Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Have any of the Disney races had these changing areas that they say will be in the finish area of the W&D? Just wondering what they mean by that exactly and if we'll have some sort of privacy?

Also, I noticed earlier today when I was on the race homepage that the post race party was showing 60% full...I hadn't noticed before that they were posting capacity on this...hopefully 60% is a good sign that it won't be the nightmare that I gather it was last year since they supposedly reduced the number of tickets available. The more I think about it though, the more I'm realizing I won't really have that much time to "party" anyway. I run a little over a 2:30 half at best (so far :)), add to that all the picture stops that I'm planning to finally take advantage of and I might be close to the 3 hour mark...at around 1am...get my bag, change and "freshen" up a bit, find my family, hopefully get my medal engraved and it'll probably be 2am by then! It's too bad the race couldn't start earlier. I've been avoiding even thinking about the fact that I have a hard time keeping my eyes open until 10pm on any given day...I'm sure I'll be looking like a zombie in my finisher pic at the end! I'm muuuuch more of a morning person...I have no issues with being up and perky and ready to go at 3am for a 6am race!

This is part of my incentive to 'get the lead out'. That and I'm running with someone 10 years my junior.

perky at 3AM is .... sick.

hahaha, I know it's weird. I get up at 4:30a for work (long commute) so I'm pretty used to winding down by 9-930 at night so I can get a decent amount of sleep. It was great for the DL half though...we got up at 2:30am and with the time zone difference that still felt like my normal 4:30...that night was a different story though. We ended up back at the hotel at 8:30pm (10:30 to my body!) and I was beyond exhausted. My BF was REALLY wanting to go down to the hottub so I decided to be a trooper and at least go with him...plus I was enjoying the fact that I needed to wear a hoodie outside since we came from 100+ temps!...didn't have the energy to change clothes though so I figured I'd go down and just dangle my feet in and keep him company...15 minutes later we're down there and I'm literally falling asleep sitting up...my head was bobbing forward and I'm pretty sure I was close to going face first in the hot tub. We didn't stay long. :lmao:

I'm sure everyone who has friends/family going to the after party already has their tickets. I was going to go to the after party with one of my friends who was running. She's no longer able to & I don't feel like going to the party by myself. So, If anyone still knows someone who needs one, please PM me. I get there in the evening on the 29th, so I can meet up with you to give the ticket to you. I'd be ok selling it for less than I paid since I won't have the $10 gift card yet.

I will be closer to a 3 1/2 - 4 hour finish time (if I stop for pictures) s so I won't have much time for fun either, which does kinda stink.

Oh, and how do you know your official finish time for the engraving??? Or are you using your own personal stop watch as the official timekeeper?

At least I'm in corral a and plan to finish under two hours. I also have my outfit planned, I can post some pics, I'm doing raggidy anne with blue tech shirt under and my cw-x compression 3/4 length, still debating on the hat, but will wear the hat at the after party. The hot dog costume would have been too hot, but at least its starting to get into the 70s again at night here in disney world, still high 70s, but better than the summer nights. I'm going to the Italian place at cagan crossing for lunch around 2, its about 15 minutes off property, but awesome food and portions for cheap prices.

I always take my phone and keys with me just incase, but cothes and food/drinks I always store with Disney!

Just my own experience...

The longer I run, the more sensitive my stomach gets. So even by the end of a run, water doesn't sound good or settle well. Knowing this, last year for the W&D Half, I packed a few packs of Gu in my checked bag for post-race. I knew "eating around the world" would not sound good to me. Well, my Gu obviously got stuck under lots of weight and exploded in my checked bag. All over everything. So be careful what you check and how you check it!

The company doing the engraving will have access to your official time. They will look it up by your race number and/or your name I believe.

I will be checking my bag for the Wine & Dine Half. (I am also having faith that they will have corrected last years issues.)

•I want to have something fresh to change into to enjoy the after party.
•I like to have some baby wipes so I am not all sweaty and sticky and gross.
•I may want to change shoes and socks.

Unless you are certain that your friends will be at a specific spot to meet you and you don't mind waiting until you find them, I would check your stuff.

Be aware that last year the cell phone circuits got slammed.

Great idea on the baby wipes - hadn't thought of that. Thanks Todd :)

I hope they have that thing they had last year where you could register your bib number and you could have an E-mail or text sent to you letting you know your times at certain points in the race (5K, 10K, etc.). This allowed me two things: 1) my husband posted these to FB for our friends to see and 2) he knew when I was finished so he knew to look for me at the end, (even though we had a meeting place picked out so I knew where to go).

I'm going to have my phone with me this year anyway, since I will have my sister and my friend running this race - we want to be able to find each other if we get split up. :)

Do you need to have cash for this or will they take credit cards, gift cards or room key?

I would say probably not gift cards or room keys as they are not official Disney merchants, much like the vendors at the expo.

I want to caution you that I've signed up for real time splits via text and/or email and it has worked about 10% of the time. I was just using them to have a record so it didn't matter but I wouldn't rely on this to inform someone waiting for you of where you were on the course.

I've always used cash...I think they will take a credit card too though, but I could be mistaken. Definitely no room keys or gift cards because it's not a Disney thing...outside vendor.

Well, it worked like a charm last year. But, I understand what you mean. I was nervous about it last year since I had no experience with it before. That's why we had a spot picked out.

My other 'wonder' this year is whether or not the "After Party" people will be able to come out in the parking lot to meet us at the end of the race, or do they have to meet us inside the park?

Im thinking that they will have us enter into the park after we finish. Like we get the medal, snacks, beer and wine tent, pictures, bags and into the park. I think this cause it will allow them to know who ran and then don't need tickets, also it said that they will have live video of start, relay exchange and finish, so this will make people stay in the park. Thats my guess, not sure though cause it is a new finish location and first time doing it this way. Also, wasnt the finish in the park last year? I just think thats the most feasible way to have us exit the race directly into the park.

The finish wasn't in the park per se, but it definitely dumped us into the park in World Showcase - after going through that ridiculously hot baggage pickup tent!! SO glad I didn't check a bag last year!! :rotfl:

Last year they gave us wrist bands to wear.... Just the way we finished we didn't need to put them on to get in. I would think this year, with the finish outside the park, we might need those to get into the park. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't need to keep that band on us.. or in a bag we can get to outside the park.

There also wasn't a "beer and wine tent"... There were the stands inside that we got a coupon for one drink and one snack we could use at any of those stands. They were the normal food and wine kiosks...
