Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Well, I ran my last long run before the 1/2..14 miles. Wasn't pretty, but I did it. Made it to about 10 miles before my feet started to hurt. Getting a little better each time. Hope everyone's training is going well

I have some questions maybe someone will know the answer to. My dh is running the half marathon, but he doesn't plan to attend the party. I HAD planned to hang out in Epcot until closing and then head to the finish line to wait. I just read though that there will be no spectator seating at the finsih line. There is no way I can physically stand around or sit on the ground until he finishes the race. Since my dh will not be using his ticket, can I? All I want to do is have somewhere to hang out until the race is over and then I can meet him outside of the park.

The runners don't get a specific "ticket". They get into the party by virtue of crossing the finish line and being guided into the park.

There is a finish line party wristband that will be apart of your registration packet that you will pick up at the expo. You are supposed to have it to go to the party.

You may want to go to the Yacht or Beach Clubs to watch - you can relax inside the hotel on the comfy chairs while you are waiting, and come out every now and then to cheer the runners on. There's some benches along the path if you're lucky enough to get one. Then you could take the race transportation bus from Beach Club to the front of EPCOT and meet him there (or if you have your own transportation, just drive).

You may be able to get in with his race wristband if he's really not planning on using it, but I think I read earlier in the thread somewhere that they weren't allowing runners into the park early (other people can get into EPCOT at 7 with the party ticket)

Great job Jennifer! Congrats on getting to 14 miles - that is awesome!!!

My run was horrible tonight. I only made it 2.6 miles and had to walk most of it. I didn't eat very well for lunch today and started cramping almost immediately upon running. I walked 90% of the 2.6 miles :( I am going to try to do another short run tomorrow before attempting my long run on Saturday.

I was feeling pretty good about the race last Saturday and now am back to being nervous about finishing. Ugh!

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive watch that can track my speed? I have done a majority of my training on the treadmill and it has been extremely helpful to know what pace I am running at. I have a Nike+ but have not been impressed with it at all. if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know! thank you!:goodvibes

I hope it doesn't rain.......i've never run in the rain and the idea does not sound fun!

Congrats Jennifer!! 14 miles is awesome!! Like you say, it does get better each time... and having exceeded the race mileage should give you some extra cushion than those of us who don't... I finished my longest yesterday, 11 miles, and was hurting from mile 10 on... I'm planning on miles 12& 13 not being very pleasant.

At least with the real race, there's a pretty medal waiting for us at the end!

Dag,
I am a little nervous too. I will definitely be at the back of the pack, but hopefully will be able to finish. I am going to think positive thoughts and pray that I've done enough miles in training.

I love my Garmin Forerunner... I've had the same one since 2005, so its a bit (ok, a LOT) bigger than the ones they sell now, but it's still hanging in there. I'd be lost without it.

I am also thinking positive thoughts. We can finish last together!

Which version do you have??? There seem to be 10 different ones! LOL

Hi everyone! I got into the runDisney meet up. Did anyone else on here get in? I'll be blogging about it as soon as I can!

You are ahead of me. My longest was 10 miles on Saturday and I was hurting after 8 miles! I had to walk the last 2 :( I had a horrible day today as well - my left leg is not cooperating AT ALL. Not sure if it is my hamstring, knee or calf, but the whole back side of my left leg hurts!

I wanted to, but I was hooking up a printer in another office and by the time I got back it was filled. :guilty:

Oh gosh, mine is so archaic... it looks like the 101? I dunno (and too lazy to go check it right now... )

I'm eyeing the 305... and actually kind of hoping that my oldie-but goodie Forerunner bites the dust so I can upgrade.

10 is awesome! And there's no shame in walking... (of course, I'm a bit biased since I'm a walker-only ;)). You're gonna get to that finish-line one way or another!

I have a Garmin 305 and love it. I don't really use the heart rate monitor so I could have gone with the 205 but Amazon had it for about $16 more and for $16 I'll take the heart rate monitor. I'm sure I'll eventually use it.

I would look at the Garmins, Timex Ironman GPS watches, and the Suunto GPS watches and compare the features and prices. I have heard good reviews on all 3 but can only speak personally about the Garmins.

I have a Garmin 205 and love it! Despite the size (it looks like I have a laptop sitting on my wrist :rotfl2:) it works great for tracking pace and distance. It's been very accurate too. Over the course of a 13+ mile run it was short by about .08 miles :) When I've used my RunKeeper and Nike+ apps on my iPhone to track pace and distance I've had those be short by over half a mile pretty consistently.

I have nike+ and I havent had any problems with it so far. Ive done 2 disney races at the beginning of the year and some more recently and its been pretty close for the distance! I keep it calibrated as often as I can and I have had no problems. One thing I always do though is forget to turn it off when I cross the finish line...guess im just too excited and forget! :yay: but compared to the prices, since I already have a iphone....$25 is really cheap. Those watches can cost $100's, so of course they will be more accurate and have more features! My roomate had a garmine and didnt like it, she sold it after using it at the wine and dine last year...wouldn't charge right and didnt work like it should.

Runkeeper on my Iphone works perfectly. Dead on distances. (Iphone 4)
