Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Got my long run of 7 miles done this weekend. It went well. Long runs to go: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 8, 13.1

Less than 7 weeks to go! Keep it up y'all!!!

Does anyone have any idea what the finish line area will be like for this race? I'm wondering if it will be set up for or even accessible to spectators? I hadn't thought about it before because I just assumed I was meeting up with some family at the after-party but they expressed interest in seeing us finish...then I noticed on the race website in the "spectator resources" area that they only discuss after-party tickets. No mention of bleacher viewing, Chear Squad packages....so now I'm thinking there may not even be spectators allowed at the finish...anyone have any info? :confused3

The finish will be in the parking lot this year if I remember correctly so I don't think they will keep spectators from being there. They might not have bleachers set up but I think if your friends or family want to wait near the finishing area Disney won't keep them away.

Yeah, that makes sense...thanks! I guess I'll just make sure we have a Plan A and Plan B before we part ways before the race. I sent an email to runDisney too so maybe they will respond with some info.

I have never posted before..

But last year on the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club was a great place to cheer people on. The course is different this year,- It ended at the international gate last year.. But I think they should be able to cheer from there, then go through the international gate to the party and meet you inside.

I wasn't sure I'd make it for 8 this week, just b/c I missed my Thu training run, and we threw a party for my DS's 4th this weekend. Well, after having to switch to my old shoes (b/c my current ones were in the back of the car my DH had) and problems w/the GPS not picking up, I finally got started, and felt really good, so I kept going. My pace was super-slow (in the 17's), but considering missing a training run, and this being my first big increase since finding out I'm expecting, i didn't want to push it. Very proud I did 8, and it gives me hope that I can do this thing as long as my changing body is ok with it! Very encouraged that I did 8 without problem! Only a few more long runs! Hooray!

Oh, another thing, my phone battery died after 8 miles, so I don't think it will last 13.1! I run jogtracker and pandora on it. I think I'm ok to just let it go and then go on adreneline @ the race, but worried about how I will find my DH, who is a faster pace. Anyone have a good meeting spot? Finish line or is that crazy?

Normally the finish line areas are set up so that after you cross you are given your medal, pass through the area with drinks and snacks, then you take your finisher picture and then you end up in the large open area with bag check...there will also be a number of smaller tents labeled with letters of the alphabet. Just agree on a letter pre-race and meet up the corresponding tent. I have not run this particular race, but the one I have run, in addition to the 3 I was a spectator at (all were Disney races), all worked this way and I did not have a problem finding the people I was meeting up with.

Wine and dine wasn't like that last year. BUT... everybody hated the way it was and I think that's why they moved the finish this year. They also did away with the "out and back" part of the course.

I was able to finally get a 8 mile run in :). I wasn't able to run for about two so I was worried that was going to be behind in my training. Little did I know that not running for two weeks was going to be the least of my problems training wise. Soccer season is starting and the club that coach at just let me know that instead of two hours five days a week they are having me coach foot skills for 3 hour five days a week and that is on top of a 40 hour work week. It will be fun finding time to run.

I have really been slacking and now is not the time to do it! I have ran once in almost two weeks. We had a garage sale last weekend so I spent alot of time working on that, and this week school starts for both me and my daughter, BUSY!

is there transportation for spectators back to the resorts from WWOS after the start of the race? Dh won't be going to the after party with me because we don't want to spend $125 for a sitter, but I would like them to be there at the start of the race.

Good evening everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I am going to try to catch up on what has been going on. We just got back from our family vacation to Europe (does the name Griswald's mean anything to you ;) ) I was only able to get one 4 mile run in during our vacation due to our busy schedule, but we did lots and lots of walking and more stairs than I care to remember. As soon as my jetlag wears off, I plan on hitting it pretty hard to "catch up" on my training schedule. Can't believe we only have 6 weeks to go! Yikes!!!!

Did we ever get shirts made up for this race? I want to be sure I didn't miss anything :p

Anyone from Ontario planning on doing the Run for the Grapes in St. Catharines on Sept.18th? I was thinking of doing this as my final test and long run before the Wine and Dine.

ME, ME, ME :cool1:

I'm signed up already! It will be my last run before the 5K Halloween Family Run and then the Half that evening. I was thinking of running the Oakville Half the weekend before but thought I better not ;) So excited!!!!

Great! I was just wondering if anyone else does something like this so close to each other...W&D was going to be my first half but I guess this one will be...at least I will know if I can do it before I get there...this one is a 3 hour time limit though...I should be ok though....hopefully!! lol
You have the same schedule as me! I am also doing the 5K with my family and then the half at night by myself...

Okay we have to meet up at the Grapes Half before getting to Disney. Send me your bib # and hopefully we can find each other. It would be great to meet another Ontario Dis'er Runner :cool1:

Hi all -

Regarding shirts - given my crazy work schedule between now and the run, I dont' think there are going to be any shirts. Sorry guys. :(

Also, I have also been slacking off on running too. Glad I am not the only one... sorta. These last few weeks I have only been able to get 3 or 4 mile runs in on the treadmil in the evening maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and there was a 15 day stretch where I didn't do my 8 mile run, ack! But, on Tuesday I did 8 miles and I plan to do another 8 today. I feel like I am ready for this 1/2 marathon but I want to keep my running consistant between now and then. Actually, its funny because I was expecting to feel horrible after so may days off on my recent long run, but I felt GREAT! Maybe I truely am morphing into a runner. :)

Getting pretty excited about this! Looking forward to seeing all of you there.

Oh! Does anyone else do runkeeper? If so, I want to add you to my street team. My runkeeper name is OregonGirl and I am a RunKeeper Elite. Please join my street team!

- Carey

i use Runkeeper but i have no idea what street team is! i just use the App on my droid to tell me how far i've gone....i like that it talks to me.

That would be awesome. Some races will email you your bib # about a week to a few days before, others don't. You will know when you pick up your race packet. I will probably not be picking mine up until that morning, but let me know when you go pick yours up.

Also check my blog, there is a post (not the cottage post) of my last race in Toronto, you can see pics of me and maybe you will recognize me ;)
