Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I had subscribed to the old thread and just found this one (now 19 pages in... a little slow on the uptake ;)).

I'm super nervous- have done 7 miles so far. Tomorrow my goal is 8. I'm doing a version of the Hal Higdon but ramped up my miles a little more so I end with 12 instead of 10. Just mentally I need to know I did 12 before this thing.

My nervousness now has turned from running to my mom. She's going to be a spectator, and is 62 (turning 63 the day before the 5K :goodvibes) and God love her, is the most oblivious person I know. She can get lost in her own house. We've been to Disney almost 30 times but I'm afraid she's going to get lost on me or something! I'd love for her to see me when I race at the viewing areas (miles 4, 8 and 13) but I'm afraid it might be too complicated for her.

Does anyone know if getting around to the viewing areas is somewhat easy- or will it be too hard for her and maybe I should just tell her to wait at the end for me. Also, I need to be on the bus by 4am (staying at POR) but should she as well? Otherwise I'd be going it alone... which I'm terrified of doing!

Edited to add: I read about spectators being able to get text message updates of a runner's progress and that it was on the Princess website but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know how to do that?

UM NEVERMIND, I found it on the Princess Site LOL.
I can't for the life of me find the link for buying tickets online to the park with the discount code. Can someone please post the link....yeah I am spazzing out. :goodvibes THANKS!

Looking like the ice is FINALLY melting - I saw the UPS man on our street today for first time in a week, still no mail for us since last Saturday. Gonna get my run in this weekend wahoo!

Oh and Amy, I will go with you on the sparkle skirt trial run. From what I read, alot of people ditch the stuff within the first few miles...I think if you can do a 5 miler in your outfit you are fine....

oh and guess what peeps?? i just did 10 miles...in 19 degree weather!! AND IT SUCKED!!! lol! best part of it is that it's over. and i'm EXHAUSTED now. EXHAUSTED!!!

by the end of the run i was hobbling like a total weirdo. i was hurting all over. how will i do another 3.1 miles on top of that???

Got out for 8 miles a few days ago, but I was just hit pretty hard with a cold so I've been stuck inside. It gave my ankle a chance to recover before I get back other there. I'm hoping to be able to get back out early next week for a few runs before other plans keep me busy... At least the weather is nice out here in CA again.

You are a total rock star! Just remember it won't be that cold...I mean it could be cold, but shouldn't be in the teens. When I finished my run last weekend and it was wind chill of 13...I thought I was going to die and was sore for days...and that was ONLY 4.25 miles! You will do great come race day. its def warmer down there and remember its FLAT for the most part. You can always walk also....no shame in that. You will do great, no worries...just keep on keepin on.

thanks julie! it was difficult trying to run through the crap-tastically paved streets! it was like running through sand!

Corral question -
I'm going with someone who will be in a different corral than I am.
How long can we hang out before we have to be in our respective corrals?
The brochure says that we need to be in our corrals by 5AM.
Does that mean you have to be in your correct corral by 5AM?
Or can you move around until a certain time?

I'm in Atlanta too!! Northern Suburbs of Marietta here.
I"m watching everything and everyone and hoping that ice has melted enough for my long run tomorrow.

Just got in from a walk around the neighborhood just north of Charlotte...checking roads out for my Sunday 10 miler. Hopefully with warmer weather tomorrow all should be good for Sunday. Temp are to be in the upper 40's.

Great run! I can't do the runs outside in this cold weather ;)

I'm SO impressed you ran outside in this cold and with the streets like they are! I'm hiding on the TM now!

I got home from work early today; so I got ready for my run,and was excited to get a run in before it gets dark. But what am I doing? Sitting in my running clothes waiting for UPS grrr I wanta run!

I'm also planning on goinf to Old Navy for their sale to see if anything is cheap enough for throwaway clothing. I hope UPS comes soon.

I found great gloves at Harmon for $1...let us know what you find at Old Navy!

Dumbobuddy is the queen!!!

Am in Atlanta, too, and finally ventured out today. The main sidewalk in my n'hood is still a total sheet of ice, and didn't want to run in the bike lane in the road and risk a car slip-sliding into me! So I took one of the few clear stretches in the hood that I *think* is about .5 miles and I ran it back and forth six times!!!! Had to do something!!!! Felt good to get that done and it isn't at all cold right now - 41 with no wind chill. Hoping to get out for 5 tomorrow and maybe hit my 10 on Monday if I can get it in before the rain comes in.

Thanks, ladies, for all the great tips and encouragement! Was telling Julie that I haven't been to WDW in 3 years, and it's been 11 years since I've been there without kids and without being preggo! CANNOT WAIT!!!

Did anyone else notice that the start/finish area on the race program doesn't match the course on the website (and the link provided in the e-mail last night)? I would think the program is correct cause the marker for mile 1 and mile 2 seem extremely close together in the website version. I ran just over 5 miles today and I was checking to see where in the course I would have been to visualize.

Unfortunately the UPS man didn't arrive until 6 so no run... but I did get to Old Navy. I bought a sweater for 4.18 and some glow necklaces for .58. They had a lot of warm sweaters. I think I'll head to the thrift store for a warm blanket and I'll be complete for throw away clothes.

I'm going to try for an 11 mile run this weekend; I really need to stop skipping runs.

I did a short run in my sparkleskirt today at the gym. I figured I'm wearing my bright green WISH shirt so what the heck! :rotfl2: It was the sparkletech shorts/skirt (black diamond). They were very comfortable. :thumbsup2

Hello! My name is Jen. Ihaven't been around this thread much but will be there for Princess weekend.
To answer the corral question: they don't really care much when you get into the corral. You are welcome to hang out in your corral or any behind you for as long as you like. You can start where you like as well if you wanted to stay with your friend. If you really want to start in your proper corral I would recommend heading there at least 15-20 min prior to race time as the corrals can get really crowded and moving between them can be tougher than you would think.

Just checked the weather to see when the next round of snow is coming. Seems like we have it on an every other day basis. It sure is making training for long runs outdoors a lot more challenging. I don't mind the 4 or 5 miles on the indoor track, but more than that drives me crazy! Just going round and round and round! I think I'm starting to tilt when I walk! OH, well... winter can't go on forever! Happy training, ladies!

Meg
