like DL's.:faint:
Is there a WISH meet planned yet?popcorn::

Was the race fabulous?! Did you do the Tink earlier? I'm wondering how they compare.... I really wanted to do Tink again but it was not in the cards for 2013 so we are considering doing that one next year! :goodvibes

I agree that the Disneyland half was great. Running through the stadium was the highlight for me. The biggest difference between the W&D and the DL half is the local crowds cheering you on. I'm sure it is due mostly to the timing of the W&D race.

I actually thought the weather was very nice for the DL half and much better than either of the past 2 W&D races. I was done with the race around 7:35 so it may have gotten hotter after that. My ideal weather is mid to upper 40's, so it was much warmer than that. But the biggest factor for me is the humidity. It was such a relief coming from summer humidity in Indiana.

What is the weather generally like for the wine & dine? What do most runners end up wearing? (just curious - I plan on packing plenty of options just in case)

I thought DL was really dry and cool and I finished a little after 8... Maybe California defines humidity differently, but I thought it was downright dry compared to the east coast.

This is the first year it is being held at this time. But speaking very generally, cooler than in the past two years and warmer than Marathon Weekend. Still gonna be shorts and a running shirt for me.

I am also wishing for nice cool weather for the W and D and of course no humidity or rain. ;)

I finished the DL half in 3:29:44, around 10am and I thought it was HOT :furious: but keep in mind I live at almost 10k feet in elevation and our summer high's are high 70's! ha,ha.:scared1: I thought it was a great race with lots of motivation along the way and going in the stadium was awesome! I'm looking forward to the W&D where the temp's should be cooler since the race starts @10pm. Right?:rolleyes1

I'm considering running a 1/2 for my long run. I figure if I gotta run that far anyways I might as well get a tshirt and bling out of it!

The race is very low key. They actually let those of us that are "velocity challenged" start an hour early! There are no time limits and tons of race support! (first aid, water, gu, etc....)

Any thoughts?

What would Walt do said:

My birthday is 11/11, and I've been at WDW on my birthday every year for the last 5 years. Now, since I'm old, I don't exactly remember the weather EVERY year, but I do know that last year I wore shorts to the park during the day, and was downright FREEZING for MVMCP that night. Covered up in the blanket we bought just to watch the parade! :). But, I think it would have been just fine if I had been running a half marathon. ;) As long as I had a sweatshirt in the bag for after the race! :)

I think this is a great idea. It will be fun, and you do not have to stress since there are no time limits....go for it!

Hello Everybody,
I'm newbie and looking for some friends to connect with for the Wine and Dine. I doing the Galloway method just did week 9 - 4 miles this morning with magic mile this morning. Did an 11:12 mm. I want to get to a 10 min. anything for a mm. Certainly can't do it for whole race. Got the 9.5 mi. next week and I'm scared and nervous. How's everybody's training going?

Welcome! I would love to have a 10 anything mile during the race. I'm following a schedule from runners world and my long run is only up to 5, but mid-week runs really ramp up this week. Its been so humid in VA which really impacts my time, but hopefully it's good conditioning. I really like the support ad knowledge of those on this board, so feel free to ask/contribute as much as possible. Someone's sure to benefit!

Just finished the Broadway Bridge 1/2 Marathon in Kansas City. Not bad considering that I haven't that distance since June's Hospital Hill 1/2 Marathon, and run for the first time in a month with a 5K on monday. PR'ed by 15 Minutes!!So pumped for Disney's Wine and Dine!!!!
