Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

It is considered EXTREMELY important in South Korea for children to learn how to speak "perfect American English" to the point where some will have surgery on their tongues to aid them in pronouncing things with an American accent. The better your English, the more competitive you are for a good job.

He has explained this to me. He goes to academy every day after school and that's where the kids learn English. Apparently, he comes from a very affluent family there. I also think that he misses his freedom. There, it's a huge city and everything is within walking distance like Manhattan. I live in the suburbs and you need a car to get anywhere out here. All I can do is try.

Maybe once I get a good run in, I won't want to tear my hair out strand by strand.:rolleyes1

My running plan for this week has been totally shot. My shins hurt so bad today even with taking 4 Advil at a time. Tomorrow I see the orthopedist. Just hoping it's not stress fractures. UUUGGGH!!!

Sorry to hear!! Good luck tomorrow!

Fingers crossed that it is something you can work through. (((HUGS)))

I've been pretty absent around here...lack of running/working out makes me feel lazy compared to all of you ladies. There's no real reason that I've not been running, I think I've hit a slump and I *need* to break it NOW. I have time to finish training for the half, IF I get my butt in gear.

So, my plan for this week:

Tuesday - evening run (4 miles)
Wednesday - short run (2 miles) and 45 minutes on the arc trainer/elliptical (which ever is free)
Thursday - morning run (4 miles); evening kettlebell class w/abs (about an hour)
Friday - short run (2 miles) and 45 minutes on the arc trainer/elliptical
Saturday - boxing class w/abs (about an hour and half)
Sunday - long run (6-7 miles)

Next week I'm going to start back on my regular workout schedule and be more involved here - you ladies are so motivating that it's silly to not participate.

It's looks like I'm going to be solo as well...99% certain that will be the case. The person who was supposed to go with me is having some petty bad medical problems and will most likely not get clearance to even fly, let alone run. I'm disappointed and was considering not going as well, but she's pushing me to go. So go I will...and have a great time!

Hi all! I haven't posted in a while here, but have been on Daily Mile (Michele S. from Michigan). I have finally caught up on the posts. I got 3 runs in while we were in FL 1 was almost 10 miles, so I now feel so much more confident about finishing the half since all of my runs are now on the treadmill.
My work out plan for this week:
M: 3 miles, some strength training
W: 3 miles, some strength training
F: 11 miles, or as much as I can while my son is at school :)

I'm excited today because I get to try out some new running gear :goodvibes I got a gift card to Dick's for Christmas, so I went there Sunday and got 3 things with some money left over to decide on later. I normally get UA gear which last years, so it was so much fun to get to shop for new stuff. It's the little things that keep me happy.

Wow. I missed 1 day and I can't keep up with you ladies!! So much to say!

Anyway, my first question is a stupid, newbie running question/corral question. A previous post on corrals (which was great BTW - Thanks) mentions 20/25 mins...Does this mean there are 20-25 min wait times between corral "releases". So, if in corral D (where I think I'll be) you likely will start around 6:45? Do those of you in later corrals arrive later? Any extra sleep would be great.

My schedule:
Definately up in the air! But, if all goes well:
Today: 5 miles I am going to try to run 2 songs, walk 1. Hopefully knees will allow.

Thursday: 3 miles Depending on how today goes, may try to run 1 mile, walk a song, run again etc.

Friday: 6.5 miles - 7 miles. Not the best day for a long run since I have an overuse injury but no time over weekend. What I do Friday really depends on how other days go.

My longest has been 7 miles. That was about a month ago. Had to start over with my knee issues. Again, I'm shooting for maxing out at 10 miles. So, I'm not too concerned at this point my mileage is so low. If I have a bad day today I'm gonna need some friendly support!! I'll let you all know. I'll be thinking of everyone today as I shoot for 5. That is, if I have child care:)

New running music I'll share: Grease soundtrack and thinking of downloading "ready to run" by Dixie Chicks. A little slow, but, appropriate.

There are no silly questions, ask whatever you are curious about :thumbsup2 Everyone must be in their corrals by the same time, so starting later doesn't really mean you can show up later...if I remember correctly, corrals start every 6 minutes or so, so you wouldn't want to be sleeping in, anyway! As the corrals ahead of you leave, you move up, until you are the next corral to go. You just inch closer to the start line every time they release a corral. It's a little weird when they send the first one off (with fireworks!) and you are not moving -- well, it is for me, I'm more of a "C" or "D" corral girl :rotfl: I usually go out to catch my bus between 3:30 and 4:00. You probably won't sleep much the night before. If you do, consider yourself lucky! :goodvibes

Oh no. Good luck today!! Let us know what you find out. Sending good thoughts your way. :goodvibes

Wave start questions - you have to be in your corral before the beginning of the wave start. 6 minutes sounds right? I don't remember but I could go back and look, though. Not sure when the last bus is, but they close the road into Epcot at 5AM, so you wouldn't be able to get there later.

My running plan this week is REST. My leg is thankfully feeling much better but it's not totally healed. I am waiting until I can jump on that foot with no pain before I start training again. I'd rather be rehabbed and be able to walk/finish the Princess and start training again after, than be dealing with this injury all year.

I'm walking the Princess anyhow, committed to do so with some friends and am really looking forward to it. I would like to be able to get some walking miles in before, though, mostly just to have non-blistered feet.

Does anyone know if you can walk from the Dolphin or BC to the starting line? I know you normally enter Epcot using the IG from these hotels but was hoping to avoid buses, shuttles and cars on race day. The whole thing makes me nervous like I'm afraid I'll miss the shuttle or stand around FOREVER which will also make me nervous. Guess I'm the nervous sort!

We are staying at the Dolphin BTW :)

I stayed at the Swan last year. You cannot walk to start - the IG entrance won't be open until the park opens. You can take it back to the hotel if you have your park ticket for after the race AND you get to Epcot after the Park is open. We drove last year, there were 5 of us in the car, it certainly helps with the nervous energy to not be alone! You could take a taxi or just walk over to BC if that is a host resort and there is a shuttle.

This year we are staying at POFQ....I am looking forward to the comaradarie of the shuttle bus!

We stayed at BC last year and we were nervous about buses and all that stuff as well. We found out the day before the race that the YC would have a bus we could ride. So we walked over there and timed it so we knew when we needed to leave our room.

It worked out well and wasn't nearly as stressful as I had made it all out to be in my mind.

There is a little standing around but there is so much going on around you with costumes and people that it seemed to go by fairly quickly.

I was so nervous about the whole experience, but everything is very efficiently run. I can't wait to do it again this year so I can enjoy the experience and all the details.

Last year my goal was to finish and just get through it. This year my goal is the finish and HAVE FUN!

Merci

Thanks so much! Really getting the feel for this. I guess I really should have planned a 5 K or SOMETHING before hand. We are having a shiver by the river series in my area in which I may participate. This may help with my starting fears. I also am afraid of trying to keep too quick a pace just to avoid getting trampled at the beginning. All this "corral" talk reminds me of herded cattle.

I saw someone saying the same thing on you tube...standing still without an inch to move as the fireworks were going off felt a little wierd. I think I'll just be enjoying my Disney induced chills!

I mentioned my running plans today were tenative...now have two sick kids home from school. No running for me today even though it is a beautiful day in NE PA.

Something else to think about if you are in a host hotel and taking a bus -- there are many more people running staying in your resort than you realize! It is entirely possible you will see multiple busses load before it's your turn. A good rule of thumb is the less expensive your resort, the more runners are staying there :rotfl: Don't be afraid to go out a little earlier to catch the bus than you think you need to. :goodvibes

I am running solo too... I am a pretty slow runner but if we are in the same coral maybe we can start together for morning support.

I like this idea too. I'm running alone and the only part I dread is all the down time before the race by myself.

Me too! I'm running by myself and this is my first Disney Race, I'm so nervous and excited it would help to be around other princesses to remember to enjoy everything :)
