Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Congrats on your 9.5! I was hoping to get mine in today, but at 1/4 mile my daughter called on my cell phone saying my autistic son was having a meltdown, so I needed to come home. I'm just glad it didn't happen at my turnaround point, which has happened before. Holidays can be hard for ASD kids, so I'm going to wait to do my 9.5 until he's back at school on Tuesday. I'm going to take the kids for a hike instead.

I feel like I'm always stealing running time from something--I usually do my long runs when his staff are here for 5 hours on Sundays, but they've been off the last two weekends for the holidays so I'm totally off. I'm back to work Tuesday, so I guess I'll be stealing my running time from work this week. :) Next weekend I hope I can get back on track. These early sunsets and late sunrises don't help. Not feeling like a good start to the New Year--I could use a pep talk if anyone's got one to spare.

Hi Cate:) We have 8 weeks til race....that really is a long time to get long runs in:) I can relate to these sunsets....it starts getting dark here around 4:30...I may have to visit the TM at the gym soon...
Please dont worry about missing runs....you WILL be back on track, you still are!
My niece is autistic and the holidays and everything that goes along with it affects her as well....she is 6...bless you for everything that you do for your children.
Just keep thinking...you will be a Princess running through MK soon....its YOUR day!:goodvibes

There is technically free admission IF you book a WDW package through Disney.

The one more day offer is that guetss receive one day of admission and one night of your resort stay free with a stay of 3 or more nights with a minimum of a 3 day park pass. Arrivals must be February 26 through March 10, 2012. So if you booked 4 nights and a 4 day ticket, you would only pay for 3 nights and 3 days of tickets. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks. The website didn't have that part of the promo. I saw the commercial later last night. That will definately drive up the crowds. We are staying on DVC points so it won't change anything for us.

Thanks DisneyBride! I needed to hear that! We all went for a new year's hike instead, and it was lovely. We brought my daughter's best friend, so it was three 9-year-olds, and they had a spitting contest, a butt-slapping contest (ASD son was allowed to call no butt slaps for him but he could slap grown-up butts) and did a flashmob dance on top of the mountain, so while it wasn't my long run, it was a) active, b) fun, and c) good for the whole family. I even got a butt-massage....of sorts. :rotfl2:

I've been planning this since last April, so it's feeling really soon, and it's my first half so I really needed to hear from someone else that I've got time. I did 10 miles on my birthday in November, and I have a work trip where I will be able to do 12 in the end of January, so I should be fine...but sometimes you need someone else to tell you. Thanks for the pep talk! I've been scared of the TM (and the gym is such a zoo in Jan with all those NY resolutionists), so I haven't succumbed yet, but it could happen.

TY and Happy NY! :goodvibes

Happy New Year everyone! I start 2012 out with a 9.1 mile run this morning. I felf much better than I did the other day when I could barely make it 4 miles. The weather here was great today so that helped a ton. Tuesday might be a TM day. It's supposed to be cold and windy. YUCK! But I will get my 3 runs in this week. Happy training Princesses! princess:

Good for you! That is awesome! I am hoping for 4-5 miles tomorrow...I did something while stretching after my run yesterday...and didnt want to push it today..

Since my training has been inconsistent the last couple of weeks, I am behind on the training plan. This week I will be back to 3 runs a week, no excuses. As long as I can get up to 10 or 11 miles before princess, I feel confident that I will be able to finish.

you will get those miles in...once the knowledge is "in your toolbox"...knowing you have completed 10-11 miles...thats the confidence you will rely on to get you through, and that extra 2-3 miles will get you to that finish line!

We got our 9.5 run in yesterday afternoon - it was the longest I've ever run, and it felt great! (Mostly). I got a pretty bad pain in my hip around mile 7, to the point where I thought I'd have to stop, but I hopped off the treadmill and grabbed my foam roller. About a minute of rolling later, I was good to go!

I adjusted my intervals, too. I'm sticking with a 2/1 run walk, but I'm varying the pace of my runs, so it's like 2 minutes at 4.5 on the TM, then walk at 3, then run at 5.0, then walk at 3, then I start the pattern all over again. Kept me strong for the whole run, and only added 30 seconds/mile to my pace over doing all the runs a 5.0

That's said, I'm still probably running my long runs too fast. I'm having a hard time figuring out what I should be doing pace-wise.

PS! We just bought our tickets for the Pasta in the Park party. Anyone else going?

To those who do long runs on treadmill...:worship::worship::worship:

I can do 4 easily, 5 I get bored big time, so those who do the long distance on the treadmill I salute you.

No Pasta in the park planned right now.

I got 7 in today....yay, longest I have done since July. I walked the last mile and got so bored. I am really in a zen place with my intervals, currently doing 1/1. There is a little park I ended up at and did a few laps around the play field. There is a small hill next to the Playground and when I was doing boot camp there a couple years ago, we would run up the hill backwards, so did that 3 times to break monotony....though the last time I was "running" and well, after that my arch a little sore....but walked out another 1/4 mile.

Felt great today otherwise.....57, overcast and the last 2 miles were in a drizzle, cooled me off so nicely! Happily this slacker got in 3 this week....with the great freeze approaching us tonight, hoping I can keep it going. Going to get up to 10 and then I will be ready I think.

I am still debating my costume....either Belle or Mulan..... hey if I am limping along might was well look good.

oh and airfares sure dropped over the weekend...though Friday to monday is STILL a premium.

From one Julie to another, one day at a time. One week at a time. I got my 3 in this week for the first time in forever.......and like you, going up to 10 before.

We got this one......just got to remember to get our runs in before.

Been off the boards for a few months, but I went through the posts and you guys have me fired up again. I ran 11 yesterday, my longest EVER. Planned on 8, but felt good and just kept going. Felt like I could have gone even further, but did not want to over do it. Switched from 3:1 to 2:1 run/walk ratio and was actually a little faster than my last long run. It seems counter intuitive, but it seems to work for me. I am just so excited that there are other people, just like me, who have slowly, but surely gotten to a place where running is not only doable, but enjoyable. Thanks ladies (and a few gentlemen) for the inspiration! You rock!!!:yay:

No you rock! Nice work!

I ran 2 miles yesterday. It's all I could do. Plan n getting back to my 3 a week training. I really need to find a pregnancy support band/belt. The ab muscles don't do so well when you are on your 3rd pregnancy. At least I got out there. It's really help reading this thread again. Makes me excited.

Does anyone who ran last year remember the temperature at the start of the race? I remember being a little chilly and wishing I had a sweatshirt walking to the start. I am trying to decide if the weather for marathon weekend is around the same temperature so I know whether to pack a few throw away sweatshirts.

I remember last year being surprised that I wasn't that cold - and I hate cold, so it must not have been. I think I saw something on the rundisney fb page about weather for Jan. marathon is being predicted to be pretty mild. I remember it said there is a slight chance of rain, but very slight.

Morning, y'all!

I just called to see if those who've already booked & paid for hotel/park tix with the runners discount could still take advantage of the buy 3 get 1 free promotion. I was told no, that the discount we're getting is still a better deal. She said she supposed I could cancel my reservation, but she sounded doubtful it would be worth it.

Anyone else told anything different?

We didn't book through rundisney but usually with disney they do not ever let you combine discounts. So it would make sense that you can't combine the rundisney discount with the 3 night, 1 day free discount. You might want to price it out yourself and see if the 3 night, 1 day offer is better. I'm pretty sure with that offer you have to check-in on the sunday of the race through. So you'd have to check out of your hotel room then recheck back in. I'd be worried that it might be messed up and I'd be room less for a while in there the day of the race.

Sorry I was lost! We spent Christmas at Disney and we had a blast. Sadly I didnt do my runs. Tomorrow I will go back to training. Im so excited we are so close to the race. Also I just saw that the Tower of Terror race is back. My husband want to do that one. Who else is in??

Regarding weather last year. I THINK the start was like in the low 50's when we got to the parking lot...I had on a cotton zip up hoodie I got at Walmart which I discarded by the time we got to the corral as I was hot in it and didn't want to deal once the race started. No one else walking with me had on long sleeves.

Today I am wondering if any of the new Fantasyland will be opened up for the race....I saw somewhere Feb 18th for the very first phase, but of course they are tight lipped about it and can't find a confirmation.
