Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Hope everyone had a great race...I loved it and will definitely do again. Shout out to "regul8er" (probably spelled that a little wrong)thanks for saying hello on the course! I'm SO exhausted...went downhill fast today so we're spending some time in the hot tub this evening!

I'm getting ready to go and take a piping hot bath. My legs and ankles are on FIRE! I wasn't prepared for that. I also completely expected to have a lot of blisters but I didn't have a single one.

I thought that the party was great fun, and all attractions that we went on were 10 minutes or less.

Hope everyone had a blast, cause i did. my final time was 2:27:38. I threw up 3 times starting at mile 5. My right knee gave out on me at mile 8. Limp and ran the rest of the way. I was hurting very bad. I thought i wouldn't make it to the finish line. It was unbearable cause i had to stretch it every mile or so. Once i got through the finish line i was excited for my first medal and everything starts to fall in place from all the training i have done and all the prepping through out the last 5 months for this race. Got iced up and took some advil once i got to the hotel which was at 4:00am. My right knee still hurts and i dont now what it is but it is getting better. I won't be running in the next month or so. My favorite part of this was taking pictures with pluto, buzz, darth vator, old guy from UP, and Chief Mickey & Mini. I will do it again in january.

Congratulations Stephanie. The medal looks just like last year but I could have sworn someone posted a link to a light gold colored medal instead of silver.

Hey everyone!

I finished my first half - yay! My time was way off from where I was hoping it to be, but given some of the unexpected things that happened, I truly just happy to finish. Some of my personal experiences and observations are below :

Left my running socks at home which sucked so I bought a pair at the EXPO which were not identical to what I normally wear. Of all the dumb things to not remember!

Had a great time - will do it again for sure. The Cast Members along the way were great. The stretch between 13 and 13.1 was great - thought the signs were hilarious and the cast was still very energetic after having cheered for others for 3+ hours! Cast Members, however, do need to learn how to use the focus button on cameras - many of my character pictures were blurry!

Whoever said we had only one hill should have his Mickey Mouse ears taken away permanently ;)

Hated the Animal Kingdom park stretch - too congested and dark! I ran Everest and I don't remember it being that congested! I almost fell twice trying to get around others.

I pulled my hamstring at the hill where the Army Guy from Toy Story was shouting at "soldiers" to run up the hill. I should have not listened to him.

Thank goodness for BioFreeze at Mile 11 to make the hamstring numb.

By mile 9 the bottom of feet were burning so bad. I have never, in all my runs, experienced that. I have no idea why it happened last night, but I have never felt anything so uncomfortable. I did not enjoy my last four miles AT ALL. There were a few times that I truly didn't think I would make it.

I was told I only had 1/2 mile to go at least three times when it seemed like I had already gone a mile. The 12 - 13 mile stretch seemed to take forever!

I did not enjoy the after party at all. I was starving by the time I fininshed and the lines were incredibly long and my feet were burning to the point where I could not walk anymore. We ended up leaving and going to the 24 hour Taco Bell to get some food. I am glad we did, I felt soooooo much better after I ate.

I had the worst blood blister on my right foot - guessing that came from the new never tested socks I bought at the EXPO. I also think the second toenail on my left foot will fall off any day now ;)

I will really really really try not to stop for pictures or potty breaks next time to get a gauge of how slow I really am

Hello everyone, just got back after my first 1/2 yay its done!! I finished in 3:14:26. not great, but I'll take it. I was in coral D and I was happy with that. Thought the start was really good. I started too fast for the 1st mile and had to slow it down. Had to take an unexpected bathroom break after animal kingdom. I enjoyed Animal Kingdom though. Thought it was much better then the 5k that morning. I thought the hardest were the miles after leaving AK and getting to HS. My favorite was the Army guy, it was a much needed humor break. Mile 10, I thought I was not going to make it. One of the cast members looked at me and said "you'll make it, keep going" I really needed it. Appreciated all the people along the way who shouted encouragement. The one's who took the time to look at our names on the bib and give personal shouts were a nice touch.

I signed up for the Tinkerbell and The Princess so taking a short break, then back to training.

Congrats to everyone who ran it!!

Jennifer

I can barely move my legs today. I had to go get my youngest from my neighbor early this morning, and I wanted a wheelchair (not kidding - legs/feet-hips hurt that bad!). I hit a wall at mile 8, then did something to my knee at mile 10, but I FINISHED. That was totally my goal - and was pleasantly surprised that I maintained at 13-14 mile mile the whole time :)

I'm sure that my final time will make people go ehhhh...but in reality, a year ago I could not have done this. Two years ago I could not have done this. I lost 116 pounds and said if the weight ever left, I'd run one of the Disney races...and there I was.

And yes, I totally cried when I crossed the finish line, and the floodgates completely opened when my husband and I met up at the finish line party.

Congrats!!!! I lost 80lbs over the last year so I get where your coming from. Several times I got teary-eyed running because I know a year ago I would never have been able to do it. I'm the type of person who is always starts things, but never quite finishes. I'm not good with the follow through, always a ready excuse to quit. So for me, just going through the training and finishing the race was more than good enough for me.

I somehow pulled out my second best time every, even though I barely trained for this at all. I wanted to stay with my friends for this and we did a :45 run/1:15 walk. We stuck with it until the end too! Mile 12-13 seemed to go on forever!

While I had an overall better experience with this than I did last year, I don't think I'll be doing this one again. I will be out there volunteering if I don't run it though.

I did this last year as well as this year. There were a lot of problems last year. Disney fixed most of those problems.. not all. (ie. one hour to get my bag last year.. three minutes this year.)

I didn't see anyone fall down. Yes, it was dark in areas. (It's a night race)

There were lines at the kiosks, not nearly as long as there had been during the day.

I wish they would make more resorts "transportation" resorts...

I love this race, and will be doing it again next year.

home from our week long trip......the race was AMAZING!!! I couldn't believe how great it felt to run that.......so proud of my time and the fact that i was able to run most of it! only walked a little bit to drink and a bit at the end. my time for the 1st leg was 54:32 and my partner did her's in 1:42:04 for a total time of 2:36:36. My goal was to do it in 1 hour, so i was very proud of my accomplishment!! And i felt great during and immediatly after the race too!! my hips started hurting while i was walking around the party, which i wasn't impressed with.

got back to ASSp about 315am, and still made it to rope drop at AK by 9am. Ugh i was tired, but other than just some uncomfort, was feeling pretty good. until we sat to watch the movie by the pool about 8pm last night. got up 1/2 way thru to take DD to the bathroom and I thought my legs could collapse. calves and ankles have been hurting me since then........still limping and walking gingerly.

4 months ago i didn't want to ever run again! Now i'm ready to register for next years race and the 2013 Princess!!

Congratulations Stephanie. The medal looks just like last year but I could have sworn someone posted a link to a light gold colored medal instead of silver.

Thanks :)

I only saw the silver medals all throughout Epcot...unless the relay competitors received light gold ones?

And thanks to all for the kind words! Someone once told me once you did a Disney race, you would be bit by their "race bug" - they're certainly right, because I want to do another one ASAP!

We just got home today! What a fun trip! My DH and I ran together. We never train together b/c of kids, but it was fun to have company. I was really worried about being swept, but maintained a good pace and never saw them. The last 3 miles were hard for me, though. My training plan only took me to 10 miles. I suspect a second half marathon would be easier. But it will take a while. Baby coming in April!

I did it!!! My first half marathon....and yes I have already signed up for the Princess in February.

I ran/walked and finished in 3:29.....and am still in disbelief that I finished.....I don't believe I ever really believed I would finish....but I did!!

Yea Run Disney!

Congratulations Stephanie. The medal looks just like last year but I could have sworn someone posted a link to a light gold colored medal instead of silver.

They did post a picture where they looked gold, but they posted another one soon after saying it was a better quality photo which showed them silver. So I guess the firts picture was taken in different lighting or something. But everyone got a silver medal, no golden ones.

Is anyone else having issues finding your relay team results?? My team is not posted anywhere on the results page, I have searched everything. Not on any of the lists at all! I tried emailing the rundisney people, but no response yet

Were you a co-ed relay team? I couldnt find our results and then realized several pages down the list there is a co-ed heading and our results were under it.

Hi Everyone!

I finished my first half too! So excited to hear from Dagny and sunshine and krisnchris. Glad you guys had a great time too! Wish we could have met up. I probably ran (or walked or hobbled) right next to you at some point and didn't even know it!

I had a good time and will definitely do it again next year. I am contemplating the Princess Half. I think January might be a bit too soon :rotfl2:

I wanted to also say a big thanks to everyone that answered my questions and worries before the race, especially Coach, FireDancer and Roomthreeseventeen. Your advice definitely helped me to be better prepared than I would have been. So THANK YOU!!!!! :flower3:

I was really pleased with my time for the first 9 miles. I was averaging 14:00 minute miles while still stopping for pictures with all of the characters and every mile marker. Between AK and HS, there is an exit ramp that was my downfall. I had gotten winded and had moved all the way over to the right expecting to walk for a second when someone decided that instead of going around me they would try to go up on the curb and cut around me. Well, it was dark. He didn't completely catch the curb and came down on me, cutting me off. When trying to catch myself, I ended up twisting my knee (calling ortho after this post....I have priorities ). I ended up walking/hobbling the last 2+miles. I get that runners need slower people to the right, but I was as far right as I could go - he was out of line, and out of bounds, as far as I was concerned.

Anyway, aside from the horrible wait and bus ride over (I got in line at POFQ at 7:20 and didn't get to WWoS until 9 - I was refused when asked to get in the line for Mickey and Minnie)), I had a great time and hope to see you all again. Hopefully next time I can make the meet up too!

Michele
