Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Oh my goodness! That sounds serious. So sorry to hear that it's worse than I thought. I did have a soreness inside my ankle joint once, but it went away. I had a light bruise. I think it happened when I turned around to look behind me, as I stomped down on my foot.

I have heard of moleskin, but never tried it, THANKS! :)

I'm really hoping it's just an internal bruise too. Rest and ice will help that. I'm going for an xray this afternoon. They're checking for fractures and said if that's what it is, no marathons of any kind for me. :sad1: Pretty pretty please just be a bruise or something that heals fast!

I 2nd the running shoes in carry on bag. I would also pack your race day socks, race outfit and anything that you have road tested in your carry on. Having to buy new tights/shorts/skirt/socks that you aren't familiar with could really chafe you (literally) at mile 10ish.

Make sure to pack the following, ignoring things you don't normally wear of course!:
Shoes
Race Outfit
Throwaway sweatshirt/pants/blanket
Cheap throwaway gloves/hand warmers
Sunscreen
Hat/Visor/Bondi Band/hair ties
Running belt
Race fuel - sports beans, gus, etc.
Body Glide (or equivalent)
Bandaids/blister block/moleskin
Advil/Tylenol/Aleve
Ziplock baggies for ice packs

GREAT list! I'm printing it! I had a list like that in my head for my carry on backpack, but forgot the ziploc baggies and extra hair ties. I wasn't going to pack the gels because of their "laws", but just read that they are 1.44 oz a piece which is under that 2oz. limit.

Dumbo buddy - I didn't start exercising seriously until my kids were like 4 years old! You're doing awesome and better than me. No rush - your child needs you to be healthy and it takes time to lose weight healthily.

Saylan - Good luck with that xray.

rnronda - You are so brave to have gone through that GB. and all of it afterwards!!! I am so glad it went well and you are achieving your goals. You're a go getter, that's for sure! Congratulations!!

Just losing 10-15 lbs. from running and weightlifting made a huge difference in my blood pressure and cholesterol.

I think I will sign off until the race is over. I don't want to know what the medal looks like by reading it here, by accident.

Good luck everyone and God Bless you all!!

"Well, there is my story. It seems a little shallow compared to the amazing stories that honor your friends and love ones. But I am learning to honor myself. We are all so much stronger, more couragous, and beautiful because of the time that we have spent getting ready for this race. The scale does not matter compared to the changes that we have made in our spirit. "

WOW! YOU are inspiring! Your story is not "shallow" at all! How triumphant you will feel crossing that finish line! You go girl! :cheer2:

So I just have to say I have some exciting news about this trip... This will be my first trip as a pending cast member!

Yesterday I was accepted into the WDW College Program as a lifeguard starting in August. I'm still applying for Disney Internships, but either way I'll be coming to Disney in the summer to work. So not only will I be celebrating finishing, but also getting a job after I graduate in June .

Keep up all the great training princess (and some princes)! We're almost 1 week out and we're going to rock this race :cheer2:.

Congratulations!! My father in law hopes to work at WDW when he retires. You two could be bookends :)

Congrats! I loved being a cast member! I'm sure you will too!!!!!

Eek! I had a terrible dream last night. In my dream I didn't wake up in time for the race and I didn't make it to Epcot until 11am, wearing my number and crying because there was no place to park and the race was over. Some nice cast member gave me a banana and made me a "medal" out of trash on the ground and said if I cleaned up all of the trash on the ground I could get my picture taken with Mickey Mouse.

I will be double/triple checking my alarm so that I'm not on trash duty on running day! :rotfl:

I need to share a triumph. I have lost 100 pounds in the last 6 months. Well, there is my story. It seems a little shallow compared to the amazing stories that honor your friends and love ones. But I am learning to honor myself.

Congratulations! That is awesome!!!!!!!!!

And good on ya for honoring yourself. I think that is often one of the hardest lessons to learn in life. It's harder to put oursleves first even when it comes to our health. But we kept be there for our loved ones if we're too sick/unhealthy.

So very proud of you!!!

I must "glisten" more than most princesses because I totally soak through 1 in about 5 miles. Luckily I ordered 5. :goodvibes

Oh, girl, I wear a ball cap for that same reason. And dark tights/capris ;)

Anyone else trying to pack for the whole weekend in carry-on bags? I'm flying SW on the way down, but Delta on the way back. I can check a bag going, but coming home I'll have to pay to check a bag:headache:

Roll your clothes instead of folding them. You'll be able to cram...I mean, fit...more in ;) And if you take mostly tech stuff, it won't wrinkle. Yay, synthetic fibers!

I was so porud of myself -- I bought a fuzzy robe from The Salvation Army Thirft Store today ($3!!!) for the corral and was thinking how nice and toasty I'll be. NOW I realize that thing is gonna take up most of one carry-on bag!! <headslap>

I am waiting till i get to Fl to get my throwaway robe/coat/ blanket. It will def be from thrift store or walmart. Leaving Sunday to stay with my sister near Sarasota and ti DW on sat. Can't wait!

I have had TWO bad race day dreams already!!! Stuff forgotten, lost, late, etc.

I need to share a triumph. I have lost 100 pounds in the last 6 months. :cool1:I had gastric bypass surgery 6 months ago, but I totally give credit to training and to the inspiration you ladies have given me. I say this because my surgeon said that that is the fastest she has ever had someone lose that much weight (who works nights). Before I had the surgery I met with a physical therapist who suggested that I take up running. Specifically in races and endurance. I laughed out loud. I couldn't even imagine it. 2 bum knees and arthritus in both. So after I had the surgery and I found myself sitting on the couch still I had to ask myself what would I run for. Well, I used to run for food, that was out. But I also remember running for Disney. No where elese would I put in 3-5 miles in a day (and that seemed like a lot).

Well, there is my story. It seems a little shallow compared to the amazing stories that honor your friends and love ones. But I am learning to honor myself. We are all so much stronger, more couragous, and beautiful because of the time that we have spent getting ready for this race. The scale does not matter compared to the changes that we have made in our spirit.

So I thank you all. These boards have gotten me off my butt and encouraged me when I had a bad run or even worse no run at all. :scared1: I thank you all for your advice and your stories.

Holy Moly!!! Great job!! And I echo the others - that is not a shallow reason to run this race at all.

So I just have to say I have some exciting news about this trip... This will be my first trip as a pending cast member!

Congratulations! I think it would be so fun to work at Disney World. My oldest son wants to be an imagineer. My husband wants to drive the buses at Disney World when he retires.

I hope it's everything your dreaming it will be!

Just wanted to let everyone know about some conflicting info I got about ChEAR Squad in case any of your family or friends are participating. When the "final race instruction" email went out last week, there was a link there for ChEAR Squad final instructions that stated CS participants needed to bring with them their ID and a CS waiver to pick up their stuff...and that the waiver was on the website for download. I'm picking up for my Dad and Grandfather...couldn't find the waiver so I called...and was told that was a mistake, there was no waiver link and CS participants would NOT need a waiver. Well, I was online earlier today to download the CS Pick Up Authorization form for my Dad to sign, and saw that there now WAS in fact a link to a CS waiver. So, wasn't sure if anyone else had received the info I did, but I'm having them sign the waiver to bring with me just to be on the safe side.

I'm only staying 2 days but I'm checking a bag...JetBlue allows one checked bag so I'm checking because I can!
also because I'm packing glow sticks and disposable ice packs (the kind you break)
I will be carrying on my shoes, but not my clothes (most of my stuff comes from Target so if the worst happens I'll just go buy duplicates)
I also plan on bringing a travel mug and tea bags, I just can't wake up with out my tea!

I skipped my swim Monday and my run Tuesday due to this awful cold that's going around. Thankfully I'm feeling better today, so I'm off to the pool in a bit. The weather is gorgeous here today, I hope it stays for my run tomorrow!

One more thing to pack - Lactaid or some kind of tummy med. I tend to be a little sensitive to getting a funky stomach. Many of us might be eating stuff we don't usually eat b/c we are "on vacation" and paired with the nervousness and excitement of race day....well, let's just say that you really don't want to spend most of the race checking out ALL the porta-potties!!!

Question - for V-Day my uber-thoughtful hubby has made an appt for a massage for me at the spa in our hotel for Sunday evening. LOVE the idea, but am reading some things that say massage within 48 hrs after a race is not recommended. Any thoughts on this? The man doesn't often do things like this and I do NOT want to squander a massage! :lovestruc I'm thinking maybe it's okay if I tell them to just stick to the back and shoulders but hands off the legs?!?!:confused3

To the person who lost 100 lbs ( I think rnronda?) - you should be SO proud of yourself! I hear of a lot of people who have the GB surgery and think that it will cure all their problems. They don't change their lifestyle and end up going through all that for nothing. You are creating healthy habits that truly will change your life. Way to go!

I skipped my regularly scheduled run last night, but went to my zumba class. I ran there (at a friend's house 2 blocks away), and everything felt good. My son has a cub scout ice skating outing tomorrow, so I will run on the track they have there while he skates. Strangely looking forward to it.:confused3

I think everything is good again. No pain today! Today was suppose to be yoga but I stayed up all night (literally) working on homework for my classes. So I came home and crashed. Early bed tonight and then zumba in the morning (I love my zumba classes!) and an easy run tomorrow.

I know what you mean about looking forward to it. I had been in a monster funk for about two weeks. Sick so I couldn't run outside, busy at work so I had missed a few of my zumba classses. Last Tuesday I finally got back to zumba and had my first run outside. I felt AMAZING afterwards and the funk was gone!:cloud9:

Also I will be bringing 3 bondibands. I must "glisten" more than most princesses because I totally soak through 1 in about 5 miles. Luckily I ordered 5. :goodvibes

I have been wondering if I am the only one that will be "glistening". Honestly, I can't even imagine getting close enough to characters to take pictures during the race because I will be so glistening that it is gross! Now that it will be warming up....

Eek! I had a terrible dream last night. In my dream I didn't wake up in time for the race.

I will be double/triple checking my alarm so that I'm not on trash duty on running day! :rotfl:

For the WDW marathon in Jan (Hubby is a finisher!), we set the alarm clock, had a wake-up call from the resort (love that Stitch: "get moving!!"), AND has his folks call us at a set time.

We'll be doing the same this trip.

Now I just have to figure out my coffee fix. Staying at Pop Century this trip (Hubby refused to believe it would be tough to find a room and we should book ASAP--SIGH) and I hear they don't have in-room coffeemakers.

Okay, I'll make a deal with you - I'll bring you a coffee from home (I live 10 min away!) if you give me a wake-up! :rotfl: Just kidding - I'm not a coffee drinker, you wouldn't want anything that I make! :scared1:
