Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

WHOOOO! Got 11 on the books today! Miles 8-11 were tough, but I was lucky that it was a beautiful day so I could at least enjoy the sunshine, which we didn't have a lot of here in the last week or 2. Calves were tight but no actual pain and NO shin pain, so that's all good. Just the usual body aches that come with your body rejecting the notion of running that long! I had been doing 5/1 intervals in training but wanted to see how I would do going back to running a mile and then walking a minute intervals. Did surprisingly well and for me it made it seem to go by quicker. Mama Odie cheered me on at the end; "Dig a Little Deeper" came on and I thought of you, Michele! "Dig a little deeper, find out who you are!" :thumbsup2

I am soooo happy for you! 11 is sooo great. Congrats to all who have done thier longest run yet AND to those ramping down already! I am still planning on stopping at 10 simply bc of being sidelined here and there with injuries and lack of time. 9 on this wed and 10 when weather (and my rickety old body)next allows. Was suppose to do my VERY FIRST race today (5K). However, my DD is very sick and I need to be with her. My hip is a little funky too. Not sure what I did but I think it has to do with the treadmill training I've been throwing in here or there with poor weather. I am going to try to avoid the TM at all cost.

Was already thining I'm gonna have Princess Dis Boards withdrawl after this 13.1 is said and done! Anyone doing ToT 10? That will be my next Disney run. Might follow boards if its collegial like this one...

Congratulations to every one on their runs. 4 weeks to go. I'm so excited and if my mickey mail could get here I can be happy and quit worrying about the trip.
We did 14.33 miles today. I did not think we were going to make it. We started much later than we had planned on, but I was not ready to run in 36 degree weather so we waited until the temps hit the 50's. My husbands earphones started messing up early on. Then I have not put enough music in my iphone and had no more music after mile 11. I felt like we were going to have to walk the last mile, but we kept it up. We still kept a 13:30 pace and I'm good with that and would be happy with that on race day. Now it is time to taper down because I don't think we can handle any more long ones before the race.

I'm so happy I got back on the treadmill again today!! I've been so busy since hitting my 13 miles back on MLK day, plus I was sick, so I eased back into a 4-mi run! :goodvibes

Got the call from our AAA lady, our trip stuff is in!! So on Monday after work, going to go pick it up and out to dinner to celebrate!! Can't wait! Once we have that packet, it really feels "real" - we ARE going to Disney!!

It snowed last night and some of it melted away but then refroze so it was a bit to slick for me to risk my long run outside. So I tried it at the indoor track at my gym: 9 laps= 1 mile. I ran 90 mind-numbing laps. I was planning to do 12 today but decided to do 10 and do 12 again in a couple of weeks. Hopefully it will be better weather around here. Tried my sparkle headband and capri pants I'm planning to wear (used my skirt last weekend for a 4 mile race) and everything worked great! No wardrobe malfunctions.

Y'all are doing amazing!!! Love the outfit too :) I did my 12 miler today and couldn't believe how good I did on it since I hadn't really run since Tuesday. I'm gonna try and run Tues and Thurs not this week but the following and do another long run and see how I do on that one but that will determine if I should run that Thur before the princess. Does anyone take that run off? On Galloways plan it says to run it but my body felt better resting in between longer, what's the best? When is the last time you run before the Princess race day?
Also, I did horrible on my 11 miler that I figuered today I would celebrate and go to the beach as an after run "treat" and boy did that feel good!!! The water was too cold for me but sitting on the shore and letting the waves roll up on my feet and laying on the beach for 2 hrs was phenomenal!!!! Of course building sandcastles was a requirement too.... Too bad Orlando is so far from the beach otherwise I may take that over Disney ;) Second thought, NO!! :)

I am hoping to do 5 or 6 miles tomorrow, but my knee has been killing me since I did my 11 mile run on Tuesday. It's my patellar tendon. If I bend my knee it hurts. I don't want to over do it and cause more pain and damage, but I want to be able to get the miles in. I had taken 2 weeks off for my shins, maybe going up to 11 after only one short run wasn't a good idea. But it felt so good to get back out there, especially since the weather was so nice on Tuesday. My knee didn't hurt while I was running at all, just started about an hour or 2 afterward. More ice and ibuprophen.

ran 14 miles today and ended up averaging 9:35 min/miles. I was hoping to average 10 min/miles, so I was pretty shocked when I saw my Garmin at the end. Hopefully this means I'm getting stronger!

You are awesome! I totally forgot about that song! I actually do the same thing and run the first mile then do intervals. This last time I did 7/3 and worked out well.

Dig Deep everyone! :thumbsup2

Dang! That rocks. I would love to do one mile at 9:35 let along 14 miles!

i'm coming back from patellar tendonitis myself, so i totally understand the feeling. are you being treated by a running-specific PT? I was looked at over thanksgiving when I couldn't run 3 miles (after running a big 30 min PR in a full marathon.) I was told that as long as the pain was getting better (aka it would hurt later on in the run and less severe) and I was not taking any painkillers to mask the pain that it would be ok for me to continue to run through it.

The first few runs I did I was also told to use run-walk intervals rather than my usual running. They had me go with 2 mins run/3 min walks to 3 min run/2 min walks to a very slow run to my normal training pace.

I was also given some strengthening exercises to do, and some ways to correct my form that was likely aggregating my knee to begin with.

what i do is rate my pain on a scale from 1-10. 1 would be little nagging aches and pain that i would normally ignore if i wasn't coming back from injury. 10 is my knee is screaming at me, i can't walk, i'm screwed. if i start to run and it starts to move beyond stage 1 to stage 2, i start to pay attention. stage 3 is when i'm really listening. any worse, i stop. i plan my routes so i have "bailout" options so i'm never stuck 5 miles from the house in agony.

good luck! i hope some of this helps you in at least some ways.

thx! trust me, if i didn't know the route so well, i would have assumed my garmin was broken :lmao:

improvement hasn't come easy to me by any means. my average pace for my first 10k was 12:35 min/mile about three and a half years ago. i never thought i would be able to 10 a min/mile!

i've put a lot of work into the sport, particularly the past year, and i feel like i finally have started reaping the benefits. now watch, i'm going to go and get myself injured again and i'll have to start from square 1 again :lmao:

but if you want it bad enough, you'll get there. don't underestimate the power of lots easy miles with the right pinch of once-a-week speedwork and lots and lots of persistence and patience!

Thanks! Sadly, I am a PT, but work with geriatric patients. I'm in NJ and we can't just go to a PT here. You have to have a script from a doctor, sort of. What kind of exercises did they have you doing? I've been doing some straight leg lifts, but anything with bending my knee seems to aggrivate it. Over the summer I had pes tendonitis and the doc said to start back by alternating 200 m run/100 m walk for 2 miles and gradually bulid back up from there. I just don't have a lot of time to loose since the Princess is only 4 weeks away. But I don't want it hurting so bad that I can't run the Princess at all. UUUGGHH! Injuries!

I can't believe the princess is so close!! I was on the original thread last year and could never find the time to catch back up on here after we moved to FL and then we bought a house and then it was Christmas and. . . . now I'm finally back =). I officially registered for the princess today. My husband was supposed to run with me, but he hasn't trained at all, so I gave him the boot and I'll be all by my lonesome for my first 1/2 :guilty:

I'm still working on mileage, I've only done 10, I'd like to be at least to 12.5 before the race. I did a 15k today in 1:49 (PR) and I used that for my PoT.

Is anyone else using kinesio tape? I used some on my left knee (I'm having popliteal issues due to lose/weak ligaments in that knee) and felt amazing during my run today. Just wondering if anyone else was using it also =)

Today was the day: beautiful weather (45 degrees and sunny in Boston in Jan??), and we ran 13.1 mi in 2:30! For me, I really have a mental block about adding more mileage, so it was really important to at least reach the race distance during my training. (I'm hoping to do a 14 mi run still before the race.) I was sooo happy when the iMapMyRun lady said 13 miles! Whoo!

I'm using KT Tape on my left knee too, at least for the longest runs and the surrounding shorter runs. I had them wrap it before the Half Marathon and it made a huge difference in my kneecap tracking. I taped again today for my 12.5 mile run, and it definitely helped. :)

That's awesome! Wow - I've never done 14. Great job!!

Oh, wow - that's amazing! I mean, I agree that it's better than cracking something outside, but that's serious dedication! Great job!

:)

Do what you feel. If you do run THursday, make it an easy 3. But if you don't, it's really not going to wreck your endurance! Some people like to rest up.

No worries - I ran by myself last year and everyone is so fun and supportive!

Wow! Less than 30days now :goodvibesprincess:

I ran 13.5 yesterday! Longest.run.ever. Sore but happy today. I love reading about everyone's training although best wishes to all with an injury, recovering or just a bit under the weather.

Congrats to all on your miles put in and... wow... congrats to our speedy princesses too  I guess we will know who you are as you fly past the crowd!! So awesome!!

This morning I'm also sending thoughts and happy wishes to our girls out on the west coast running the first Tinkerbell!! So excited for them!!

And just 4 weeks princesses!!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! princess:

I know it helped me a lot during the WDW Half to know that I'd already reached 14 miles in training, so when I was getting tired close to 13.1, I was able to remind that mental demon that I'd already run a longer distance and therefore I would be able to finish the 13.1 too. :)

I got 9 miles in today and it felt pretty good! I was even tempted to go more, but my ankle was starting to get tight and I didn't want to push it.

I think I'm going to try for 10 or 11 miles next week, then 7 the week after, 5 the next week, and then it'll be time for the race!

I'm just happy my calf decided to loosen up. There was a bad knot in it last week that just would not go away. I'm just keeping an eye on my ankle now because that has been a problem in the past. It just can't be as bad as last year because that's when I was rehabbing it and it could barely hold any weight after just a handful of miles. Yet, I did finish the Princess with it screaming at me!
