All this shoe talk.... I think it's time for a new pair. I honestly hadn't given it much thought: how important they are especially once you start running distances. I'm new to running although I played sports growing up. We have Runner's Alley around here, anyone heard of it?

I have my first 5k tomorrow night and my cousin (who had the inspiration to start us on the road to the Princess 1/2) will be traveling to my place so we can run together. I wish we lived closer so we could run together more often than once:cool2:

I have our 7 nights split stay booked at BLT/AKV and my daughter and I decided to go 1 day earlier (so I can try and get used to the time difference) before the race.

So for 1 night I booked the new "Royal Room" at Port Orleans Riverside. They will be finished on Feb 16th. They look so fun! The headboards light up and I guess they are all kind of different and are themed for "a different princess that has stayed or visited at the castle". So you might get a Belle room, Aurora, etc. My daughter is excited!

Trying to get over the price though..... $291 for 1 night at a mod! Ugh to Peak season rates! Here's hoping for a discount code to apply to that!

I guess Disney hasn't even decided what the host resorts will be for the race yet. I called and talked to someone, and they said that they said they couldn't find any information and even put me on hold to ask someone else. They offered to give me a call when the hotels were decided, but I bet the hotels will be decided by the time registration opens in a few weeks. Just thought I'd let anyone wondering know. I'm hoping to book sooner rather than later, and would like to know how much it's going to cost for a room that weekend. The regular Disney prices are kind of scary for the weekend!:scared1:

good to know, thanks for checking and letting us know!

I just started Galloway's 1/2 plan last night. I still can't imagine 13.1 miles!:scared1:

haha, you can do it! I said the same thing a million times and truthfully it wasn't until I completed my first 8 mile run that I really believed I was going to be able to do 13. Your mind will play some mean tricks on you along the way...just tell it to kick rocks!

Do you use Galloway's plan? If so, what intervals?

No, I've been working out with a trainer for about a year and a half now and she's also a runner so I get my training plans from her. So far, I've been doing distance based intervals where I run for 1 mile, walk 100 steps, etc. I wanted to progress this time and either take fewer walk breaks or pick up my running pace, but that's proving to be very very diffucult for summertime training in the south! (I'm currently on week 6 of my 16 week plan for the DL half) So, I may stick with my normal run 1 mile/walk 100 steps through these hot months and then revise that plan after the Wine and Dine half when I start training for the Tinkerbell half and try to really push my training there.

Actually they are determined just not shared. One thing that becomes apparent with the Mouse is that they have lots of plans and lots of information, but rarely share until the need to know arises. So until the race entry open announcement they exact list is held in the vault somewhere. If one wants to book early, then look at last year's info and you can be assured that the list is the same, or only slightly revised.

You will do fine. What is really cool is that 6 weeks pre-race you will have a week where you only run maybe 6 miles and it will seem so short. Then if you keep after this and move to the full, there will be a time when 13 miles is just a hop. It's all about conditioning; physical and mental

I sure hope you are right! :cool1:

I do not advise this often, but you may be able to just slide into more of a run at DL or W&D. The 100 steps is a really short walk interval so for you it is not much of a leap. If you have cooler weather in DL just skip the first walk then evaluate at mile 2. If you still feel good then go for the 5 k mark. Or, just walk the water stops as an in between approach. The first time I ran an entire marathon I went from a training interval of run a mile walk a minute to running 26.2 and never skipped a beat. I was in an Elite RnR race where 5k's were marked. I just plugged into a 30 minute 5k and cruised until a potty break at 14ish and a long incline at 18. Otherwise cruised on in.

Thanks...I was thinking that too because (hopefully) the weather will feel great compared to what I'll be running in all summer. I know for sure I can do a 5k non-stop...I've done a few local ones that way and felt fine...just not sure I was ready to do more continuous running over a longer distance. I have tried the last few weeks to do some longer running intervals but the heat is just really getting to me...felt really nauseated a couple of times so I just decided to back off, slow down some and stick to my normal routine. I'll definitely keep it in mind though to maybe try to mix things up at DL if I'm feeling good and the weather is favorable. Thanks!

That would make sense since registration opens in a couple weeks. The weird thing though was that the lady I talked to said she was able to pull up the resorts for the 2014 race. I didn't bother asking what resorts they were, but that is what made her go ask about the resort list for next year. I'm mainly interested in booking DVC if I can, and since I think those resorts changed last year I'll probably hold out until official hotels are released.

Regardless is whether an Epcot area DVC resort is included on the host list, I think that one of the Epcot resorts would be included as a host resort. So if you chose wrongly, then you can simply walk to the correct resort for your bus.

We booked before the resorts were released last year at the BWV. None of the Epcot resorts were included, but we lucked out because TNT was staying there and we were allowed to ride their bus for the 1/2. We did have to take a taxi for the 5k though, but since traffic wasn't bad I think it was only $10 including the tip. I'm hoping they decide to officially include one of the Epcot resorts this year because it's a great location even on non-race days.

I seem to recall that now..

Good luck!! I have been following Galloway for the last 18 months and I am a big fan. I do 1:1 intervals as I am in the 12-13mm range.

Be careful with this, as stitchfan mentioned. The last two years there have been no Epcot resorts on the list.

I am hoping that changes this year, but no guarantees. Personally I think they should run a bus from more resorts as they have been growing this race yearly.

I totally agree! Some of the lines after the race for buses back to the resort were long. I was glad to get to hop on the TNT bus right away since there weren't as many people staying at the YC or BW. If I knew where TNT was staying next year I might be tempted to book the same hotel again simply because of the fact that the buses weren't crowded at all. Although with my luck TNT would stop letting non TNTers ride their bus to the start...

Both times I have done the Princess, I was there with a group of 6-8, and we drove. I found it a lot easier to have a car, with the Expo and the race. Maybe I am a bit of a control freak, but having to rely on a bus for a race start sort of freaks me out.
