Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

ugh, you guys i need some encouraging words. i planned on doing 10 miles today and i managed just under 7 miles. i just couldn't go any further. the temperature wasn't too bad at 35 degrees but it is SO windy out. i just checked and it's saying it's close to 40 mph! my hat kept flying off, i couldn't see in front of me with all the dirt and dust coming up and i was just not going anywhere.

i'm exhausted. that was so tough. i even had to walk three times and i still couldn't even get 7 miles in. i'm really disappointed. i've only run 10 miles now two different times and the last time was about 6 weeks ago.

i am afraid i won't be able to finish 13.1 miles now! i'm devastated :(

Don't worry, you will do great. It won't be windy at the race. :)
I ran yesterday in the wind! I went 3 miles. I did some uphills and now my thighs are a little sore. I will do some more uphills to get toned up. We can do it!! :) It will be so much fun. I am number 7609, hope I see you there!

For those of you who are worried because you didn't get in 13.1 mile training run....Don't panic!!! A number of half marathon training programs max you out at 10 miles including John Bingham/Jenny Hadfield's Marathoning for Mortals.

I have NEVER gone more than 10 miles for a half marathon training run/walk and have finished strong in all 10 halfs I have entered.

You'll do great. Don't worry! My friend who is an avid marathoner told me I was good to go after I'd done only 8! I managed to get close to 10 today. That last mile hurt bad. But I decided if I have to walk the last 3 miles in, it doesn't matter b/c that medal looks the same around my neck regardless of how long it took to get it there!!

I seem to remember hearing something about massages being available at the finish line. Does anyone have any info on that? Cost? Length of time, etc.?

I am a little worried, too. I've had my farthest by 8 miles, and the other day when I went to do my 10, the park I was running in closed 3 miles into my run.

Good question about the walking/running - I was planning to just stay on one side of the road.

BTW - my feet are hurting, too. I just noticed a plantar's wart this morning.

I do walk run. When i slow down to walk, i chsck behind me to make sure i am not in anyones way. I also am aware of the pace of who is in front of me so they don't stop and i plow into them.

At 5ks when there are sooo many teens running and stopping, i like to sort of bump into them when they stop and yell at them to be careful when they do that. I fully expect young girls in packs to stop suddenly. I have even mentioned it to race directors that it should be part of run instructios. I am mean, i know, but i bet those that i do that too, think twice.

Okay, Deep Cleansing Breaths! (Said in my calm yoga instructors voice)

1.) It will be a beautiful 50 something when we start on Sunday
2.) about the only time it is that windy in FL is in a hurricane.

So you will not be dealing with either of those conditions next week. How did you start out? Did you take the wind into account for your start and adjust or try to run just as hard against the wind as normal? Remember anything you run earns you a slower pace walking when you need to. PLUS you are in an earlier corral. Remember your 3:30 doesn't start until the last person crosses the start line. You got this!:flower3:

Don't fret. I think it is the warmer weather we share -- I ran 8 today and it was harder than the 13 i ran the last 2 weeks in colder temps. Remember-- the crowds, entertainment and supporting Princesses all will make a huge difference when the time comes.

BTW -- I think our bib #s are close. I'm 5315. You can look for me and
my run partner. my shirt will say princess Karen. I'm running out to Staples now to buy the iron on transfers to print on.

Good luck everyone. Safe travels and I hope to recognize some of you!

You'll have such an adrenaline rush on race morning, and that will help carry you through the hard miles. I was so scared to death that I wouldn't finish my first 1/2 marathon, I wouldn't even tell people I was running it. Even though the race was a smaller one, I was so into the race mindset that it was over before I knew it!

You are SO ready for the race. There will be NO winds which was the problem today, I am sure without them you would have finished strong.

I am disappointed I didn't get to do 10 miles more either so I know where you are coming from, but hey, you did all you could. You are strong and brave and its a fairly flat course and the temps will NOT be cold. And remember you CAN walk some esp at the end if you need to, no shame, just get that medal. You are ready! You will do great.

I'm in the same boat as some of you. My longest run was 8-9ish miles and since then I've only gone 6 at the longest. I'm hoping I'll just feel go and my history as an endurance athlete (distance swimmer for years and years and years) will kick in. Plus I'm getting a pre-race rub down from my physical therapist this week (and a post-race one as well when I get back).

For those of you worried, remember... you're going to have a blast of adrenaline at the race. You have your "training" modes and feelings and then "race" modes when you get there. Also, the race is going to probably be 80% mental and 20% physical...

1 week and 1 day... let's get excited:banana:!

Waaaaaah!!!!!!!!! Zpack still hasn't kicked in and only one more day of meds left. Still in bed with fever! Is this normal or should I be feeling better and strep free by now!?

I packed today, and managed to fit everything for 2 races and 2 nights at Disney in one carry on bag. I feel like I must be forgetting something obvious, but I've been over my packing list several times, and it's all there. I even have some room left for things I pick up at the expo.

Now this next week all I have to do is get in my last couple runs and try my hardest not to get sick. I really feel for all your girls that are fighting illnesses right now. I would be so upset! I'm sending lots of get well pixie dust your way!

i get strep every single year. EVERY SINGLE YEAR. as i've gotten older the strep has hit me harder and harder. the z-packs keep taking longer to kick in. don't push it these next few days. you will feel better. just rest rest rest and drink fluids.

hugs!! feel better!

Dont worry you are not alone and you keep a great pace anyway, so if you have to slow down, you will have more than enough time.

If I recall correctly I think massages are something along the lines of a dollar a minute.

I just got back from EPCOT for the fireworks and to get me a birthday button that I will wear for the race, since it's the day after. I'm even more excited for the race, the tents, bag drop off and finish line are all set up, just the banners are not there. Excited!

OMG, I am in full-blown panic mode.

Been training for 10 months, getting sooo excited for this, seeing as how it is my first race ever, only to realize that the room I booked for myself and my family is for Fri night, NOT Sat night. I tried to modify our reso, but of course Sat is no longer an option (this is at the Royal Plaza).

Does anyone know of any other reasonably-priced place really close-by that still has rooms available?

This is NOT how I envisioned my first post. :(

What your idea of 'reasonably-priced' I just recently booked a night at the all-sports for around $120 for Saturday.

I could do $120, but right now there are no value resort rooms left. I think the cheapest Disney resort room is $200-ish. I am checking travelocity, etc, also trying to get Royal Plaza to let me switch nights, but haven't received any positive reply yet.

Ugh, I am just sick to my stomach. I will definitely call Disney in the morning (or whenever they open) and see what they tell me. Maybe I will get lucky and they will have a last-minute cancellation.
