Has anyone ever strained/damaged their facet joint? Or their Sacroiliac Joint? I had and injection for the facet joint last week, but I am beginning to wonder if it is the sacroiliac joint. No running for two weeks, at least!
So bummed.

I have a lot of spine damage and the shots help. I get them about 2 weeks prior to a major run. I will tell you the number one reason I can run is that I go to physical therapy twice a week. We do a lot of core work , balance, and muscle work...like a massage, but they get into it an break up the tension. not so relaxing. I use sooooo many less pain meds since I started seeing them.

Good Luck!

Hi I am a new runner also, I started last year I did C25K, I have lost 20-30 lbs but I am still over weight, I did do the princess last year with my family. I met some amazing women from DIS that helped me train and celebrate my first half, I also have 4 & 7 year old but mine are girls, so I try to run in the AM and long runs on the weekend. We don't have sitters were we are also. Good luck to you, I know this will be a life changeing day.

Thanks! I did participate in the Buzz & Woody 5k this January with my son (then 5), however, I didnt train at all and was SORE the following two days! I too am on a weight loss program. I've lost 13 lbs with Weight Watchers and am about 5 more lbs from my goal weight. Off to work I go!

Have a great day ladies!

DisneyBoyz- my question would be do and how do you exercise now? Can you take some "longer" walks with the boys? Is there a little used road or track (that's available) near you? I've taken kids (usually on their bikes) with me to run on seldom used country roads (they felt important that they scouted for traffic while I ran -if a vehicle came we all stopped together on the side of the road). I also have (a very long time ago) hauled toy trucks and doll buggies and let kids play in the infield of a local elementary school track while I ran.

If you do some exercise now you could probably wait until after the MCM to start but if you're not doing anything now I'd try to do some walking and maybe some core work and stretching now. The kids may enjoy helping mom get ready for her big race.

It is challenging with younger kids- good luck!

I think I need to start cross training better. I played softball on Sunday night for a couple hours and am still super sore. While I was playing I was so impressed with my stamina being in the heat for a couple hours, now I feel like a wimp for being this sore. DH commented that he didn't understand how I could run a half marathon and only be slightly sore if this is how bad I feel after softball:rotfl: I guess the elliptical is too much like running to work different muscles... any suggestions for other cross training activities?

I feel your pain! I'm a huge softball fan ( playing not watching) and no matter what kind of shape you think you're in your legs and butt and probably your pecks will be sore. If you think about it, when was the last time you did squats? Every time a pitch is thrown, you set down into a deep squat and even if you're doing pushups I bet your pecks will be sore because of the different way you're using them. The only time i was never sore was when I played it 6 days a week in higbschool and college. And now? Yup, I expect the soreness.

Right now I'm doing some swimming about once or twice a week. Im not a good swimmer so I just hang out in the seep end and tread water for 30-45 minutes or so.

This is a great idea. I used to run on the paved path around a local elementary school field while my son was at soccer practice there. All for multitasking! My two older boys are school age, but my youngest is still in preschool. I also teach there, so while he was in school, I was in school! The jogging stroller was my greatest friend! My son loved it and refers to it as HIS jogging stroller - he falls asleep almost every time! There's a great flat path near my house that's 7 miles round trip, so I was able to get some good runs in without having to get a babysitter or get up before my husband left for work. And before you buy one, let everyone you know hear that you are in the market for one - after I bought one, I had at least 3 people tell me, "Oh, I had one you could have had - I just gave it away!" :headache: At the very least, you might want to borrow one from a friend and see how it goes. Maybe your 7 y.o. can ride their bike while you push the 4y.o.?

Maybe your 7 y.o. can ride their bike while you push the 4y.o.?

That too is a great idea! With a mountain lion sighting in my neighborhood two weeks ago, I've stopped walking around the block with the kids on their power wheels!

I will check out the local HS and load up the power wheels and/or the jogging stroller :scared: and bicycle.

I probably could also pull out some workout DVDs and sweat a little in my living room to work on my core. I've heard a lot about Zumba. Would that be a core workout?

I do Zumba two days a week on my non-running days. I love it. But it can be high impact. Up until this week I was using old running shoes for Zumba but it's been hurting my knee. So I've gone out and bought shoes that are better suited for Zumba. I'll let you know how that goes. I try to do strength training/strong class another day or two.

Even better advice about how to run in the rain.....

Move to Oregon and train here! :).

I did five miles the other day in a complete downpour. I mean you could hardly see in front of you. I didn't want to go out but my hubby told me honey you gotta learn how to in all kinds of weather. He then put on his shoes and joined me. It was kinda fun! Other then the I wear glasses part of it. No hat could keep this monsoon off my glasses. I just took off my glasses and ran blind....he was kind of my guide dog. :rotfl2:

I would love the chance to run in the rain right now! It's so hot here right now that I'm probably just as soaked in sweat come back from a run as I would be running in the rain :rotfl2:

Hi to all,

I am planning to register for this Princess 1/2 Marathon before the Aug 7 price increase. This will be my first 1/2 marathon, I have done two 5k races, and a 4 mile on July 4th race- posting respectable times -32.25 first 5k, 32.19 2nd 5k and 42.23 for the 4 miler and will run my first 10k in September. I'm up to 5 1/2 miles on my long run and did that in about an hr.- I'm wondering if I should wait till after the 10k to register for the Princess just to be sure I can handle the distance. Still trying to decide between staying on site or off.

Have found this forum extremely helpful- usuaaly I'm hanging out on the cruise site.

Thanks,
Dottie

I didn't think I could handle a 1/2 marathon distance until I actually ran my first 1/2 marathon. If you are already up to 5 1/2 miles with great time, there shouldn't be any reason you should have problems finishing the 1/2, aside from injury before the race. Once you start running longer on your long runs you'll gain confidence in your ability to finish 13 miles. I would definitely register before the price increases if you are sure you want to run. You can email proof of time after registering, so no worries if your 10k is after August 7th!

I'm curious if anyone would be interested in ordering some custom WISH princess bondibands. They have lime green headbands (http://www.bondiband.com/products/Solid-Bright-Neon-Green-Wicking.html) and I was thinking it would be cute if there was the Tiara on it (http://www.bondiband.com/products/Princess-Tiara-%28pink-ink%29.html) with 'WISH Princess' below it.

Thoughts? Interest?
I'm not sure how much they would cost. Normally bondibands are $8, so I imagine it would be comparable. I can organize this if anyone is interested, but we have to have 12 for a custom order. Let me know!

Edited:
I'm going to start a list of people who are interested to better keep track of how many people are interested. Let me know if you are interested and your name isn't on the list!
Heather (Stichfan18)
Michele (Michele325)
Maria (Worfiedoodles)
Julie (SaySay)
Marty (mountaineer)
Barb (freepixie)
Jennie (Twingle)
Jennifer (sunshine269)
Taryn (TMcDwyer)
Wendy (daisy112878)
Lisa (My4Men) - 3
Liz (pigletliz) -2
Josette (cantwaitvaca09)
Teresa (Teresa Z) -2
Kat (HockeyKat) possibly 1

We're at 17 now, and I plan to order 4 extra. Price per bondiband right now is $6.95! If we get some more people interested that price will drop even lower!

I LOVE it! Would people wear them so we could know each other??? I just got my first bondiband, and I love it! What a difference it makes in the heat.

I know they make them for the Expo, I have Disney Princess Bondibands in White (w/purple tiara and lettering) and Black (with pink tiara and lettering). I would definitely be in for a WISH order!

I know I would since my WISH shirt probably won't work with whatever outfit I wear. It would be a great way to spot WISH princesses before, during, and after the race.

Do you remember how much the bands were in the official disney princess merchandise area? I only have the Tiara bands they sell on the website. I prefer the wicking fabric bands to the Lycra fabric bands that the official disney princess bands were printed on. The shiny fabric is cute, but the lycra bands don't stay put in my hair as well while I'm running.

I'm pretty sure they were $10 each. Of course, I'm sure they had a pretty large order printed...my Princess bands are the wicking ones, not the lycra. They are definitely not shiny. They look just like my other wicking ones, they just have the Princess logo.

Very interesting, my bondi band is the lyra kind. I didn't know there were 2 kinds since I got mine at a running store. I'll have to order some of the other type.

I have ordered the lycra ones before, but not for running. I found they just slide right off my hair! :rotfl:

WELCOME! You know, I heard some time back years ago before I did my first half if you could do a 10K you can do a half, just takes the commitment to train smart to get up to that distance gradually. Hey, I have done 3 and I never thought I could do it, still surprises me! So my suggestion is find a training program you like and go for it - drink the Kool-aid and join us. The programs help you to not add to much distance too quickly.

I'm curious if anyone would be interested in ordering some custom WISH princess bondibands. I would be interested. Sounds cute to me. Let me know how much it would be. I have been wanting a WISH shirt as well, wondering if I am too late for that train?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I officially started my princess training today. I will run 3 short runs a week this month to get my body back into it and I don't want to do too much too soon to flair up my plantar faciitis. I am focusing this year on not only running, but cross training to get fit to make my body and muscles as strong as I can - without overdoing it of course. There is a 10K labor day weekend I would like to try as its completely flat... I did a 10K July 4th and was fine, though not any faster than the one I ran last year before the princess to get my corral. There is also a 5k the week after that is all downhill....which sounds great like it will be fast, but downhill can be hard on my knees so we shall see. I would love to that downhill race to try to get a faster time to move me up in our local HUGE 10k on July 4th.

I started a blog to track my training and give me some accountability - feel free to follow if you wish. I am no expert, just a middle aged lady trying to get ready for the race and get fit!

I'm sure Disney didn't sell them for the same price they paid, so hopefully it'll be a similar price for a smaller order.

Very interesting, my bondi band is the lyra kind. I didn't know there were 2 kinds since I got mine at a running store. I'll have to order some of the other type.
The wicking bands have have more of a rubbery type grip on the bottom to hold them in place, which is how they stay put so well. I wear the lycra more around town instead of to run.

I would be interested. Sounds cute to me. Let me know how much it would be. I have been wanting a WISH shirt as well, wondering if I am too late for that train?
I think the order for WISH shirts is still open. I know they weren't going to be ordered until everyone paid. Once I get a preliminary count on those interested and make sure we have at least 12, I'll email and find out about price for sure. Good luck with your training, I'm going to check out your blog now!
