Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Did anyone else notice that the start/finish area on the race program doesn't match the course on the website (and the link provided in the e-mail last night)? I would think the program is correct cause the marker for mile 1 and mile 2 seem extremely close together in the website version. I ran just over 5 miles today and I was checking to see where in the course I would have been to visualize.

Yeah, I noticed that too...I had posted on this thread a while back questioning that 1 and 2 being so close on the online map. The one in the race program makes SO much more sense.

On tu-tus - if anyone is small and can wear children's sizes, there are some cute ones at Costco. Y'all had me almost thinking about buying one yesterday...but I just invision myself yanking it off and cursing it. I got hot during a run last week and took off my top layer and tied it around my waist - even that annoyed me, so I think I shouldn't even entertain the idea of something fancy. But anyway - they had white, black, pink, and purple I think. DS didn't want to spend too much time looking at them :lmao:, so I don't have a great report, but they did seem soft enough.

AFM, 3 degrees here this morning so there goes my plan for a morning 10 miler. It is supposed to get into the 20's so I'll wait until the double digits hit before going out. I also have a bit of a sore throat, but I'm trying to will that away! :wizard:

Also speaking of tutus :lmao: I bought some on ebay, I bought some kid ones for my DD to wear at Disney (too cute) and a hot pink one for the 5K for her. I bought the teenage one for me and ofcourse too big. If anyone wants to buy it let me know. Here is the ebay listing that I bought from:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ballet-Tutu-Gir...drens_Clothing_Girls&var=&hash=item6b1aed5f5b

So I have the hot pink one here and I will sell it alot cheaper than ebay since I can not use it :sad2:

Reading the race program has made me part nervous/ part scared. But still overall excited! I am scheduled to do a half marathon tomorrow, and I am happy it's starting to warm up here a little. I am supposed to do 11 miles this weekend. In my typical delusional/overacheiving fashion many months ago when I was running 3-4 miles, I figured 11 miles and 13 miles were close enough I could just go ahead and do it :rotfl2: My only comfort is that the course is open for 8 hours (there's a marathon as well), and the start is down the street from me. I am just going to have to make sure I don't overdo it because of the excitement of being in a race.

Is it ok to break up long runs on occassion? We are going out of town in a couple of weeks ( am supposed to do 12 miles), and there is a 10k I thought I would do so I would have a time to submit for corrall placement. But would it be ok to do 6 miles in the morning and then in the evening? Or would that mess up the training?

Hope everyone has fabulous runs and the weather warms up/ice and snow melt

Unfortunately the UPS man didn't arrive until 6 so no run... but I did get to Old Navy. I bought a sweater for 4.18 and some glow necklaces for .58. They had a lot of warm sweaters. I think I'll head to the thrift store for a warm blanket and I'll be complete for throw away clothes.

I'm going to try for an 11 mile run this weekend; I really need to stop skipping runs.

I am so behind in training...but must do longer run this weekend! And I will head to Old Navy to check it out! Thanks!

I did a short run in my sparkleskirt today at the gym. I figured I'm wearing my bright green WISH shirt so what the heck! :rotfl2: It was the sparkletech shorts/skirt (black diamond). They were very comfortable. :thumbsup2

Oooh, that's the one I want! Must get on it asap!

I use my iPhone when I train. I have an armband but it is sooooo uncomfortable. Right now I'm on a TM because of the crazy snow, so I just put it on the ledge. When I run outside I usually carry it. Is there another option, maybe like a belt or something? I absolutely need my iPhone. It has my music and tells me when to run or walk. I can't imagine doing the Princess without it. Any suggestions?

Also, I have a running skirt that is attached to pants. Do you think it will be too hot at the Princess to use that?

I stick my iPhone in my hydration belt on long runs. Short runs are in the treadmill
I have a spibelt that I love for races. I ran a thanksgiving half with my phone, 3 gu packets and some cash and didn't feel it at all.

I second the person who suggested a SpiBelt. I don't own one but have borrowed my friend's. I'm debating between a two-pocket Spi Belt or a double pouch iFitness belt because I want to carry my Droid phone and my camera. Anyone have the iFitness one? I think it has loops that I could put SportBeans in which would help too.

I'm thinking about the Sparkle Skirt with the shorts attached that has the 12 inch pocket that might serve the same purpose as the belt. It looks like the pocket is right across front of the waist though, not sure I want that bulk on my stomach (OK, not looking for the bulge in the pictures, I'll admit it!) - the belts can be moved around or lowered onto the hips. Anyone have that one yet who can comment??

If it were me, pants or capris would be too hot for the half but I get very warm. Both times I've run this race I've been down to tank top & skirt by mile 5 (the entrance to MK!!). Although, in 2010, I was chilly after leaving MK on the long road back to Epcot...it was a bit windy and my arms got cold for a little bit. The sun definitely warmed me back up though!

Happy running!

I have the ifitness belt and love it. Mine does not have loops. Mine does not bounce at all. In races, I have seen runners with the spi belt, and it moves around way more than mine. Don't like that. It would drive me crazy.

I have a fuel belt that is a number holder that has a pocket infront and I bought an iphone pouch that slides on and I usually wear it on teh back. I love it and it doesn't move around much at all.

Here it is without the iphone pouch.....and by the way I love the humber holder, no more safety pins ;)

And here is the iphone pouch I slip on it when I run with my iphone which isn't very often b/c I like my tiny ipod for music

Hope that helps

How do you know which corral you are in? Is it in with your bib?
I wish I had found these boards months ago.

I am staying at new Orleans riverside and it looks like it is only a mile to the start. Thinking about just walking over there.

I also don't understand how the corrals work, I mean I get that faster in front but doesn't everyone just start when the gun goes off? I am so confused.

I did learn about sparkle skirts from this board and already ordered one. I hope I have the nerve to actually wear it.

Thanks for lots of great info in this thread.

Apparently your corral is on your bib and there are several start times for the different corrals so no not everyone starts at the same time. The times for each corral are in the race pack they emailed out. Corral A leaves at 5:45, B @ 5:53, C @ 6:01 and so on.

Definately wear your sparkle skirt. Alot of people will be wearing them and tutus and costumes so you are not alone.

I did not get anything emailed to me, other than the confirmation of registration. Should I be concerned? Who should I contact?
You guys are great!

I haven't been in this race, but as for the ones I have where there are different Corals....they group you in the staging area by Corral. If you are in Corral B...you can't get up to Corral A. They have it roped off. As the race starts everyone is grouped...after group A leaves...then group b will walk to the start and wait for whatever the "GO" cue is.... gun, fireworks, whatever.... SO if you are fast, try to be in the front of your corral so you have less people to pass..though you could catch up with people from the corral in front of you. Make sense?

I can't wait to sparkle at the race.....people will be in tutus and costumes, though some will just be in everday running clothes. WEAR YOUR SPARKLE WITH PRIDE!

Booked my air last night!!:cool1:

Stayed up late & just happened to get the urge to check the Spirit website---$47 each way, then a $24 off promo!! Boy did that late night pay off. :thumbsup2

There's no turnin' back now:banana:

There is a link on post #275.

Thank you!
Has anyone rec'd the waiver that they said was being emailed?
Is a waiver available at the Expo?
I haven't been concerned about this half until I found this board. I had no idea I had to worry about so many things! :)

I am a sort of overweight 60y/o that has been doing 1 or 2 HM a year for the past 6 years. Disney has always been my goal. So excited!

Nelle Belle:

I'm with you. I'm a sort of overweight 63 year old who just took up Half marathons a couple of years ago. (Although I have lost 35 pounds doing these things!). My first race was the inaugural princess. My daughter and i are perfect princesses, since we did the first one, the second and now the third race. Last year, I did 4 other half marathons besides the princess. My goal is to do 5 a year. I think that keeps me "honest" and in training most of the time. The princess one is by far my favorite. Although today, I just signed up for the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville and the Heart Half Marathon in Cincinnati. I think I am becoming an addict!! So, welcome to the princess club.princess:

Ugh, I've been putting off booking my room and car.....BIG MISTAKE!!!! I've been keeping an eye on the Radisson close to Downtown Disney and the price went up this weekend :sad1:. Do you think it will go back down on Monday? Does anyone know of a cheaper off-property that isn't a roach-motel?

Tomorrow is a short 6 miler. It was not long ago that 6 miles seemed impossible huh? Is it really just 6 weeks away? :yay:

Click at the Link on my signature and you can check which IHG hotels have good rates. The two I like the best so far...because there are too many properties to choose from are the Holiday Inn Express and Suites East Lake Buena Vista and Holiday Inn Downtown Disney. Perhaps one of those (they are both very close to Epcot) has a good deal for you with my friends and family rate. Good Luck!

Thank you!

You can go to the Disneyrunning page and print out your waiver. They e-mail you the link to the waiver not the actual waiver. Otherwise, they have computers and printers at the Expo to print them out at. So, don't worry about having one with you. You can take care of it there without any issues.
