Where can you find info on what times put you in which corral? I have a 10K coming up and would love to have an idea if I could move up or not.

There isn't anything posted. These are all just guesses based on what we got into last year. Overall, it's based on what times everyone submits. They have a limit of a certain # of people per corral, so they start with the fastest times in A and place people on back going down the times submitted. But my 10K time was within a minute of yours last year and I was in B. Since I stopped to take pictures frequently (and pee, like every 5 minutes it seemed) I finished the half in 2:42. But if you are trying to guess on a "regular" half time, then I would agree with the poster who would put it at 2:20-ish.

Got a workout in today! Took last week off after my half and am now starting over from Week 1 doing the Galloway plan. Since I am starting back, I decided to incorporate my butt-kicking early! There is a park right next to my son's school that I have been avoiding with the stroller since it has some killer hills. Well, threw on the running gear this morning and ran the kid around after carpool! I only did a little over 2 miles and the pace was in the high 12's, but I wasn't going for that today - I think Mondays are just going to be my stroller / hills / conditioning runs! Wednesday will be my "tempo" runs - little man in preschool, so free to run on my own - and Sat. is my long run day. I'm hoping the hill training will really help build up my regular pace. I'm not using the Princess for a time, but the Publix Ga Half is 3-4 weeks after the Princess, so am hoping to hit another PR for that one.

KAT - yes, they are addictive - this past week, after finishing my 2nd, I was already online looking up what other halfs were in the area in the upcoming months!!! There is one down near Macon that I was thinking about doing in January, the Princess in Feb and then the Publix in March! That would put me at 5 halfs (or is it halves?!) before turning 42 in August. Hmmm... maybe we'll have to look at April to make it an even 6 before the weather gets too hot!!! :rotfl:

I'm in the home stretch before my 10K on Saturday. I've decided to rest this entire week. My mind won't like it, but I'm sure my legs will, especially since I'm carrying a couple minor knocks. I found a pair of shorts with pockets that can close, so my energy chews and keys won't have to be carried in my hands, my playlist has been created, and I just need to decide on what shirt to wear. At the moment the weather here in Dallas can't decide what season it is, but it'll be in the mid-40s Friday night :thumbsup2

Good luck! Good luck! Good luck!!:thumbsup2

Oh good grief, after scouring 10 pages I give up! Someone mentioned they were on a juice diet and even responded to me with websites with recipes. Oh kind soul, if you read this will you send it to me again, I'm buying a juicer today!

Thanks, Michele

I had been toying with doing a full, but during the last half I did, I was telling myself that a certain place would have to freeze over before that happened!:rotfl:

LoL I am the same way. I want to do a full, maybe even Goofy, in the next 3 years (before I turn 35), but when training for this years Princess the longer the long runs got the worse of an idea it sounded like. So far I am up to 9 miles this time and it has been going pretty well so I am revisiting the idea.

I haven't found any loclal 10k races to fit into my schedule. I will just take my chances in my corral placement.

Depending on what you put for your estimated time, and what everyone else submits you may not be too bad off. For this years race I put 2:56 as my estimated finish time and I was in corral D.
I am hoping my 10k time will get me up to B this time since I had friends last year who had times a little higher then mine and that is where they were.

Which one are you getting? My dh is getting me one for Christmas and I am trying to decide between Breville Ikon and the juice fountain plus. I'm kind of "type A" like that. :thumbsup2

My DH insisted that its dehydration and I think it's the chews, what do you all think? I did consume 5 - 16 oz of water the day before but didn't guzzle water after the race.

I would agree more with your dh. 2 hours seems like quite awhile for it to be the chomps.
When I was training last year I tried the sports beans and within 5 to 10 minutes they would give me a stomach ache and then within another 10 or so I would be okay. I switched over to shot blocks and chomps after that.
Also last year when I was training I was getting horrible migraines (I am not normally prone to headaches) a few times a week and it was contributed to dehydration. I struggle to get water in in the colder months.

I completed my first real race today! Ran a 10K at 1:06:12, and the course had a few BIG hills and was actually 6.36 mi (not 6.2!). It felt pretty good, and except for walking up the biggest hills, we managed to keep about a 10 min/mi pace the whole way. I definitely pushed at the end and finished tired. We had the B-chip timing numbers-- it looked just like the one someone post many pages ago.

So my experienced Princesses, where do you think a time of 1:06 will get us, corral-wise? There is another 10K on Thanksgiving that I would consider doing if this time isn't good enough to move up. (I registered for 2:45 with no submitted time.) What kind of 1/2 time should that translate to?

The weather in the NE was beautiful-- perfect running weather! Even though most of the runners seemed pretty serious (we were kind of near the end of the finishers), it was great! I'm so happy with the time!

Was your race by any chance the Lexington Battle Green 10k? I ran it yesterday for the second year - the weather yesterday was MUCH nicer than last year!

I need to finalize my details. Both of my daughters (ages24,22) are planning on coming but may not be able to make it because of new jobs. I know I need to go ahead and make reservations but can I hold off on buying park tickets until I know if they are coming. Or can I go ahead and buy my ticket and still buy theirs at the discounted price later? Do the discounted tickets sell-out?

Thanks,
Martha

So Richmond Half Marathon is this Friday - drinking water and slowly carbing up this week (my body can not carb up on Friday alone). For those who have run before, what's your recommendation for running this week? Was going to do 3 slow miles Tuesday and Thursday as I have Acupuncture on Wednesday. Any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure if they sell out but you can buy the tickets up to Feb 22nd when I called and asked.

I'm beginning to think I got a caffeine headache when I did my long run yesterday. I didn't drink my coffee at all. What is your long run morning rountine? Do you drink coffee right when you're done? Do you eat anything? I can't seem to drink caffeine once my run is over, all I want is water. I have tried drinking it before I run but it just repeats on me. I did try eating a banana this time around about 30 min before my run with a little bit of water and that didn't repeat on me at all so I may try that from now on. Do you all just get right out of bed, stretch and go for it? If I linger around I feel I NEED my coffee :rotfl:

I am considering one Dec 17th in Columbia, SC... wanna come? :)

The half marathon is on Friday? I wouldn't run the day before for sure. At least one slow 3-miler is good, though.

I always have coffee before a long run.

My routine is as follows: Up, make coffee, drink my usual amount (large mug), and drive to long run (15-20 min usually depending on route). I use the restroom when I get there and then don't need to again until I re-hydrate after the run, and that has included a run of up to 16 miles. I usually only drink 4-8 oz per hour of water, unless it's super hot out.

I hydrate like crazy the day before, usually 64-128 oz., and stop about 8PM the night before.

Sometimes I have coffee after, but only if I am not planning on a nap later.

You mean Saturday, right? ;) I would do a 3 miler tomorrow and no more than 2 on Thursday. Start on refined (white stuff) carbs on Thursday - potatoes, white rice, regular noodles - no whole grains after Wednesday evening (just read this recently and it made sense). I hate to miss Richmond this year as the Hubster and I have run the 8K for the last 7 years, but we're off to the Outer Banks on Friday for a half on Sunday. Good luck!! The weather is supposed to be awesome!

Off Topic: If you could eat anywhere in any of the 4 parks in Disney where would you make your birthday dinner reservations at?

I would definitely root you both on! After running an 8k this past weekend, I'm intimidated by the lack of flat roads anywhere here. I live 20 minutes from downtown.

Does it has to be inside the parks??
If is inside the parks my choices will be Le Cellier at Epcot

But my first choices is not inside the parks: 1- California Grill at the Contemporary resort, 2- Ohana at the Polinesian

TiggerAllie,

Congrats on your first 10K. Your time of 1:06 should place you in the B Corral. You can expect to finish somewhere in the 2:20 range at the Princess Half. Glad to hear you are having nice weather in Boston and good luck with your training.
Happy Running!
Pam
I hope your estimates are right! Now I just have to figure out how to submit the time...

Yes it was! Those hills were killer! The weather was perfect at least. How did your race go? Since it was our first race ever, we don't have a lot to compare to. I thought the 10k field was pretty strong-- maybe because there was a simultaneous 5k? Or everyone else just knew about the hills!

If I had known you were going to be there we could have said hi!

You have to do a full at least once. Finishing a half is a huge sense of accomplishment, but finishing a full is a whole other accomplishment. I've found fulls to be so much more mental because of the time your on your feet. After 5:30 hours, crossing the finish line feels amazing! That being said, I enjoy the half distance a lot more and only plan to run another full after Goofy in January, if I can get selected through the lottery to run NYC.

Based on my experience - I say you have to do a full at least twice. Almost everyone falls apart on their first full (myself included. Ran a "time trial" at the time of a 2:08 half and ran a 5:03 full. ouch.) I spent a year picking up the pieces, improved my half by 5 minutes but really just worked on just building my base and running lots of easy miles, read up as much as i could...and ran a smart race to finish in exactly 30 minutes faster this past Sunday in New York, with 4:33 a finish. I am singing a much different tune now about full vrs half marathons now!
