Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Those of you who are running alone - do you ask nearby runners to take you picture at times or near the mile markers?
I desperately wants millions of pictures but don't know what the Disney etiquette is :goodvibes

I ran solo for my leg of the wine and dine half relay. I had cast members along the course take pictures with characters, and I'll probably do the same for a few pictures in front of the castle. I took pictures of all the mile markers, but wasn't in them. I'm not someone who is bold enough to ask another runner to stop and take my picture, but if someone is there, or asks me to take their picture, I would probably ask them to return the favor.

I got my 10 miles in on the treadmill today. I seriously hope the snow melts before next weekends 11 miles!

I have to agree with this somewhat. The first half I did, I also only went to 10in training and only once. I finished fine and you will too. However, I promised myself at about mile 11 that next year would be different. In 2010, I went to 11 and shaved off 10.5 minutes and this year I've already done 11.25 (ok was supposed to do 12 but the treadmill was killing me!) and plan to do two 13's. ~~~Jennifer~~~

I'm also planning to run the race distance at least once during training. I will need to be able to chant "been here, done this" to myself when the going gets tough.

BouncelikeTigger and Trudes on your CW-Xs. I hope you love them as much as I do. Just got my smalls. I'll be trying them out today.

Scheduled for 7 today. I might try to push it a little farther though. I feel nervous about only training up to 10. Anyone remember your first 1/2? Did you train more than 10 before? Was 10 enough?

Oh yes, I remember my first half, it was just 3 months ago. My training program only took me to 10 miles, and mentally I thought it wasn't enough, I tweaked my training and ran 12 miles. For me, 12 was a lot different then 10. Even with the Princess Half, I am going to do a 12 mile run in my training. I need to know that I am ready mentally and physically.

Honestly though, I DO believe that if you run 10 in your training, you can do 13.1 on race day.

I wore my CW-X for my long run today. It was my first long run in them and I do LOVE them. They just feel so stinkin' good. The sizing seems to have been right on for me. I got the tights, and now I'd like a pair of capri's.

Whoo hoo, I ran 2 hours and 3 minutes (but who's counting :))on an indoor track tonight. I was very prepared mentally for this run and I hoped my body was ready for it physically. And... it was. It really wasn't a bad run, having to run indoors. 14 3/4 laps = a mile, so it was a lot of laps. I broke it down into segments. My first marker was that I was 1/8 done, then 1/4, before I knew it, I had run an hour, and I was already half done. I was feeling really good at one hour. It didn't take long and I was 3/4 done. I knew at that point I was going to make it and make it strong. It was a good run.

I am also happy about this run because last weekend I ran 1.5 hours/8 miles on the treadmill and today I easily added 30 minutes to my run.

I tried sports beans for the first time and I liked them. I liked them much better then the Shot Bloks. They were too big of a wad in my mouth. I have a GU packet to try yet, but I am not sure I can do GU, it's a texture thing.

I made it outside too! 10 miles!!! I'm so happy I'm finally into the double digits! And man, oh man, it was pretty rough. Started out sunny and 34 degrees, but about mile 3, the sun went away for the rest of the run and the wind picked up, so it got pretty cold. And this is my first run with the Garmin that my sister's BF let me borrow, so cool!! I did an out and back route, so I knew when 5 miles was for sure. Kept a 12:30 pace, which was pretty cool, I'm hoping for a sub-11 pace for the race.

Knees are sore and my right calf is really tight. I stretched the calf really well after the run because it started to get tight about mile 3, but now I'm worried I over-stretched it. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. So glad that run is over now!

I ran 10 today also for the first time. I was super proud!!

My friend and I did 12 yesterday. Yeeehhhawww.

2 fears conquered:

1- I don't do cold. It was cold. I did it. It didn't suck too much. I have been freaking about race day being in the 20s and how I would just not even be able to get out of bed. Well, yesterday proved I could do it in 27 degree weather (to start- was 40 something when we finished). I feel way better about the race now.

2- I walked 12 freakin miles in 15:20 pace. And I wasn't dying- ie, I could have pushed more if I had to. So that pace + not being in the last corral due to previous time = This bad boy is gonna happen! Sweepers NO Sweeping!

I am feeling way more confident about doing this race and think it's going to be a loads of fun! :) Congrats on those long runs ladies- holy cow- a lot of effort to do it on the TM OR out in the cold temps. WTG!!!

It was 25 degrees when I left the house today and I momentarialy though "and I'm doing this why?" I figure by the time feb. 27th rolls around I'll be ready for shorts and a tank. LOL

Do you know how much the discount is?

I don't know the actual discount but when I priced it it seemed to be around $55-60/day depending on # of days

I was kind of wondering that. I hear people say that people just fall into a rhythm with other single runners, but that concerns me a little bit. While not typically shy, I am certainly not assertive in these type of situations(uh hello, read the thread for 5 months before I finally posted) I too want lots of pics.

Wendy

If it makes you feel better I'm the same way. Heck I've been around since 2001 and still have <400 posts. I like to read along but don't often comment.

I've done most of my training alone so I'm not too concerned about doing the race alone but I'd be happy to chat (or take a picture for) with anyone that wanted to during the race.

After 5 more weeks of training, I will have run 13.1 at least once, I will be better prepared, I will be better conditioned. In 5 weeks, I WILL run better.
In 5 weeks, I'll be at Disney, running with Princesses! Whatever the outcome, even if I am swept, what a journey I'll have had, what amazing things I'll have learned, what amazing memories I'll have! princess:

Hang in! We're doing it. One run at a time. One lesson at a time.

This brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for the encouragement!

Merci

Agreed (and thanks!!)! My two goals for this one are: 1) don't get swept, 2) cross that finish line.

I'm trying to reframe the "bad" parts of any runs into what they really are: learning experiences. For instance, now I have some experience dressing in layers for a cold start and having to shed layers on the move and what it feels like when I begin to overheat. Ddefinitely bringing some extra throwaway layers for race day!!!) These are all good things to know BEFORE race day, so better they happen in training runs.

And I keep going back to what Hubby said, "in 5 weeks, you will be ready."

It's the big 12.5 today.

I was hoping to get outside for it, but mother nature gave us another dusting of snow. The high is 29 for today, so I may wait it out a little bit and see how the salt works before heading to the track. Maybe it's time to invest in some yaktrax.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but I'm thinking of doing the marathon next year. Maybe even the goofy!:scared1:

Hi everyone! I've been MIA for a week or so. The kids school schedules were insane with homework and field trips and so on. :confused3

I'm following the Jeff Galloway 1 min run/1 min walk and it's been great for keeping me at a 13 min mile. The longest distance I've done has been 8 miles so far, so I have to get moving. My long run this week is Thursday since I'm off work that day.

I worked on my outfit today and when it's done I'll post a picture next week.

I turned 35 today. princess:

Happy belated birthday, Yogamama! :bday: party:

HEY I turned 37 today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY :)

We are staying at the Saratoga for the race.....can my DH drop me at one of the transportation hotels and take the bus from there?

:confused3:confused3

So, my run yesterday didn't go as planned :confused3 I had set out to do 6 - 7 miles and barely got 4.5  I am really trying hard not to beat myself up over it because I'm coming off a stress fracture, so the fact that I'm not in any pain is a good sign I think?? The other positive, although it isn't great, i did stay under 15 min miles but right about 55 mins into my run, i go the worst headache ever! I think it had to do with me coming right from work and not eating good??? At least that is my hope. Tuesday is my "short" run day so i'm going for 4 miles again tomorrow and thursday is my run training where I do different inclines/speeds to build up some kind of endurance.... :headache:

Tonight i'm doing weights and abs.... I just don't want to be swept up.... the stress that is causing me is crazy..... I just have to let it go.

Please Please Please tell me that there is hope for me!!! :grouphug:

You should be able to, but he could also drop you off at Epcot's parking lot so you wouldn't need to take the bus at all.

we figured that there would be less traffic at a transportation hotel....just trying to figure out the best option...as we have three little ones with us and don't want to have to get them up at 4 in the morning...my mom will stay at the hotel with them, while my DH drops off....

There is absolutely hope for you!!

So glad to hear that there isn't any pain.

We will get through this, I promise!

Just had to share this quote:

"I don't rate myself as a fantastic, talented athlete. I just have perseverance. I'm a cart horse. I work hard." --Colleen DeReuck, Four-time Olympian

Maybe one of my mnatras will be "Yah, mule!" ;)

There's always hope!! The headache could have been lack of energy (calories/food) or also dehydration. Drinking your water? (I know I'm struggling with that right now. Too much coffee, not enough straight H20)

You're also cross training! Good for you! All I've managed to get in is my running (pure laziness on my part). Points to you for strength training, too!!!

I'm a bug fan of preventing injury/completely rehabbing injury. You have made the smart choice here. :thumbsup2 Be patient with yourself as you "get back on the horse."

I have decided that each run has its own personality--some are cuddly puppies, some are junkyards dogs:rotfl2:. And every completed run is a good run.

Hang in! Throw that imaginary rope around us here on the board and let us pull ya along for a bit, if you need a breather! :goodvibes
