For those of you that are newer to this thread and might be interested, I'm organizing a WISH princess bondiband order over on this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2765528

I'm going to take orders through this evening, so if you are interested shoot me a PM with your email and how many bands you want and I'll add you to the list.

If you are newer to running and don't know what bondibands are (I didn't hear of them until I ran wine and dine last October!) they are really awesome headbands that are super sweat wicking and don't budge during runs.

Here are a couple pictures of the tiara bands I wore during princess weekend this year:

Hi,

I have a question for you all. A friend of mine and I were talking about trying to run the Princess Half Marathon, we both want to get healthy, but hate working out, so we figured running for Disney would be a good way to take care of this.

Do you think its too late to start training? Any advice for newbies, who don't care for running? We'd both would do things for Disney we wouldn't do otherwise.

Thanks!

Absolutely not! You still have PLENTY of time to train and what better motivation than a Princess Run in Disney! princess:

I was never a runner until I took up C25K back in march and now I'm hooked. C25K is a great way to start out. Ive now moved to the Galloway training program which is interval training for 5K, 10K, half marathons or full marathons. Its a combination of walking and running. For me its breaks up the running so that I finished the run as strong as I started it. I highly recommend it to anyone that isn't a runner like me.

Same here! I started C25K in April and thought I would absolutely die that first week!:rotfl:I am now training with Jeff Galloway's program and ran/walked 4 miles Sunday. It was so hot, even at 7:00 am, but I did it and never thought I would or could. I still have a long way to go to get to 13.1 miles, but we have plenty of time. I hope to do 5 miles this Sunday.

Tankgirl,

I am a new walker/runner, just made it to 6k a workout, mostly walking with some running. I am not a small girl, I am working on getting healthy and fit and the Princess is part of my weight loss goals. These ladies are awesome for encouragement.

I am going with the Galloway iphone app for an interval 5k, will bridge to 10k, aiming for December 1st, then move on to the longer distance to hopefully finish the 1/2 in the proper time.

Awesome work girl! I am a walk/walk/run right now, but also made it too 4 miles, the Nike+ said 4.5, but it went crazy and had me jumping over the river and across in to the next street and back :rotfl:.

This is exactly why I got started last year. I finished the Princess half this year and it was one of the most emotional moments of my life!

While I still don't love running I'm doing it all over again just to have the experience at Disney World all over again.

Merci

This is exactly why I got started, too! I am registered for the Halloween 5K and will be registered for the Princess Half by the end of the week. I'm hoping for the same kind of experience you had. :) I am not a runner by any means, so this will be a major accomplishment for me.

I'm officially registered now! I couldn't decide what color bib I wanted this year, but I finally settled on Tiana. I can't remember seeing any last year, but I hope it's the really pretty green color of her dress!

TankGirl,
Sounds like we all have a lot in common. I am not motivated to exercise unless it involves Disney either. I've started Weight Watchers ten weeks ago and lost 15 lbs, now I'm starting to workout with Zumba on my wii (awesome workout for any level) and in two weeks when we return from a WDW vacation, I will begin running to train for this race, my first race longer than a 5k. I intend on using the Galloway method. It's crazy how much time and money I've invested in this one race. (Last night I bought a Garmin GPS watch on Amazon-amazing deal!)
Best of luck to you & everyone else in training! This forum is a GREAT thing! :yay::cheer2::yay:

Ladies the harder training has started, wk3 day1 of the Galloway 5k training app is done! I thought it was quite funny that at the end of the work out in the middle of the cool down walk, dear Jeff said "it is normal to have some aches, everyone has aches." Yeah thanks Jeff!

I started on week 3 since I can already walk walk run a 5k, I just really want to be able to run walk a 5k for the race on my birthday in late September, it is called the Island Girl 5k, there are photos of ladies in grass skirts :rotfl: Then there is the Snowflake 10k on December 19th.

I picked Belle, not realizing that it is actually the yellow bib colour. I am planning a very simple peasant Belle outfit, in blue,:upsidedow kind of pre-princess :flower3:

haha, I just did Day 1 of week 3 too! I thought it was interesting that the app I'm using goes from "Run 1 minute, Walk one minute" time based intervals to "Run 200 yards, walk 200 yards, run 400 yards, walk 400 yards." Based on the app, I actually covered less ground today than I did when I was running against the clock.

You have time, commit to do it and start getting healthy!

I am also a Galloway gal, I run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute....the entire distance. If it weren't for the walk breaks I wouldn't like it as much I think. I started couch to 5k last july and finished the princess.

Good luck, it is SO MUCH FUN! If you love Disney, you will have a blast.

I am on W7 of C25K and I am missing my walk breaks!
As soon as I finished that program last year, I jumped back on Galloway bandwagon. The walk breaks really help me go the distance! Though there is something to be said for running straight - something I thought I would never do when I did the program last july. Way to go princess.

The Galloway app gave treadmill pace to aim for each walk/run, I went a little faster on the walk and a touch slower on the run but since I was on a treadmill and the adjustments were slightly awkward, but I did end up with about the same distance in 2 fewer minutes then I normally walked. I also kept walking for an additional 5 minutes after the 26 minute session time.

I wore a bondi band first race July 4th....not a drop of sweat in my eyes!

These pics make me sad....I so want a Gaston photo AND my daughter LOVES that Cow. She had NO line when I ran by with my camera and no battery last year.....live and learn!

Great photos!

Julie, what was your time for the Princess this year? I'm training with the Galloway plan, but doing 1:1 right now mainly because of the heat. I really want to icrease to 2:1 when the weather gets cooler.

We waited forever and a day to get a picture with Gaston. The only time I saw him was the morning of the 5K.

I would have cried if my camera didn't work. A big part of why I pay so much for Disney races is for all the photo opps to remember the wonderful time I had!
