Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I have not heard that term used here in Yuma foothills...we have two flocks that I know of... one at church solar parking structure and one down the street bordering the desert... I thought they were domestic birds at one time... how many mourning doves do you have in yard at one time....we have 6 varieties
I see both Mourning Doves and White-Winged Doves in my yard, although not nearly so many as I used to see. I used to have 30 or more each day; now there are maybe six or eight. I love the "who cooks for you" call of the White-Winged Doves.

I have one brother. We don’t talk all the time but we’re on friendly terms.

1. Vehicles- my brother is a car enthusiast and while his tastes are far more speed and classic oriented than mine, he is a great resource whenever I need to car shop.

2. Disney- Like my parents, he and his family also live in Florida. Whenever we go it’s common for him to join us. So it’s nice to still be making Disney memories with him in adulthood.

3. Parent Celebration Coordination- While sometimes my parents are also involved, it’s common for my brother and I to work together to celebrate our parents for milestone anniversaries and birthdays. It’s crazy to think that we sent our parents on their very first cruise nearly 3 decades ago. Now they cruise at least a handful of times each year (on their own dime). Also kind of fitting that we all cruised together several years ago to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Afternoon all,

I'm actually struggling to think of anything for yesterday's unexpected things, I probably have some I just can't bring any to mind right now!

And I'll go with S things today, as I'm not my brother's biggest fan...

1. Summer (and sunshine) - another vote for these. My favourite season and my favourite type of weather. Always feel better when the sun is shining.

2. Sweet treats - I have a huge sweet tooth and love anything sweet and sugary, from cakes to chocolate to biscuits and desserts. I'm really not fussy. Always need a sweet treat every day, even a small one!

3. Sunglasses - we're getting into the time of year where it's nice enough to carry sunglasses around most days and I really do adore mine. I've had a pair of Raybans for years and I'd be devastated if I ever broke or lost them!

I was too!

I'm going to go with:

a particular Disney trip when we had amazingly good luck with new ride lines opening just as we were walking up to them

times when an already-planned trip to visit family corresponded with community events also happening there

when the sun comes out for a little bit on a rainy day ⤵️

Always feel better when the sun is shining.
Definitely!!

I'm doing siblings day because I am very lucky in the brother department! I'm grateful that:

... he does so much for our Dad! (He lives close and I am many states away, so most things fall on him.)

... he is my guru for all things music. 🎼 🎶

... he picked out a nice sister-in-law for me.

My sister, who is 16 months younger than I am, and I had very little in common growing up. We still don't, but we've gotten better at not judging each other. :) We talk occasionally on the phone, and when we do, or conversations are good. I especially appreciated her when our parents died 4 months apart. Sharing memories of not growing up in a very loving household gives us a bond that I am grateful for.
I am actually much closer to my sister-in-law. We can talk on the phone for hours and our gift to each other is listening and caring.

Happy Saturday Everyone!

#1 - MY DANGLING JIMINY CRICKET - I have had a Jiminy Cricket dangling from my review mirror for over 20 years. He’s connected to my favorite Disney song - When You Wish Upon A Star. This is why the Wishes fireworks show will ALWAYS be my favorite ❤️

#2 - MY RINGTONE FOR DH - It’s the song Chelsea Dagger which is connected to The Chicago Blackhawks. This is the teams official goal song, and every time I hear it, I’m flooded with wonderful memories of all the times we’d go to Blackhawks games with either the two of us or an entire family.

#3 - MY DD22’s RINGTONE - It’s the song When Can I See You Again? which is connected to Wreck It Ralph (I love this movie!). This song is such an appropriate ringtone for my DD22 because when she leaves I’m already wondering when I can see her again, regardless if it’s in person or FaceTime.

Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts
Can You Feel the Love Tonight by Elton John
Life Is A Highway by Rascal Flatts
Time of Your Life by Randy Newman
You Got a Friend in Me by Randy Newman

Sooo many more!
These are all songs that connect me to my kids and DH. What I am most greatful for in life are the people that God has blessed me with.

That Yellow Submarine immediately made me think of DD19 and seeing Ringo a few years ago but that feels so literal. I think I’m going to go with underwater because I’m in my princess parrotfish outfit right now.

Parrotfish- I have seen them a number of times when snorkeling, on glass bottom boats and the Deerfield Beach cam. They are a real treat to see and are a true highlight for any underwater adventure.

Fish…in general- While it made me sad when my dad sold his last boat (decided it was no longer safe for him to be out on the ocean due to his age), we had a boat of some sort for as long as I can recall so that he could get in his fishing fix. Many a dinner while growing up came from the fish we caught on those trips (crabs too).

Coral/live rock- it always feels like you’re looking down on a living city. It’s just amazing to think that all of it is alive.

Joshua Tree...1960s... No yellow submarine came over my folks airwaves...all I remember is Sunny...Windy... Honey... however scholastic magazine book offer did offer a yellow submarine magazine and beg and pleaded ...so wanted to be cool as some peers were wearing beattle boots...had that magazine till 2000 when eBay had a high value... never saw the film. License fee for beattle songs must be high.. not heard one song on radio or casino

1969 we left to Oregon and discovered that our home became a submarine as we looked out the windows at all the rain....then BJ Thomas released a song.... rain drops keep falling...it became our family anthem.... the lyrics were so easy that our 3 year old sister picked up the lyrics....BJ became the first singer to have a number one song in 1970

1981 in basic training US army 🪖 🪖 🪖 🪖 might as well been in a submarine... sure we were outside but so many confining rules .... I did have it easy though.... but still...so when basic was over and marched over to advance skills training... not so many rules...so went to the post library to explore my freedom and for the first time in my life put on stereo headphones 🎧 🎧 🎧 🎧 isolated from all stress , as though underwater and listen for the first time Christopher Cross...45 years later still writing like the wind along the border...no submarine here... living top deck of a cruise ship... sailing along

National submarine Day
Hunt for Red October... what a cast

James Bond and his assistant who wanted to raise rabbits... instead he brought us dinosaurs

The crazy Russian doctor..."imagine the Horror.. the horror as he sat in a rocky life raft

The actor playing Jack Ryan who had a wonderful future but became to uppity... can't recall his name ... now a rerun on SNL rerun Christmas special

Oh.. almost forgot... Darth Vader..." I was not here "

Seeing Yellow Submarine with our grown-up DD when it was re-released in 2018. We especially loved singing along during the end credits together with the whole theater.
Memories of my DGD singing YS when she was around 2-3. She always repeated the line, have all we need, with enthusiasm.
The yellow submarine toy I bought her that she played with in the bath.
