I started a new core workout today--Zumba for the wii. It was a great workout for 20 minutes. My DS, 3, kept encouraging me by telling me the lady was "changing colors" (when she is GREEN you are doing it right, RED is wrong and YELLOW is okay)! I recommend Zumba for the wii to any other new beginners! :cool1:

I love Zumba. My class is on a break right now, hoping to go back in September. My core is much stronger than it used to be.

Ladies did my longest distance yet, 3.9 miles (Nike+ went crazy and says 4.5miles) in 1:05, not really sure of my pace thought I did actually run sone sections!! I feel good and like I could go a little more.

Pj

Good for you! It's always a great feeling when you finish a run and know you can give a little more. Way to go!

Have a random question for the Princess Vets. Do you get a tiara when you finish? My sis-in-law who I am running with this year said to me after a tough run "I'm doing it all to get that tiara at the finish!". I didnt want to say anything because I'm not sure we do?

If we dont, I'm going to buy her one and give it to her at the end as a surprise. Thought I better find out for sure!

I'm new at this so ...

I am a NYer living in Houston, TX. It is soooo hot right now. Will the heat and humidity affect your running (or am I doing worse than when I started???)? And if the heat and humidity do affect your running (which would make perfect sense to me since I can barely breathe outside) ... will it better my training as well?

It absolutely does affect my running! In this heat and humidity I'm a good 2minutes per mile slower than what I was when I was training over the winter. It gets me very discouraged, but I have to keep reminding myself it's totally normal in this kind of weather and just think how great winter training will be when it gets here. And just think, if mother nature throws a curve ball and race day for the Princess is warmer than expected (like it was this year!) then you'll be totally prepared! My training for the Dl half is getting close to winding down...we're about a month away now, and it certainly is brutal out there. Luckily, the meat of the Princess training will be in much more favorable weather for you! Hang in there and remember to hydrate :)

Thanks - I am slower in the humidity of Houston ... and it is discouraging. I've been told that training in the humidity will build endurance, but at the moment (of total discouragement) it is hard to believe.

Thanks ... I run with Katy Fit and we HAVE to have hydration. So last week at a Wednesday night unofficial run I sported my goofy hydration belt ... which became my new best friend by mile 3 ...!!!

I ran/walked 4 miles yesterday...my longest yet. I didn't start training until it was already hot here, so I'm really hoping my pace picks up when the weather is cooler. My average pace was a 13 minute mile and that's not too good. :confused3

It's certainly good enough for Princess, you only need a 16 minute mile! You should be able to comfortably stop for photos with characters, I'd say you are doing very well ::yes::

Thank you, Maria! I just want to finish, but also be able to have fun and stop for photos! I am really hoping to increase my speed a little when cooler weather hits though.

13 min pace on a 4 mile run is great! With the amount of time you have left to train and the heat right now, as long as you continue to train and build up mileage, you will be MORE than fine for the Princess cutoff. :goodvibes

You Princess are all doing great! Especially with all the heat and humidity that has been everywhere this summer.

My training is still on hold. ^$*%^^@ KNEE! I tried walking with a touch of running (like only about one tenth of a mile) and my knee started acting up. I really thought I was in the clear. It had been feeling so good for the last few days. It's killing me that I can't run. I was all the way up to week 9 of C25K and was hoping to start Bridge to 10K by now. I am just so dang frustrated. I hate being at a stand still.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I have a love/hate relationship with my belt...gotta love it because without it I'd be face down in the dirt for sure, but I'm really hating it this summer because it makes me feel like such a pack mule! I wear a belt that has one larger bottle that sits horizontally across my lower back, but about a month ago that started to not be enough on the long runs so I ended up ordering 2 more smaller bottles that go with my system and sit more on my hips. It makes the belt seem soooo heavy...and extra weight is just what we all want on a run, right? hahaha! I still wear it all on my shorter runs too though and fill the big bottle with sports drink and the smaller ones with ice water and I use some of the water just to slpash on my face to cool off.
